There is this area on campus where there are always these African American individuals who yell after girls, follow them, and call them "Little Ms. Attitude" when the girls don't reply to their desperate attempts of approaching them (e.g. How ya doooiin shaawty?!). I always had trouble with those kind of people, had been on the verge of calling campus security on them on various occasions. Anyways, today I walked past there with a Hijab on - they looked right past me - not second stares, no following, no funny remarks and pick-up lines. It's beautiful..

I had been playing with the thought of it for over 3 years now. There was a phase in which I was rather distant from my religion and very.. confused in a sense, you know? There were many questions I had that had remained unanswered; in many senses, I was lacking inspiration and a role model in my surroundings. But I went to a convention a few months ago that brought me back in touch with Islam, alhamdulillah. I found inspiration again, I found something worthwhile in seeking knowledge about Islam again. So after that convention, I read many things, listened to Khutbahs etc. I opened this thread in hopes of finding inspirational stories in that regard, too, to be honest.

Most importantly, I think I was blessed with being surrounded by the right and very positive people recently. I started with baby steps. I stopped eating non-halal meat, then I fixed my praying and started praying 5 times a day. Then Rojha came along and I had fixed a date for myself a few weeks ago as to when I would start wearing the Hijab - God willing. And that day was today.. I hadn't told anyone (except one person) because I was unsure and didn't want to disappoint anyone. So I woke up this morning, put it on and left for school. Everyone was so surprised lol

On the contrary, my personal observation of girls wearing Hijab is that they are the biggest hypocrites when it comes to practicing their strict religious beliefs. (Disclaimer: I am not saying that ALL Hijab-wearing girls are the same; these are the girl whom I have known personally and they wore Hijab..No offense to any sensibilities here.Thanks!). They did all the 'behaya' things (that men do) within the Hijab and got away from the expected troubles very comfortably. The correlation between Hijab and hypocricy is that of a direct one (in my case).
And yes, they always warned me that 'sar-tooray' like me will burn in hell or that Shaitaan is always peeing on my head (ewwwwww!!).

What lies beneath the spotless shroud of modesty is plain sanctimony. I might as well stay happy with Shaitaan peeing on my head.
Gulalai dear we are no one to jugde others or call them what ever we want too. Everyone is responsible for their own actions in this world, so are you and I.

this topic is too long so I would only share my point of view.
I don't wear Hijab, but have plans to take itc on. It is not because i want respect from others and am not forced to it either, but more because i feel myself safe in it. I feel great in it. For those who take Hijabs on: I REALLY ADMIRE YOU GUYS ..

                              • ^ LOL "hide herself and make herself unattractive and ugly." How pretty must be the one who speaks so...

"indirect correlation" are you basing this on your school and high school?

Pity? The blind one is to be pitied... Makes me think of a blind man crossing a bridge, there are a few things that can help him cross that bridge. Either he himself hearing the river on either sides of the bridge..and crossing over safely ... or maybe someone is sent along to guide him.
