This fast and the mourning of Ashura because of the event of Karbala are two totally different things. Muslims used to fast even the incident of Karabala did not happen.

so you want us to cry beat ourselve then?

Yes from tragic events lessons can be learnt and should be learnt and yes again that different persons or people have different styles of mourning which may be public or in private.

But at least we should not condemn Shias for mourning and Sunnis may also mourn in whatever way they can but unfortunately because of sectarianism they don't do it because they don't do things which Shias do. The sectarian hatred has even entailed in ignoring the most tragic event of Islam by Sunnis.

Do whatever way you want to mourn as mourning is just expression of your feelings and emotions of grief and sorrow which may be by crying, beating(gently) or whatever natural way you express your sentiments of lamentation.

But fasting and distribution of food or drink I don't think is mourning or expression of sadness.

you are wrong, you dont have to do such a thing, just pray and fast, distribute food, that's all. you dont need to put yourself in sin, because beating, crying is sin anyways. i would never ever beat myself you can as you wish

unfortunately you are right in a sense that because of sectarian politics this tragedy has lost some significance in some quarters but all major sunni scholars have condemned the actions of yazeed and some even declared yazeed to be kafir. there is no doubt amongst mainstream sunnis that karabala was tragedy and yazeed was in the wrong. As long as shias don't go overboard with the whole self harm and blood everywhere thing, sunnis have no problem however they mourn.

Can for my knowledge you can prove that crying or even beating in mourning is a sin and prohibited by Quran?

And how praying, fasting and distribution of food is mourning.

When you lose something don't you feel sad and express this sadness by some natural way or you fast and distribute food?

Is the murder of the family of the Prophet including women and babies is not a colossal loss for all Muslims including Sunnis?

Yes along with expression of your emotions by mourning you must take some remedial measures. Here I agree that still today the Muslim world is ruled by Yazeeds of this time and except few countries in all other we have dictatorial regimes who have kept the Muslim world the most back ward part of the world.

The Noble Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said: 'The best fasts after the fasts of Ramadan are those of the month of Muharram."

However, the Holy Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast on the day of 'Ashura' even after the fasting in Ramadan was made obligatory. Abdullah ibn Musa, Radi-Allahu anhu, reports that the Holy Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, preferred the fast of 'Ashura' on the fasts of other days and preferred the fasts of Ramadhaan on the fast of 'Ashura'. (Bukhari and Muslim)

I dont like personal discussions in public forums but yes I wept listening to a speech by Khanam Tayebba Bukhari and a discussion in Khyber TV and talking to a Hazara Afghan friend.

I am trying to find out an Imam Bargah or Shia mosque to participate in the mourning processions . I don't know they will allow a Hanafi Sunni in their gatherings or not?

Yes but this fast has nothing to do with Karbala and the mourning. Because the Karbala event took place on October 10 ,680 after about many years of the death of the holy Prophet.

I have read this pseudo philosopher and poet of some quality Dr Iqbal and he has some appreciable achievements at his credit but I also hate him as he was a big misogynist who consider house or grave only two places for women and his ideas on Pan Islamism were all rubbish who always dreamt of Muslims from Neil to Kashghar which never happened. Yes the nationalist Iqbal was great.

This is a news for me that even he hated Shias as visible from his above verses.
Can you please quote the book from which these couplets are taken?
