I am new forum member, Nima Khan Abdali.

I want to note first that studies undergone on determining the average height of males in a locale always take males 21 years old or older, since a man completes his physical growth at 21 years old.

Average height of Pashtun men 21 years old or older has been found to be 179 cm (5'10.5"), which makes Pashtun men the tallest in entire South Asia and Central Asia.

There are 4500 ethnicities to-day. Among them all, Pashtuns are the 12th tallest.

Also, earlier this post, I saw somebody making a list like this "Iran 5'7", India 5'3" " etc.. You cannot take an average of people from a whole country or locale, even if you did, it would not be scientific. You can take average from ethnicity or a group of ethnicities, living anywhere on the earth, in collective or in retail. First of all, I need to note that the average height of all men living in Iran (average height of Iranian men) who are 21 years old or older is 174.24 cm (5'8.6"). But in Iran lots of ethnicities live. The peoples which are native to Persia from antiquity, i.e., Southwestern Iranids (Persians, Lurs, Bakhtiaris, Shirazis, etc.), in particular, have their males 21 years old or older measured to be on average 181.9 cm (5'11.6"). This makes Persians 6th tallest ethnicity among the overall 4500 ethnicities in the world.

Also, I have to note, collectively taken, people of Iranid blood (Persian, Pashto, Scythian, Sarmatian, Pamiri, Balochi, Nuristani, etc.) are the second tallest group of people. This is to say, among all of the groups in the world, Iranid group has the second tallest men, with 179,3 cm (5'10.6"), after North Germanid group.
Nima, where the data about Pashtuns come from? I don't say they are wrong but somehow I think that taking into account current situation in Afghanistan (and geography) it's rather impossible to collect a representative sample which could be used for statistical analysis.
On the other hand I know that CSA conducted census and other surveys.

Dear sister, a company, Stormfront, which I am a member of, and whose members are quite knowledgeable in Physical Anhtropology, unofficially, but quite scientifically, makes this kind of surveys every year, and among the entire world population, to be aware of recent comparative statistics. This data is unaccessible to those who are not a 3+ years members of the company. That is how I can get this information and I have permission to publish a certain piece of it.

Only 22% of Pashtuns live in Afghanistan; that is to say, in order to measure the heights of Pashtun men, they do research on Pashtun men not only in Afghanistan, but in every single locale in which Pashtuns live. Also, even if the population of Afghanistan encounters war and poverty over 30 years now, the genetics plays a 70% role in physical attribute of a person. It means that nutrition plays only a 30% role, and the absence of fine nutrition cannot diminish the average height of the people in Afghanistan only in a 30 year period, which is roughly only one generation.

I hope that this was enough of information.

Ok. Don't take me wrong. I spent over 10 years working in epidemiology & statistics so in my opinion methodology determines quality of data. If I know nothing about methodology I can't trust the data. They can provide me with some knowledge but I will never use them as strictly scientific.

          1. Detect the locations.
          2. Record the relevant population of each location.
          3. In 10 000 samples, make sections of each locale proportional to the section of its relevant population to the whole, to be measured.
          4. Measure them.
          5. Find the average, and the deviation.
          6. If the deviation is 22 cm or more, quality is the best.
          7. If the deviation is less than 22 cm, take the survey again.

This is the algorithm of the methodology. Let me see what you have to say after that.

Im interested in the "detect location" and "relevant population for each location". Any sampling frame and methods of selection?
Then - proces of measuring. Some scientists prefer so called Frankfurt plan, some - other methods. How many times measurements were taken, methods of measurement/adjusting if participant has visible spine problems or lack of lower limbs.
Another issue - who carries out the interviews and measurements? Trained locals or Americans fluent in Pashto etc... You know well that all this belongs to the methodology and as potential confounding factors should be well described.

Simply I am interested how such complicated study was conducted in Afghanistan.

Were Pashtuns from Pakistan also included?

For instance, we know there are 24 millions 21+ Pashtun men in the world. And we want exactly 10 thousand representees. We look at Kandahar province (for example) and we see 450 thousands 21+ Pashtun men living there and so we take (450 000/24 000 000) * 10 000 = 188 Pashtun men (21+) from Kandahar province. We do it for every locale: for Peshawar, Quetta, Kabul, Narnanghar, Paktika, Sargodha, Swat, UAE, Khorasan - wherever in the world Pashtuns live.

