  • Lewanai Hijab is something which shows modesty but ultimate hijab is not only in the dress but in character as well (coz ive seen hijabis smoking and doing all sorts), it is not about tents which u just copied from westerners. Just a piece of scarf covering the hair, which not only arabs do but thousands of people. I saw a programme showing a mexican village they would wear loose clothes and scarfs on their head. So just stop using this arab argument, for gods sake.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

If I agree with you we w'd both be wrong.

When a woman wears a hijab, she only infers that she is in fact a walking sexual object and in order to be taken seriously, she must hide herself and make herself unattractive and ugly. What sort of a self-hating thinking pattern is this? Anyone remember the often posted picture of the lollipop and the flies? What sort of a way is that for a girl to look at herself? If I were a girl, I wouldn't stand it even for a second.

There is an indirect correlation between education and scarf-wearing. That is, the lesser educated you are, the more it's likely you'll wear a scarf. Perhaps this may not be true in the West, where 96-97% of the people are educated but it is 100% true here in the Third World. The total number of girls that wore scarves in my school and high-school were zero. Okay, there were two or three out of 500 or so. But in public universities, every girl wears a scarf or a burkha, save for the random hell-bound girl.

For those who take Hijabs on: I REALLY PITY YOU GUYS .. Just like I pity the guys who grow massive beards and trim their mustaches. They look like.... ugh, they don't look very pleasing. Oh wait, the point is to please God, not me.... Yeah, sorry.
The more I read your posts, the more does your posts tell about your education and your Intelligence.. which for me it is zero.

First of all what has education with scarf to do?
for your information all those girls who do wear scarf here where I live, they are more educated than you. Most of the girls are doctors or studying medicin... So your statment is totally wrong..

Give respect to people, so you can get back, and if u can't admire them, don't fell pity for them either, because that is their life , not yours.

            • You know what I do.. I get a hijab pin and pin the scarf together under my chin.. that way my neck is covered and it won't fly off either lol It's really the easiest way to wear a headscarf.

its just confusing and i'd rather stick to a regular scarf (:

                          • Well, I am gonna be very honest here:

I never had any interest in wearing a Hijaab. Not because I was ashamed since my previous area was full of Muslims, but because I didn't feel comfortable wearing it and I personally think it's very important a person is comfortable with the way she wears and lives. I wear like proper Hijaab, like Iranians do and therefore many people mistake me for an Iranian or otherwise an Arab. I started wearing it because my sister started to wear it when she was ten years old, just like all my cousins in USA used to as soon as they turned 12. I was being told it's a shame if my little sister and cousins wear a Hijaab but I don't and I couldn't live with that 'taunt' any more, and even today I don't feel comfortable with it. But I have learned to cope with it and got used to it and therefore ain't as bothered as I used to be. And yeah, I am wearing it for three years now but only outside or when going on visit.

                            • Thank you for your honesty, Shayesteh.. those were the kind of answers I was hoping to hear, not just 'yeah I've worn it for 10 years, absolutely great, no problems, love it, always wanted to wear it." I'm not saying that those kind of answers are fake or bad, but they might discourage those of us who are struggling.

I felt like you for a very long time Shayesta.. I was playing with the thought of it for three years but never really felt comfortable wearing it.. nor did I ever feel like I'd be wearing it for GOD but rather for society. But that feeling changed and something just clicked, and within a few months I changed, for the better. I made a decision and I started wearing it. It's not like i got it all planned out and know what I'll be wearing where or how I'm going to dress in social functions.. I think it all comes gradually but the first step is right here.

I didn't wear it at first because I didn't feel comfortable in it.. now I'm wearing it because I wouldn't feel comfortable any other way and I think that is the strongest foundation there is for Hijaab.

                              • ^ The problem is grane, no matter how much we learn to cope with it or get used to it, we still will not feel 100% comfortable with it since it wasn't our sincere wish to wear a Hijaab. Whatever that is forced on a person or a person is put under pressure to do something, that 'thing' will never touch that person's heart and a farce will remain a farce. Hope you got what I am trying to say.
