    Re: Marriage to non-Pashtuns

theoritically pashtuns hate to marry non-pashtuns

but practically they marry alot with tajiks, hazaras, punjabis, urduspeakers, balochs etc.

shamefully among many tribes it is trend to sell their girls to others.

so we should'nt pose as mighty nazi-type race.

Kandahary Pashto is the most romantic Pashto you have ever heard in your life.

        THE MOST ROMANTIC.
*nods* judging from obaidullah jan's songs, it is!

Does this "true Pashtun" you speak of also have a hard time accepting *women* from other Pashtun tribes -- or from other races at all? Or is it just a big no-no for their women to marry non-Pashtun men?

            Just curious

your telling me a Pashtun from the Pashtun South (southern Afghanistan)
will marry a Tajik? The guys MAYB. The women NO.

Try telling a proud Kandahari or Helmandwaa,Paktia wala,Ghazni wala, to marry a Tajik, they will stab you.

Pashtuns from AFGHANISTAN are very proud.
              They have preserved their language,culture.

Kandahar is the only city on earth where the lingua franca is Pashto.

that means, Tajiks,Hazaras Uzbeks ALL speak Pashto.

unlike Peshawar they also COUNT IN PASHTO.

In Pakistan, it's ' Dagha price ek sow bara dey' Teek sho.

              cmon.

I love Pakistani Pashtuns but cmon now, you can not compare them to the indigneous people who has produced all those warriors you take pride in and your govt names it's missiles after.

A true Pashtun has a hard time accepting men from other Pashtun tribes, let alone Tajiks is like a NO.

I know this 1 wardak guy, he told me he will ONLY accept a Wardak guy for is daughter. That is it, finito no one else. Only wardak tribe.

That sounds like our family lol If you're not Wardak, you're not welcome

I dont believe in that ideology as a whole.

So do you want my opinion or the common Pashtun opinion from the Pashtun strongholds of Afghanistan and Pakistan?
Well, who were you speaking of when you siad in your earlier post that "A true Pashtun has a hard time accepting men from other Pashtun tribes, let alone Tajiks..."? I wanna know exactly what those "true Pashtuns" think about non-Pashtun *women* (or Pashtun women of other tribes) entering their homes through marriage.

Great. Yes, I get it now.
All I wanted to know was who are those "true Pashtuns" and in WHOSE opinion are they "true"?
So, thank you for clarifying it!

                    Re: Marriage to non-Pashtuns

My mother is from Laghman. They are not Pashtun because they are Arab descent. Though the first Pacha of the family was welcomed and accepted by Pashtuns in Laghman and Kunar. Even my fathers family accepted them without a doubt. It is true that the Tajiks in Laghman, Kandahar, etc speak Pashto and assimilated as Pashtuns.

                      The usual practice.

Most men don't like the idea of their neighbours turning up at the door that kind of marriage proposal.

We're a VERY traditional family in most respects, right down to the preference for arranged marriages within the khel/family.

That said, we have family connections through marriage to people in far and wide places, some Panjabee, some Urduwals, some Farsiwans etc.

The other day, I hinted to a colleague of mine that Turks, Afghans and Persians were ok as marriage partners because they didn't come from the colonies. What could I have possibily meant????

Pukhtuns dont give their wives to others in marriage, well not that I have seen or know of (not to say that I havent seen it, it doesnt exist, generally speaking though). You must have meant daughter?
