Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

      -Ferishta, 1560–1620

Would you say that tradition is the same as culture?

Culture: the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society:[count noun] :people from many different cultures.

Tradition: the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.

I have taken my definitions for دود andکلچر from http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/search3advanced?dbname=raverty&query=dod&matchtype =contain&display=utf8, as well as lessons given from http://gloss.dliflc.edu from the following articles:

هیله د هلمند څخه یوه ځوانه انجلی ده. دا ده ملالی ښوونځی په نهم ټولګی کی زده کړه کوي. د دی پر سربیره چی دا زده کونکی ده دا غالی هم اوبدی. دا د غالی اوبدل خپل د استاد جان محمد څخه زده کوی. د غالی اوبدل د دی د کلچر لویه برخه ده.

Hela is a young girl from Helmond. She is in the ninth grade at MalalaiHigh School. Besides being a student, she is also a busy rug weaver. She learned rug weaving from her teacher Jan Mohammad. Rug weaving is a big part of her culture.

                      Another article:

Wagma: Why don’t they invite their guests to restaurants?
Laila: It is not an Afghan tradition. They like to invite guests to their homes and offer them a home-cooked meal. Afghans are very hospitable people.

                              السلام عليكم

Can we start a thread to come for when we need help with a single word or a few words translation? I am using this thread as a last resort after having Googled, looked in this dictionary: http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/raverty/, and tried another translation web site, and still cannot get the answer.

                              Here is the first one:

What is the meaning of hemat and qanam (I think that is how it is said)?

                              May Allah reward you.