This is done not only for Pashtuns, but also for every single ehtnicities - 4500 ethnicities, and every year. Also, every year it takes 2 months to conduct this survey, so this is not a so much complicated task.

Stormfront Physical Anhropological Facts team has at least member in every province of the world (with over 50 thousand people), knowing the local language and having communicational skills. The total number of the team is 40 thousands and they are volunteeries, without getting paid. I am one of them and I do it for Kent region, England. Every year, I do it for 13 ethicities living in Kent and send the data to the center (as every other team member), and they automatically debug the figures.

Stormfront is a white nationalist and supremacist[1] neo-Nazi[2] Internet forum that was the Internet's first major hate site.[3]

Stormfront began as an online bulletin board system in the early 1990s before being established as a website in 1995 by former Ku Klux Klan leader and white nationalist activist Don Black. It received national attention in the United States in 2000 after being featured as the subject of a documentary, Hate.com. Stormfront has been the subject of controversy after being removed from French and German Google indexes, for targeting an online FOX News poll on racial segregation, and for having political candidates as members. Its prominence has grown since the 1990s, attracting attention from watchdog organizations that oppose racism and antisemitism.

The website is structured as a theme-based discussion forum with numerous boards for topics including ideology, science, revisionism, homeschooling, and self defense. Stormfront also hosts news stories, a merchandise store, content aimed at children, and extensive links to racist organizations. The site has a logo featuring the Celtic cross common to neo-nazi iconography surrounded by the motto "White Pride World Wide".

I was talking about average and I was talking about men.

But I have to say that you are 3-4 inches taller than average Pashtun women (this one is not scientific, only my guess), which is normal, not quite tall.

OK here is anecdotal stuff. statistics on pashtun men's height is going to be hard to find. so anecdotal is what is at hand.

in the queue at kabul airport, almost 50+/-10 afghan men, i observed
quarter to be around or less than 5'7
rest looked like between 5'8 and 6'0.
                        eighth between 6'0 and 6'4

in the departure lounge at Mazar airport, I observed:
                        a tractor
                        few fire-fighting truck
                        and passenger
again, just looking at the afghan men, about 80
                        again quarter looked around 5,8
                        less than quarter around 6,0 +/- 2"
                        rest around 5,10

through out my trip from kabul to mazar I saw perhaps 50 men who were patently taller than 6,0 out of perhaps 500.

                        Now, controversial stuff:
Kabul and north, parwan to balkh has , my guess, lesser proportions of pashtun over the region

tajiks in my observations are shorter than pashtuns. I have heard of many giants that live from helmand upto nangarhar, I wasn't there.

A panjshiri taxi driver assumed that I was nuristani, because of my height (he looked about 5'8 compared to me at 6') . . . .

so we need better statistics: large samples, rigorous method, and a clearly focused study.

                            1) height thing: when we come across a Pashtun that's 5'8 he's considered short, a Pashtun that's 6"1 or 6"2 people say he's tall, so I'd say 5"11 to 6" is the average.

Now from my analysis in the west the Pashtun immigrants that come over tend to be short with some exceptions of giants in the back of a butcher shop or fast food outlet, the ones I know on average (which are born in the west) generally tower over the immigrant ones (lifestyle/nutrition maybe?) even the teenagers at 16ish are tall 5'11 to 6' and stil growing.. I know this because iv worked an lived in Birmingham, there's immature gangs of Pashtun youths that hangaround..i used to do some boxing training with them, anyway they were a mixture of khatakyaan, kohatyaan, 1 or 2 swatis, I remember 2 brothers being from sawabi, 1 or 2 from Peshawar and a few from Kunar or sunward in afg were the Pashto was the 'khaa' dialect..all in all they were aged from 16 to about 19 and numbered around 10-15 of them the shortest was about 5'7 but around 80% were above 5'9 and at least 5 of them were 6ft or touching 6ft.. I guess the 6ft'ers may not grow much taller but as a whole I think this backs up my average of 5'11 to 6ft for a Pashtun.

                            2) the aryan thing.. I think some serious misunderstanding has taken place in regards to both the meaning of the word 'aryan' aswel as historical legacies of Pashtuns and their relatives to other peoples.
