It's good to have non-Pashtuns here so they can share their perspectives with us Pashtuns.Originally posted by Credere View Postthere are other ethnicities within NWFP that are not pashtun, in order to be fair to all the name will have two parts.
The Pashtun perspective on this issue is that the will of the minority (10-15%) should not be imposed on the majority (77-85%). It's undemocratic.
Lastly, the PML (N) is not against the name Pashtunkhwa. It believes that it'll lose out on the Hazara vote and that's the only confirmed area for the Nawaz League outside Punjab. If it wants to create a federal government in the next elections, it'd need this area. Moreover, some say the PML (N) doesn't want to see not only the signing of the NFC Award but also the Constitutional Reforms Package under the PPP government... Yesterday's DAWN had a good editorial on this as well as some very insightful letters.
Good post.Originally posted by jodigul View Post^There are also other ethnicities in punjab, sindh and balochistan. in balochistan, the pashtuns make up half of the total population of province, it deserves renaming also.
Why minorities are highlited only in case of NWFP?"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

hazaara is suggestion among many others, other ethnicities in other provinces have no problem with their respective province's names..its only NWFP that there is such a strong issue of ethnicities and what not..Thats because the people from these particular areas have been living in clans and tribes and families so they tend to feel more strongly about their own traditions and everything so they are more sensitive towards these issues and therefore it requires to be dealt with more carefully.Originally posted by jodigul View PostBetween pakhtunistan-hazara will be a stupid name, because beside hazara people there are other minorities also like derawals (people of di khan), kohistanis and chitralis.
yes i read the article and i was making that point earlier on here when everybody started cursing the punjabis that its basic politics nothing more, ANP won the election just on this agenda.. The pakistanis from all provinces are in favour of this renaming, however it wont just be pakhtoonkhwa because that would cause unrest among other ethnicities and possible backlash. Therefore it has to be pakhtoonkhwa 'something'Originally posted by Levanaye Zalmaye View PostIt's good to have non-Pashtuns here so they can share their perspectives with us Pashtuns.

Why and where will it create backlash? 45 % of balochistan is pashtun/afghan. Quetta is not even a baloch city, but where was this ethnic sensibilities then? Hazara is not even an ethnicity, a good half if not more are pashtuns in that area, so this is just political mumbo jumbo by Pakistan establishment, pml (n). It reminds of the nonsense of muslim league when they considered calling Pashtunistan an unislamic thing, what a joke.
If this type of standard is imposed on one portion of pashtun land, then it should be put forward on the other provinces, but I can guarantee you they will forget all this when it comes to their areas.

Its Pakistans business, we take care of our own and dont believe in squashing the voice of our minorities maybe if you guys got out of this mindset you might actually be able to unite against a common threat. Pakistani pashtuns have no problems with having hazaara or abaseen in the name and thats all that matters. As to your other point, we in Pakistan are not ethnically divided, Karachi has the largest pashtun population in the world do u see it being renamed to peshawar do you see people in quetta or balochistan making a fuss ?. The reason hazaara or other names are to be included is because these minority ethnicities will feel neglected and Pakistan's GoP doesnt want that.
If we went by your logic of ethnic superiority and dominance, Pakistan would be in no better shape than AfghanistanIt's enough that I know, Our time had a home, In your heart..Was a place..But the glass always breaks..

Buddy Karachi has many ethnic conflicts...what rock have you lived under? Second of all I am from Shangla, so kindly do not lecture me about Pashtunkhwa. As I am a Pashtun from that area, it is my business. Forget quashing the voice of minorities (which it has btw, what do you think is happening to Baloch?), they didn't even let the Bengalis live in dignity.
And Pashtuns there do have an issue with it? Do you think we Pashtuns enjoy this division? Pakistan, like its previous master/father, Britain, conitnued the policy of keeping the Pashtuns divided...that is why Pashtuns are divided into balochistan, FATA, and NWFP.
No the reason is that Pakistan establishment has a piss poor record of treating the minorities. The fact of the matter is that hazara is not a minority, it is a region. Talk about lost lolzz
