I think UK is the best country especially for Muslim immigrants. You will find Muslims culture there. hethcare is not good as it is in France but education is better. Inflation is lower than the other european countries.

Security wise its too good. UK's administration system is too fast and advance. Administration and govt system in France sucks. Its like France is still living in stone age. They follow and copy everything from UK but still far behind in Administration.
if you go to their offices you will find 50 and 60 years old ladies sitting there doing job do not want to leave and their youngsters are living on social benefits. I wonder where these french people living....

I think its what people make of it. I went to public schooling K-12 and felt very ready.... if you get into AP classes in high school you can probably still compete aggressively with colleagues. Perhaps this fails in inner cities - but the burbs usually have parents that are trying to implement oversight.

but if you consider the AVERAGE immigrant, lets say an Afghan/Muslim immigrant, I still think Canada is a better option overall

Culturally, immigrants retain their culture better in Canadian society than an American one. We are a mosiac whereas America is a melting pot
There are more Afghans in the USA than there are in Canada. In NYC, we have about 5 Afghan dominated mosques, can you name any Canadian city with similar statistics? Not to mention the handful of new Mosques that are being constructed. So it's absolutely ridiculous, IMHO, to claim Canada will offer better integration. Heck, often times if you walk in some streets of Kalacha(an Afghan dominated neighborhood in Flushing) you would swear you are walking in Pashtunistan. You see people walking around in Kamiz/Partok running for their prayer.

Our economy is in better standing and we have been effected less by the recession
Americans make more money than Canadians, Americans have better jobs than Canadian, Americans are likely to be treated far better than Canadians in the workplace, America has more companies, America has more innovation, more growth, more research, far advanced in science, and just about any field you can think of; not to mention offers more competition.

Politically, American politics is an absolute joke.
          Unrelated.
Its not a coincidence, that the Economist List of Most Liveable Cities had 3 Canadian cities in the top 5, and not a single American city in sight

          Andewala, are you kidding yourself?

Ask yourself honestly, the threadstart is a techie guy, with due honesty, would you recommend him a state like Canada? Be honest here. New York alone is starting to have a better tech industry than Canada, and you and I both know that comparing Canada to California is an insult to humanity(considering how advanced California is)so how dare can one make a comparison between a state like Canada vs 50 states, the USA.

Be logical here. He is a techie, and there are some facts you can not deny. The USA has better, more affordable education. The USA has better, more advanced hospitals and doctors. The USA has better, more employers. The USA has better, higher pay. The USA has better, quality of living depending on which state you are in. The USA has also has a better quality of living than Canada, granted the USA is only ahead by a small margin, there are states bringing down it's overall quality. No Canadian province can offer a quality of life like Massachusetts, or Connecticut. Where not only do you make a lot of money, have Muslims, but you have the best hospitals and the world's best schools.

These are facts, and not my opinion. Like I said, this argument that American schools are expensive is childish and ignorant at best. American elite institutions, are known as being incredibly generous to it's students. Given that the OP is a techie, he should know that a PUBLIC school, UIUC has a better CS program than any Canadian, or European school. UIUC again, is public.

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

What is this perception that somehow Canada is more fair to outsiders or non whites or non christians than America?

Canada has stricter free speech laws that are abused to silence critics

Canada in recent decades has become more subservient to the American government's request to turn over war objecters from the US military versus the Vietnam era
Canada is involved in the same UN driven wars world round

Canada's Harper government was no better than the Bush government when it came to hyper interventionalist rhetoric

It's just as silly, and naive as many of the claims, most notably that American elite institutions refuse to help their students. CUNY, SUNY schools, that have elite flag ships like Stony Brook, Binghamton, Baruch, City College PAY their students(if the average income is less than 60-70K)to attend school. Does Canada have a similar program? Now if we talk about the elite institutions, HYPSM and the gang; What people don't realize is that a school like Yale, which IMO is light years ahead of any Canadian school, has an average debt at graduation of of roughly $9,254. So while a Canadian is receiving a subpar, perhaps rag-tag Engineering education, for ~40K, a HYPSM student is paying far less, and receiving an education of unparalleled levels. Most students at the top 20 don't pay a dime when based on merit. Don't get me wrong, Canada has some schools that are decent, but no where are they as affordable, or as good as American. Given the bang for the buck, one must be smoking dope to choose Canada.

Don't get me started on health care, hospitals, doctors, and a far more pleasant culture. I think New York City is the optimal destination for any immigrant, especially when Afghan. Afghans own nearly 800 restaurants in the TRI-STATE area, that is employment for the uneducated Afghan. Now for the educated techie Afghan, NYC and Boston are rivals and both are beefing up the tech sector. Cornell is building a new school near Manhattan, for that very purpose; it's being touted as Cornell Tech.

Last year, the United States hosted over 28,000 international students from Canada. In fact, among all sending countries, Canada was ranked #4 worldwide as having the highest amount of international students in the United States.
I remember when I was in Toronto, everybody that I met continuously asked me what the process is for a Canadian to attend Law school, Med School, Engineering school in the USA, the reverse is not true. I highly doubt a Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, along with hundreds of others, and their students, are having wet dreams about McMaster, and their gang.

Also, because Canada is always hiding behind the USA's back, while partaking in the same exact activities as the big brother; at I suppose the USA's demand(Canada doesn't have a choice but to obey), it does not receive the same criticism as the USA in the limelight by the international community hence the squeeky clean, yet false image; With the aforementioned said, most folks prefer it. It does have several anomalies as you mentioned such as stricter free speech requirements, higher taxation, etc.

There are more Afghans in Toronto than anywhere in the States except the Bay Area

Overall culturally, immigrants retain their culture better in Canada then they do in the states

And again almost every list in any year that highlights the most liveable cities in the world lists 2-3 canadian cities before a single American city

Im not saying every immigrant stands to be better off in Canada, it depends entirely on social-professional-economic class and no doubt if you are educated and/or have money, america is a better place. For the avg afghan/muslim immigrant however? Who doesnt usually fare too highly on these classifications? Canada is a better destination.

And i must include my disclaimer: ive been to New York and absolutely loved it, no where else in the world did i feel more at home besides my actual homes. But why not skip the crime, annoying accents and $3000 rents and come to a better scaled down version of it?

When I went to New York 2 months ago, my uncle was telling us how house are to expensive in NYC. He showed me and old house on our way to my aunts house that cost 300,000 (which is what a new house costs in Canada) he was amazed and fed up at that same time. And know he's deciding to move to California but the houses also cost a lot there. But yeah if you want to raise a good family with an affordable place to live and with a steady income, Canada would be the best choice.

I have seen AP tests from the year I graduated in early 2000 all the way back to the 60s, and every year going back the exams became more difficult, to the point where even our teacher couldn't solve some of the questions in the earliest ones.

My friend who failed (along with half of our class) the first time he took the AP Chemistry exam, retook it the next year and found it so easy that our entire class from the previous year would have passed had we taken the recent test. Other exams incl SATs are rewritten to make them simpler, the classes made easier too.

My point is that private school, or home schooling supplemented by tutors can give kids a better education than our current system, where they will outclass their peers academically, with the added benefit of keeping them away from the poisonous environs of public schools. I went to school in the suburbs where several kids started having sex in 5th grade, smoking cigarettes in 4th grade and marijuana soon after. Public schools will indoctrinate your girls with feminism, your boys will embrace disrespect and laziness. I went to school with Muslim kids and they too became corrupted...
