the friends of Hazrat ali (RA) are ahle sunnah not shias.Originally posted by osho View PostThe people of Kofa betrayed Imam Hussain but they were not Shias at that time. They just did not support him but he was blatantly killed by the forces of Yazid and Yazid cant be a Shia at least if we use the term Shia for the friends of Hazrat Ali.
shias have also killed Sahaba.
your knowledge of islamic history is zero.
go back to supporting your genocide of pashtuns.

This topic has been discussed thousand and thousands of times... in other forums.Originally posted by graveyardofempires View Postguys watch for this osho as he is neither interested or muslim.
all he wants is waste your time and have fun doing it.
I have no issue with the topic if a muslim started it, however, when someone like osho opens it... then something is fishy..
Best thing would be, everyone just ignore him..

I declare that Allah is one and Muhammad is his last prophet. I do offer prayers, fast, will try to go to Hajj and pay Zakat if I can. I do believe in Islamic morality as don't tell lie, don't murder, don't abuse, don't be corrupt etc.Originally posted by graveyardofempires View Postguys watch for this osho as he is neither interested or muslim.

Still you don't believe that I am a Muslim?
Yes I consider the Shia mourning of the tragedy of Karbala to be justified and I think Sunni Muslims should also mourn this day by what ever standard of mourning.

Why we people are so much allergic to names. Why person is more important than what he says? Forget about Osho or whoever. Just analyze , criticize and comment on the ideas not on the person please. If Osho will say some thing good still you wont appreciate because it comes from Osho!Originally posted by Jamaludeen View PostThis topic has been discussed thousand and thousands of times... in other forums.

This is very interesting that he was martyred by the same day which was already a holy day amongst Muslims.
Along with fast Sunnis may also do some thing to commemorate the most trajic event of the history of Islam when the very dears of the family of their prophet were killed by dictators and brutal forces of that time.
so you're saying if this wasnt a holly month sunni wouldnt bother to celebrate his martyred?

Osho, what do you mean by observing it?
Yes, karbala was a tragedy and Yazeed was a fasiq(transgressor). Many sunnies fast on the day of ashura and before it. Sunnies don't beat themselves up as its neither sunnah nor recommended. Self harm is not encouraged in Islam and even many shia scholars have declared it to be harmful and should be avoided. I personally send lanat on imam hussain's killers but if others don't want to do it. its their choice.
Many sunnies in Afghanistan cook "sher berenge" (sweet rice) on this day and distribute it amongst the poor.
Aside from this many great prophets and other pious poeple were killed by people. There are conditions and recommendtions from the Quran and sunnah on how to mourn for the dead and hitting yourself and crying loudly after 1400 years is certainly not encouraged. I can undrestand why the shias observe it the way they do since they have totally different sets of ahadith which justify such actions.
Majority of Kufans who betrayed were shia (supporters of Ali (ra)), so yes in a sense shias did betray their own imam. They invited him with letters that they would support him against yazeed but when the time came they acted like cowards and left him alone in the battlefield.Last edited by badmash_khel; 12-04-2011, 03:47 PM.

It was said that Sunnis only fast on this day and I tried to clarify that fasting was there before the event of Karbala.Originally posted by Naatki View Postso you're saying if this wasnt a holly month sunni wouldnt bother to celebrate his martyred?
Now some friends say that they distribute sweets. I dont know how distribution of food and fasting can be mourning. In Quran I don't see any specific method recommended for mourning. Hadiths are always questionable whether strong or weak according to different scholars.
Mourning is expression of sorrow, grief and lamentation which can be in the shape of crying, just sitting in silence with sad look or mild gestures by hands or body language. It cant be distribution or eating of some food or fasting.Yes severe beating or injuring oneself can be injurious and exaggerated form of mourning.
I find it very strange that this kind of mourning is absent in Sunnis for whom the family of the Prophet is the same as for Shias.

We don't mourn at shaheeds. We consider them as alive. So stop now and close the thread.Originally posted by osho View PostIt was said that Sunnis only fast on this day and I tried to clarify that fasting was there before the event of Karbala.

we fast and distribute food or drink because during the Battle of Karbala, they did not have food or drink they were hungry, therefore we fast, to feel how they felt, and distribute food and drink, because they were hungry

Some say we mourn by fasting and distribution of sweets and some say we don't mourn at all because they were shaheeds or martyrs.Originally posted by emkhan View PostWe don't mourn at shaheeds. We consider them as alive. So stop now and close the thread.
This is really a very absurd logic that they were martyrs so we dont consider it a tragedy and consequently don't mourn it. Look at all the well known history books on Islam and they consider the tragedy of Karbala as the worst ever tragedy of the history of Islam because from there the roots of the dictators became strong and Muslims never saw true democracy till this day.
This was not just the matter of the death of one Imam Hussain but the murders of children women even babies by those cruel inhuman forces. This is really a shocking incident and its remembrnace by mourning is all logical, human and normal. You cant ignore it by just calling them martyrs.Last edited by Badlun; 12-04-2011, 04:35 PM.

Again please note it that the fast dates back to the era of the Prophet or even to the time of Hazrat Musa(Moses). This fast is not at all for the martyrs of Karbala. This fast and the mourning of Ashura because of the event of Karbala are two totally different things. Muslims used to fast even the incident of Karabala did not happen.Originally posted by Naatki View Postwe fast and distribute food or drink because during the Battle of Karbala, they did not have food or drink they were hungry, therefore we fast, to feel how they felt, and distribute food and drink, because they were hungry

Distribution of sweets doesn't mean celebrations and for the record its not sweet candy and birthday cakes, just sweet rice. Karbala was indeed a tragedy but it doesn't mean tragic event can't be used to learn a good lesson from. We he said we don't mourn, he meant public show of mourning on a large scale like shias do. For us the mourning is much more personal. Its just different tradition, nothing wrong with mourning publicly or privately. to each their own.
