Exactly. Sometimes when I show pride in Pukhtana-being then my mum laughs and says 'Zema Pukhtana loore' and then pulls my cheeks, but when I praise Pukhtoons of Pakistan it's like boiling her blood. She even said once that thank God I am already engaged otherwise I would have made some Dhalkhor her son-in-law. See kana, some Pukhtoons of Afghanistan still do not get it and God knows when they will learn! Though that doesn't stop me from defending Pukhtoons of Pakistan in any argument we have........Originally posted by Ms.FutureDoctor View PostMy dear, i still dont understand that.....my family, as you also know, is like that too....i mean we are both pashtuns, so whats the problem??? Why is it that we obviously consider one another as 'one' but then when the topic of marriage comes around, its a different reaction. Its quite pathetic.Gar Jahanum Sakhtam Ferdaws Ham Mesazamat

Dder kha khor...unfortunately we have this in our people. It is in lar au bar, inshallah it will be rectified. Pashtuns have always inter married from both sides of the durand we are the same nation. This division is relatively new.Originally posted by Shayesta View PostExactly. Its not surprising.Originally posted by Shayesta View Postwhen I praise Pukhtoons of Pakistan it's like boiling her blood. She even said once that thank God I am already engaged otherwise I would have made some Dhalkhor her son-in-law
you should also remember that marraiges do take place between divided tribes on both sides of durand.[B]

Honestly, and I'll be speaking from my own experience, especially in Qandahar/Helamd/Janoobi Afghanistan, I've noticed this (in my own family)..Originally posted by shlombayare you serious lmao?
your telling me a Pashtun from the Pashtun South (southern Afghanistan)
will marry a Tajik? The guys MAYB. The women NO.
Try telling a proud Kandahari or Helmandwaa,Paktia wala,Ghazni wala, to marry a Tajik, they will stab you.
Pashtuns from AFGHANISTAN are very proud.
They have preserved their language,culture.
Kandahar is the only city on earth where the lingua franca is Pashto.
that means, Tajiks,Hazaras Uzbeks ALL speak Pashto.
They are intertwined. Tajiks have married Pashtuns.. Pashtun women married to Tajik men and Tajik women married to Pashtun men. I personally am Half/half.
And you know what the funny part is? Most of the Tajiks in my family don't even KNOW Dari, they all speak gaatta da Qandahar Pashto..:D Au pa agha Qur'an ka ye da Qandahar ta Tajik au Pashtun Farq kijhi. Their values, their morals, their principles are identical. So I don't think we can generalize there.. Au khosusan zmuzh tasi Qandaharian dagha Qandaharitob ta daghasi Ahmiyat oorkayi, chi harzonda Nafar Pashtun yi, ama da Qandahar za nayi, pa Kheshi ye pa deer Zamat qablayi.. awo? =)
Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan.

I wouldn't say "never"; I know of quite a few Pashtun female who have married non-Pashtuns, even WITH their parents' permission.Originally posted by deathmatchthings are very different, pashtuns never give their daughters to other ethnic groups it's a matter of nang.
And geez, what's with this whole "nang" thing and marriage only to Pashtuns? I mean, is it also considered 'be-nang' (dishonorable) when a Pashtun man marries a non-Pashtun woman?
I hate double standards.

If it's all about adjusting to the partner's culture/religion/etc., does a man also have to adjust to the culture/religion/etc. of his wife who doesn't belong to HIS culture/religion? If both genders have to go through the adjustments and all, why focus on the "difficulties" of just one gender (the women) and not the other?Originally posted by handsomepashtunI don't want my sister spending her whole life adjusting with someones culture, not knowing the language a family speaks in.
And what if that sister of yours actually WANTS to spend her whole life adjusting to her husband's culture and other ways of life? If the man is worth it, I personally would never mind, provided he respects and appreciates mine as much as I would be respecting and appreciating his language/culture/region/values/etc.
