Wasn't just the Sikhs who hated him, Muslims didn't like the Durranis either. Punjab was in chaos. India as a whole was in chaos because the Mughals couldn't control it, and to top it off they were going around butchering Sikhs in Punjab, hence giving the Sikhs reasons to rebel, hence Guru Arjun Dev became the first Guru to say violence is justified as long as it's self-defense, hence the Misls were created which meant Punjab was constantly in a state of war. KeeneDuring the 17th century, as Mughal power dwindled, Lahore was often invaded, and government authority was lacking. The great Punjabi poet Baba Waris Shah said of the situation, "khada peeta wahy da, baqi Ahmad Shahy da" — "we have nothing with us except what we eat and wear, all other things are for Ahmad Shah". Ahmad Shah Durrani captured remnants of the Mughal Empire and had consolidated control over the Punjab and Kashmir regions by 1761.

Alright d00d, but how nice were all the other rulers? There's a thread on this site showing how disrespectful and disparaging Rancid Singh was to Punjabi Muslims. If ASD was bad, Rancid must've been deplorable.Originally posted by Porus View PostWasn't just the Sikhs who hated him, Muslims didn't like the Durranis either. Not too many bright sparks in Punjab's history, most notable one I can think of is Mughal reverence of Lahore.Last edited by Elite Pakhtun; 12-03-2016, 01:22 AM.

All other evidence to the contrary suggests that Ranjit was far better than the Abdalis and the Moghuls. Creating a big mosque is not that big a deal. Punjab in the Maharaja's rule had a literacy rate of 80% or something like that. People were literate in Punjabi (their mother language) and Persian (borrowed court language from Moghuls). So yeah, Ranjit surpasses Derpani by miles in my view. Durrani didn't even educate his own people, he was a tribal warlord.Originally posted by Elite Pakhtun View PostAlright d00d, but how nice were all the other rulers? Plenty of bright sparks. Leaders aren't the only example, Punjab has a variety of poetry and literature that dates back to the 11th Century, far older than Urdu or even if you can find Pashto poetry that dates before Baba Farid's time, I'd be interested to know. We are rich in culture, dance, literature, etc.

All Indic badgering aside; I actually agree with you; Pashtuns are not without fault when it comes to the chaos that ensued in South Asia, we're sadly very egotistic people who delude ourselves into thinking everything we did and do is noble. But Abdali was an opportunistic warlord and brigand.
In a sense I can totally understand why Punjab might be subconsciously getting their revenge on Pashtuns after the atrocities that were committed by Abdali.
But Abdali didn't just run amok in South Asia; he with Nadir Qoli's help and support drove many Pashtun tribes from Kandahar into places like Ghazni and Logar. My family are descendants of people who were driven from Kandahar. While we're over it, it just shows this idea of National pride among Afghans and referring to him as the "Baba" of our country is largely narrative, just like Natiionalism is largely Narrative in Pakistan.
Nonetheless because we're arrogant people, it is egregious to our repute how people were once subjugated and conquered now have the upper hand over us in some sense.

Wrong, sikhs already got their revenge by driving afghanis away from punjab and conquering Afghanistan in 18th century. No atrocities being committed by punjab against afghani pashtuns. Some mistake Pakistan help to Afghan pashtuns against ANA as conspiracy, usually people on payroll of USA.Originally posted by Iblis_Efreetzai View Post

We are not living in 18th century anymore. Abdali is respected as muslim leader in Pakistan, that Waris quote I've read first time on internet. You should get over yourself and look at Abdali from neutral pov instead of what he might have done to your unknown tribe.Last edited by dawn; 12-03-2016, 07:33 PM.

Sikhs did not conquer Afghanistan in the 18th century. They did manage to drive Pashtuns out of the Punjab as Ahmad Shah Abdali wasn't able to continue fighting due to internal problems. They managed to take Peshawar and surrounding towns in the settled part of what is now KPK which they held with a lot of difficulty constantly facing rebellion and disobedience and non payment of taxes. Ruling a few cities is not the same as conquering a country. Your information is wrong.

Oh bullcrap; the inferiority issues of you Paki-Nationalist punjabi types reek of hidden resentment. You're not living in the 18th century but you try to hijack other people's history as your own? LOL Riiiiiight.
LOL oin the Payroll of USA; like Pakistan hasn't been on US Payroll for decades. lol
