          • Yusufzais are not swatis.

            PHP Code:
            yousufzai,esupzau
They are the predominant population in the districts of Dir
, Swat, Mardan, Malakand, Swabi, Buner, Shangla and in Mansehra and Battagram, they are known as Sawati. Other Yusufzai colonies can be found in the inner city of Sialkot and Lahore
SALAM just a correction the yusufzai originated from kandahar and conquered the swat valley of the swatis, who were pushed down to the south to areas such as mansehra and battagram. Those who call them selfs swatis are not yusufzais they are Dilazaks and are known as swatis today. they even usually keep their second name as swati but the people of swat are yusufzai and never refer themselves as swati. swatis are the original people of swat whilst the yusufzais are conquerors of the swat valley and now settled over there.

The yusufzai do not exist in mansera, battagram or even dir, mardan.
The yusufzais are mainly located in the swat valley.

Yousafzai are the majority in upper Dir I believe, and in Mardan as well. Thor ghar is Yousafzai as well.

Salam. every tribe has expanded over the years and spread into other areas. northern Dir has largely settled yusufzai's but south Dir has very few yusufzai and the south has a greater population than the north and therefore the majority are not yusufzai. in fact looking at it from a historical point of view the tribes of Dir always invaded yusufzai lands i.e. swat valley on an annual basis and would rob basically anything and everything they could carry, including kidnapping women.

This was the way it always accured until the yusufzais had enough of there barbarity and gathered british rifles and appointed a leader. This time round the yusufzais had prepared and positioned themselves on the fertil hills of swat.

The tribes of Dir arrived on horses as usual to take everything back to Dir once again but only if they knew what was to come. The yusufzais allowed them to enter into the valley and once they had penetrated the swat valley the yusufzais started the onslaught and annihilated most of them only a few survived who ran away back to Dir but the People of Dir never dared enter yusufzai lands there after.

Even from this its clear that the people of dir were mainly not yusufzai because different Afghan tribes would always be engage in war with one tribe or the other but not within their own tribe except in individual cases.

Also mardan also has yusufzai and mandarn/mandan khel (who are related to the yusufzai). There are also large population of khattaks and some momands but it is logical to conclude that yusufzai tribes just like other tribes are in increases numbers today than they use to be and would have spread further out beyond their normal territories. one because of the natural increase in population over time and the second due to people spreading out further due to the direct effect of the first point. other then that Allah knows best.

the esakhel tabar of mohmand is different to esakhel of niazi; as you can see one is from niazi's (who belong to ghilji/ghilzai) and other from mohmand (directly from sarbanrri).

i speculate esa is a fairly common name for it to be appended to 'khel' from many tribes.

Today,s laghman province is majority pashtun tribes of safis, momand, some mahmadzais etc.
The second largest group in laghman are ,pashias,,followed by tajiks, gujars and some nooristanis.
There use to be language name ,,laghmani,,.I do,nt know whether is still there.
                        The pashtuns are migrated there.
The original inhabitants of today,s laghman province were ,,laghmanis,,a branch of ,,gabaris,,.
The ,,lughmanis,,of mansehra are also ,,gabaris, ,,
                        Gabaris are related to tajiks.
Most gabaris in mansehra are infuluenced by pashtuns. They speak pashtu and now part of swati pashtun tribe.

Swati is pashtun tribe (in fact a group of pashtun tribe which include gabaris.).
The swati pashtun tribe migrated from afghanistan during the time of muhammad ghori.
They once occupy the whole of swat before the arrival of yousufzais.

so lugmanis are gabaris the original inhabitants of laghman.

                        • chamkani/samkani/sokani

The Chamkanis are traditionally supposed to belong to the Ghoriakhel section of the Sarbani pakhtoon. Some authority assign them a Persian origin. They certainly have no connection with the Afridies are Orakzai but by their Sarbani origin they are related to the Mohmands, Daudzai, and Khalils tribe settled in and around Peshawar in the sixteenth century, some of them moved to the north of the east of the kurram valley near Kirman village on the northern slopes of the Sikharam of the spin Ghar range. However, most of the tribe is at present located in the Thabai and awi Darras, in the Khumana valley in Tirah. Although, there is some doubt as to whether the tribe should be called Chamkani are Para Chamkani, since it is contended that the later name belong on the to the Haji khel section. The matter is however, of academic interest only, because people of the kurram in talking of the tribes speak of them as Parras, omitting all together the tag Chamkani.
The Chamkanis are divided into four main section, the Badakhel, as already mentioned have left the tribe altogether and have settled in the Kurram proper. The Khanikhel, the Hajikhel, and the Khwajakhel, who divide into two parties, the Khanikhel, who live far back around Thabai, the khwajak and Haji Khels who live near Kirman in upper Kurram .They are more accessible and are to a large extent dependent for their safe passage on Turi tribe and are somewhat amenable. Whereas, the Khanikhel occupy a possession very like that of Massuzai. In the whole history of British occupation of the valley there had always been trouble while dealing with one or other section of the Para- Chamkanis. FR. Kurram is still a closed and prohibited area with no roads hospitals, and Schools.
