Oh I know exactly what you mean.
I knew that if it wasn't my sincere wish and my own choice to put it on I'd find myself in a situation where I find myself unable to accept it out of defiance because I'd feel like it's forced upon me. That's why it took me so long to take this step.. I wanted it to be a sincere wish rather than giving in to "advices" from others.

I do love Islam, I really do, but I HATE it when I can't feel any connection to some things mentioned in Islam! Especially when some people exaggerate it to the extend it makes your life miserable. Then I am like, is this really what Islam support? Miserableness? Why can't we live the way we want it and if He really is unhappy with it punish us at the end, instead of making laws which compels 'good Muslims' to interfere with the pettiest issues of their children?

      • If you cannot feel a connection with some things in Islam well that means you need to look at yourself rather than blaming others. If sombody exaggerates certains thing, does that give us the excuse to keep away from it? No matter how good that thing is?? I doubt it, because our belief should be according to what we feel is right (not by whispers of shaytan but through sincerity). It shouldn't be due to what the crowd says or due to pressure or due to annoyance from others that we leave an act/belief.

You don't understand that if people were left the way they want to live, then it is like being a jungle. In the west you have 'good humans' who made laws in order to stop this jungle/dark-ages maintality to make people more productive and advanced!

The same way Islam has rules which did the same, but unfortunately people left it. Islam isn't only about rules to punish, there are rules to reward, to mobilise people towards good work and to make their community better. If everybody was left to do what they want then you wont be living...somebody might feel like killing you and without any interference from good people, he will be allowed and their will be no consequences to his actions, maybe in the next life...

There is a middle way as well not just hijab or bikini. I have seen that majority of scarf-wearing ladies wear tight, indecent and revealing clothes that are more appealing than those ladies not wearing hijab but wearing decent clothes. Hair is something that does not attract men sexually.

I have also noticed that most of the women/girls wear hijab in the west as a reaction to personal insecurities and complexes....and a good number of them are not bothered by doing rest of the immodest things. No hard feelings please.....just my personal observations.

Where did I blame anyone else? I was referring at how people exaggerate certain things which definitely plays a role in a person's thinking.

That's exactly what I am doing, following my feeling. But sometimes, I am scared my feelings are deceiving me, and that also in a way I can't explain.

If you were a woman, you would have known how much pressure 'the crowd' can put on you. Many men can only comment on what I say, women can feel what I am wanting to say.

The Western way is what I was talking about where you can live the way you want, without being harmed. Of course exceptions exist, but not on huge scale. Moreover, it's feeling I myself need to get over with. It doesn't necessarily have to be someone else's fault.

              • no hon i am not...

girls who wear tight cloths only wear tight cloths because they are in denial about their weight issues. not because they want to impress men..so all you men wannabes about there get over yourselves and stop kidding yourselves.

                  Demanding male attention eh.
I've had guys follow me even when I had a Hijaab on.

You can't blame women for men's shortcomings. It all has Gunaah of it's own: A woman exposing herself is one Gunah, a man going after her is another Gunah. What's next, we're gonna blame alcohol too for "being there" and demanding that we drink it and we couldn't resist although we should have self-control.. but it was just too up our faces?

Hijab should not be a means for a woman to demand respect from men. If you need a Hijab for that, you're doing something wrong. And if you wear Hijab for that purpose, you're doing something even MORE wrong.

Nonooo omG I worded that wrong.
I DO wear Hijaab alhamdulillah. I'm just saying it doesn't make disrespectful guys respectful. A human being's self-respect and Haya should not depend on how others dress.

My reasons for wearing it, Aseer jana wrora, are several.. for one I am following a Divine commandment by wearing it and for another, more than anything, it's an identity statement. You identify yourself as a Muslima by wearing this, people become aware of the presence of a Muslima in the room. Before, there was not much that distinguished me from an Indian or Mexican girl. Now, where ever I go, people automatically know I am Muslim. They approach me, they ask me questions, they wish me "Ramadaan Kareem", they are curious about Islam and seem to have no one to even ask. To me, it's a way of identifying myself and making myself part of something greater - the Ummah of the prophet salallahi allayhi wa salam.

The reason why I asked that question was you worded in past sentence as if you used to wear it. But can you share your experiences so far while wearing it? Do you feel comfortable wearing it? Or are those kind of questions girly talks? I am interested.
Yeah, it's been a long day, I was on my feet for 14 hours

                      Experiences.. Very positive, alhamdulillah.

The first day I wore it, countless strangers approached me and said Salamalaykum and Ramadaan Mubaarak. I never experienced that before so that was an inspiring start into the semester and into my life as a Hijabi.
It has become easier to pray on campus lol You just stand somewhere and start praying.. instead of having to worry about how to cover your arms, neck hair etc. because it's already covered!

Maaaany people approach me and ask e questions about Islam, about Ramadan, about my reasons for wearing the Hijaab. It's beautiful because, sometimes, I feel like these people have so many questions inside them and never get to hear the other side of the story (You know the other side as in Non-Fox-News-and-O'Reilly-Factor-BS-Propaganda-but-real-life-experiences-and-answers-from-real-Muslims-without-suicide-belts).
I've had people run up to me an hug me "Mayani!! We're so happy for you!"

It is very hot over here at the moment.. but you can work around that. Allah has made it easy for us, alhamdulillah. I do wear comfortable wearing it.

                      • Yes, he has.. in the beginning I was kind of unsure if this is the kind of lifestyle I want to live.. and it I can actually do it.
How I counter it? I live life being Hijaabi and that in itself is enough of a blessing to counter all the "evil thoughts", iA.
