^ interesting, your results seem different from the other pashtun samples I have seen, but is south asian included as south west asian? I am surprised that it is not listed at all

and also your very high Mediterranean component is very different from other results.

I think this puts in to perspective that the area around Afghanistan is very diverse, people can have totally different origins from each other, which also explains the diverse looks

      Mother's side: Ghilzai Pashtun

Tribes that I am made up of:

      Amarkhel (Pashtun)
      Kharoti (Pashtun)
      Arghandi (Pashtun)
      Alakozai (Pashtun)
      Tarakhel (Pashtun)
      Jaghuri (Mongol-Turkic)
      Mohammadzai (Pashtun)

Genographic took my results and put them into categories that they have researched, Iranian and Pamiri Tajik, which in the middle, is where Pashtuns are from. Not sure if the 17% East Asian (North and South) come from my Jaghuri link, or from another link. I'd like to run a Geno 2.0 test on my father to get my late grandmothers mtDNA ancestry, she was from the Kharoti tribe.
Amarkhel is a subtribe of the wardak tribe.

Amarkhel is not a subtribe of the Wardak, they are Suleimonkhel.

I'm not sure where you got your information from, but it is wrong. Amarkhel are a subtribe of the Suleimonkhel from the Ghilzai branch. Wardag's origins are disputed, but there is not any consensus that they are Ghilzai. In fact, Wardaks say they are from the Karlani branch. Their subtribes are Mamak, Mayar, Mirkhel, Noori, Larrem, Gadai, Malekyarkhel, Khwaremkhel, Adinkhel and Massrikhel.

The origin of the Amarkhels is not Maidan Shar, but most likely Nangrahar. Amarkhels are spread along two major regions, one in Maidan-Wardak, and the other in Nangrahar; they also reside in Paktika, Jozjan (Kochian), and some are now residing in Kabul. The progenitor, Amar Baba is buried in Nangrahar. Their subtribes are Yarkhankhel, Ashratikhel, Borlkhel, Aladoshkhel, Yosufzai (not the same as the major Pakhtun tribe), Mamikhel, and Ghundakhel.

Lol do you want proof? The anarkhels are defiantly wardak and not Ghilzai. Not every tribe belongs to the Ghilzai confederation. Also it's called vast migration if they are in nangrahar since all tribes spread everywhere. Like for example my tribe the Musakheel originate from ghazni but spread everywhere in Afghanistan like balkh, kunduz and a lot if then are in Quetta now. It's migration dude.

How much do one of these genology tests cost? And how does it work?

What are Anarkhels? Amarkhels are Ghilzai. I don't need proof, I am part of Amarkhel, and I have written proof, with backup from the Afghan historian and anthropologist, Dr. Latif Yaad. Just for curiosity sake, where is your proof for your claim?

Geno 2.0, also known as Genographic Project 2 Beta, you get 5 tests in one for $199. It will identify your subclade for both maternal and paternal, as well as autosomal, and calculates your Neanderthal and Denisovan ancestry. If you're female, obviously you won't get your paternal, but you will get autosomal results of your DNA that comes from both parents. Another way to figure out your paternal ancestry is to test your brother or father, or any male from your father's line.

If you want to just do a simple Paternal genealogy test, FamilyTreeDNA does one for $49, it will identify your clade, a full mtDNA test costs over $300.

Your best bet is to do the Geno 2.0 , which will give you everything.

It was a typo. You know what I meant. I know this guy personally who told me that the amarkhels belong to the greater wardak tribe. They also belong to the durani sector NOT the Khijis which the Ghilzai are party of. Also all these test are pretty useless and prove nothing. All it proves in your case is that you are full pashtun mixed with different tribes. That's all.

Are you sure you're not talking about Amirkhel? They are a different tribe altogether. But you are absolutely and positively wrong on all counts.

Just checked it out on national geographic, that's about £100 odd, not bad. Too bad the wait is so long.

You have to take into account they are coding your entire mitochondrial DNA, all 16K+ base pairs, and also running dozens of SNP's , including over a hundred STR's, through both mtDNA and Y-DNA. On top of that, they are also assessing your DNA for Neanderthal and Denisovan lineages, and then looking at your autosomal DNA, which will compare your DNA with study populations all over the world to see who you are the most closely related with.

Considering there has never been a study involving Afghans in this level of detail, it is worth it. As I mentioned in another thread, there has been little Pashtun involvement in studying their involvement in human migration. The more we have, the better we understand where Pashtuns came from. Where they all one united tribe? Were they from multiple origins? How about their women? Was there a lot of intermixing of women from other regions, or are they uniform like the Pashtuns, who are overwhelmingly (51%) one paternal haplogroup.
