Major problem with claiming to be "Pathan":
1. Pathan is the name Indics have historically used to describe Pashto speakers. The British then picked it up from them.
2. The most important point of all. Pathan/Pashtun/Pakhtun is NOT a caste. It is a racial group with its own distinct language and culture that has been around for thousands of years. When a lot of people claim to be "Pathan", they do so because they think it's a caste which will give them some sort of platform on a social level.
3. Since Pashtuns are a racial group that speak Pashto, individuals who cannot converse with them in their own language become alienated and sidelined.
When one migrates to another land and stays their for a long time, and has children and so on and so forth, eventually your own original identity is lost. That is the way these things go. Doesn't make any difference if your "dadi" was a "Pathan".
I'm sorry if I've sidelined a little.
