this thread is complementary to all the other courses going on for learning pashto.......
here i am emphasizing on vocabulary.....
will be posting 5 words everyday with their meanings and will try to make sentences on them..........
i will be posting words in English alphabetical order....
i request all my friends to visit this thread when they have time and please correct me if i make mistakes....
this way i am trying to learn by myself.....
hope this will be helpful to other learners toooooo...
Manana........

1) Aback------Shaata/Bearta------ بيرته ، شاته
Za har wraz dre baje korta berta razam.....
i come back home everyday at 3 o’clock

2) Above----Porta/Paas/Lorh------------- پورته, پاس, لوړ
Aasmaan zamong porta dey…
the sky is above us….

3) Annoy (verb)----Zorowal--------------- ځورول
Zama mor ma sara har wakht zorowali da …….
my mom is always annoyed with me

4) Annually---Har Kaal/Pa Kaal---------- هر كال، په كال
Mong har kal zamong da neeka korta zoo….
Every year we go to our grandfather’s house..

5) Another----Yaw Bal/Bal/Bal Sok---------------- يو بل، بل، بل څوك
Pashtu sara Mata yaw bal jaba hum zda kom ghwarham..
Along with Pashtu I want to learn one another language too…

Here are the corrections

3) Annoy (Verb)----Zorowal-------ځورول
Zama mor ma har wakht Zorawee.
my mom is always annoyed with me.

5) Another-------yaw Bal/Bal/bal Sok------------يوبل، بل، بل څوک
Za Pashto sara yawa Bala jaba hum zda kawal Ghwaram.
in the above sentence it will be "Yawa Bala" not yaw bal, as Jaba is feminine word..so "yaw Bal" in a sentence will be:
Za da "Pashtun Forum" na ilawa "yaw Bal" forum sara hum balad yam.
ya
Za da "osho" na ilawa "yow Bal" ustad "Tor Khan" hum laram.

oh wow... soooo many mistakes... especially in spogmai's post. are you trying to teach others or are you trying to improve your own pashto? please don't take any offense but you shouldn't teach if you don't know something. i mean no harm... i seriously wanna say this to anyone who is trying to teach pashto here.

1st mistake: the way you have written words in english is not the way the words are pronounced... the red part is wrong... it is pronounced (lwarrrr) not Lorh , Porta/Paas/Lorh------------- پورته, پاس, لوړ

and the red sentences are completely wrong.

you can't really translate this literally "my mom is always annoyed with me"

you can translate it as i always annoy my mom... and it would be...

za khpal mor har wakht zawrawam. or za har wakht khpal mor zawrawam.

Thanks but i am learning here am teaching at all. That too with the help of people here.. And i have also invited people to correct me as these are not perfect sentences. Its a learner's thread and not a teacher's thread. Inspite of your words i am all the more encouraged to post more here, Make mistakes, Get them corrected by people who are here to help me and learn from them. And also the meanings in english are from a dictionary i am using. If you have noticed nobody writes perfectly in pashtu in using english text. Hence its also written in pashtu text. Thanks.

Also, i read in a pashtu teaching text book that the sequence of subject, verb and object, etc that fall in a pashtu sentence is similar to that in urdu... i try to make it that way....
but i was also told by a friend that its not always the same... they are differnt in some cases...

osho, tor khan, Yousafzai, Karachipashtun, Feroza Banu and other experts in pashtu , whoever has time, are requested to correct the above sentences............

Spogmai - make I make a few corrections? From a learner psychology point of view, it's not correct to focus on so many areas, so I apologise but whilst you make sense, the grammar needs a slight fix.

(a) Pashtu (1) sara Mata (b) yaw bal jaba hum (2) zda kom ghwarham..

1. sara zu
2. zda kawal ghwaram/zda kawom...

(a) Missing Da e.g. Da Pukhto sara zu

(b) To my ears the gender for jaba (language) also sounds wrong ... yowa bala jaba sounds better ..

I commend your efforts Spogmai - is there an active need to speak Pashto in Mumbai? That would help iron out many of the mistakes here.

I can also see why you would have made an error in the transliteration of for لوړ example - in Urdu it might well read lor (if you accepted a generalised pronunciation ofړ asر /r/ and read و as a vowel sound /o/ as opposed to a consonant + vowel sound /wa/ as in this example.

My understanding was that most Pashtoons in India had all but lost Pashto and were mostly Hindi/Englishfied. Do you meet with other Pashto speakers or visit Swat/Peshawar etc?
