I can also see why you would have made an error in the transliteration of for لوړ example - in Urdu it might well read lor (if you accepted a generalised pronunciation ofړ asر /r/ and read و as a vowel sound /o/ as opposed to a consonant + vowel sound /wa/ as in this example.

My understanding was that most Pashtoons in India had all but lost Pashto and were mostly Hindi/Englishfied. Do you meet with other Pashto speakers or visit Swat/Peshawar etc?
i am trying to fix my grammar here Tor khan.....
and the part of لوړ when u mentioned i completely understand what u said here... i am aware of all the alphabets in pashtu and ړ as in

    سړى

    and not سری
but the problem that i feel lies here in when we say لوړ as Feroza Banu corrected its lwarr not lorh... the same thing as i feel tht کول is pronounced as kawal and also kol..... this also what you mentioned is absolutely correct........so there's bound to be confusion whether lwarr or lor.... and i want people here to correct me.... and people just judging me here rather than taking me as a students they just want to mark me on what i can do and what i cant.....i am sorry if i sound rude ....
and we i would say as in in india if i write سړى i would write as sadhay not sarhay cause if i write sarhay it would be سریin pashtu which is wrong ..... as in urdu when i like ladka (boy) you would write larka am i right?
so i will learn to write as people understand here....

and its a rare case that i meet pashtuns here....... so i haven't heard people talking pashtu and thats the reason why i am here otherwise i would have learned from somebody at my place and would have not joined this forum....

It's confusing, but I guess it comes with seeing words in context. You'll now there are many "tricks" that we learn as readers - for example, you don't read every letter, but you see the shape of the word. In this example, I bet you CAN read the sentence:

Aocdcrnig to rseecrah at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mttaer in waht oderr the lterets in a wrod are, the olny irpoamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rhgit pclae.

It's a basic example of how we use lots of prediction in our reading and we pick up reading/writing conventions quite easily ... in the word "garage" both Gs make a different sound and in the word "hour" - the H sound is absent, the ou is /ow/ and depending on your accent the /r/ is either sounded or not as /r/ or /a/.

Surprisingly though, even in English with its odd words like "knight" and "neighbour", there are a surprising number of conventions that don't change and ultimately the rules are fairly regular (e.g. k at the beginning of a word is followed by n - kn), no words in English end with Q for example and there a silent rule with regards to gh in the middle of the word.

Back to Pashto of course! - لوړ is lwar when you see it and کول is kawal in most dialects of Pashto, though you may also hear kol.

Don't be put off by the marking Spogmai ... I respect your efforts and think they are great ... certainly you show lots of enthusiasm. I already began with an apology in my posting because in a class situation, I would not focus on so many corrections, but just work on one or two points of grammar or pronuciation. The marking example, thus, was unfortunately not the best way I would do correction.

                        Har kala, Har wakht.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
