wrora i know what your saying thank you , but let me tell you something my relatives back home and in uk the women them selves are strict, no one tells them to be like this , like my mother always thinks my father isnt strict enough, alot of pashtun women in kandahar choose to live like that them selves, they run their houses in the most strict format not because the men tell them to, actually the men wish they would back off a little on the strictness, but il be honest i dont know what its like in pahktun khwa but in bradford there is the largest pashtun population from pahktun khwa and iv met alot of the women they seem so happy .Originally posted by Dreamer View Postthe whole point is that they shouldnt be restricted to the house.... they shld be encouraged to particpate in life and in all fields of life etc

The further we intervene into their affairs, or buttress intervention into their affairs by others, the farther back their cause goes. I think Kakar girl has a point, evolution of thought and progress occur at their own pace. However, if I am to go back and enforce my cultural biases or ideologies, they will see me as an outsider attempting to enforce my views at the barrell of a gun. This in turn leads to reactionary mentalities.Originally posted by Dreamer View Postthe whole point is that they shouldnt be restricted to the house.... they shld be encouraged to particpate in life and in all fields of life etc
Simply follow the progression of "women's sufferage and rights" here in the US. It was hundreds of years in the making. In fact, African American men had the right to vote before women in most areas. The women's suffrage movement accelerated once prominent men endorsed it and backed it.
However, I agree fully with kakar girl that so many households have a loving set up where it is not about in the house or out of it, or pro education or lacking education, etc. Many Pashtun men and women born in villages make great economic sacrifices to send their daughters forward."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

Correction... Birmingham has the largest pashtun population in the UK... our women are going out now and earning a living not having to be reliant on any man... Getting educated and doing wellOriginally posted by kakargirl View Postwrora i know what your saying thank you , but let me tell you something my relatives back home and in uk the women them selves are strict, no one tells them to be like this , like my mother always thinks my father isnt strict enough, alot of pashtun women in kandahar choose to live like that them selves, they run their houses in the most strict format not because the men tell them to, actually the men wish they would back off a little on the strictness, but il be honest i dont know what its like in pahktun khwa but in bradford there is the largest pashtun population from pahktun khwa and iv met alot of the women they seem so happy .

dreamer i said, working and studying in the pashtun way meaning being strict on your pashtun principles i know exactly what the majority of women are doing out there , the way they dress and act i swear i cant tell the difference if they are indian pakistani they go out for drinks after work they go out partying on friday night there wearing such short skirts most are not even virgins anymore tell me which part of that is pashtuness ,these are the women that are not pashtun language dosnt make one pashtun its about principles if a woman studys and keeps strict its a different matter, the family i come from the men provide, a man dosnt feel a man if he cant provide thats how it is, because a woman raises the kids, if both parents are working kids suffer when they come home no one is there and when they are there the woman is too tired as shes doing the out side work and the house work this is nothing to do with moving forward its about common sense a child needs a mother,a child feels secure when a mother is there when he or she comes home, i do intend to keep my pashtun ways im so proud of it, its like my father was always working in oxford uni didnt use to see him for days as he would come home very late from work but my mother was always there that gave us security that mum is there.

i don't know about the rest of you but i would feel very bad for a man who finds the need to define himself by his ability to earn. suppose he losses his arms or legs tomorrow...is he no longer a man because he can not provide for his family???
being a mother, giving one's child enough attention, love and support to have them become the best of what they can be is one thing and dedicating your life in to raising mentally handicapped children who can't function with out you, something else...
i would be damned to hell if i was expected to stay home and raise my sons to define their gender by their income and my daughters by their ability to bear and be good cooks, period...someone who expects only that from me surely doesn't see or respects me on aspects other than just being a woman...
..you assign yourselves as personal slaves all your lives and then you wonder why you are being treated like **** in society..
I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.
non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.
