Failing to make takfir of a kaafir and ascribing a kafir to Islam is a grave matter. It means that you expand the fold of Islam to include non-Muslims.

If someone says something or believes in something that is clear cut kufr, and you still consider this person to be a Muslim, then you have failed in your own shahada.

I think SK 's right to remind everybody about the strict / punishment side.

It's NEW AGE thought what Khan Lala says -

The mantras recited by many Christians in America & the West
who have picked up this cop-out route are :

                    --There is no Hell
[ for EVERYONE no matter what they do or have done is
                    headed for Heaven! ]
                    --There is no Sin
--Do whatever you want, for God loves you
[just like you are - no need to improve or change into
how God WANTS YOU to behave ]

--There is barely any afterlife - at least science hasn't verified it -
so if a doctor or a scientist didn't confirm it for you -
then feel free to do whatever you want on earth - for there's no tomorrow.
--Engage in every materialistic gain and think for yourself only
because God is benign: He will wink at you and turn a blind eye
                    to whatever you do wrong.

--Have a field day disobeying God's orders.
                    --Humans rule today.
                    --Humans make their OWN destinies;
                    --God did not plan anything for you ;
                    --You did it all.
--You chose your parents, your home, your country,
                    yes YOU!
--All before your birth, it was you who decided your destiny,
who you will marry, where you will live, your entire life
--Your life is only a "learning experience" on earth.
--There is NO RIGHT or wrong decision in life.

-- Above all, there is no "Will of Allah" - you make your
own choices according to whatever whim
--- usually inspired by Shaitan ---
strikes your fancy - you never ask yourself
' Am I doing the Will of Allah [swt] ? '

So a tip back to the other side of the scale toward REALITY is very much needed.
SK is doing the right thing to reinforce all the traditional views.

We have taken our desires as our God. And therefore, we cannot imagine a deity who will punish us. All we want is fullfill our desires and only follow those rules that make it easier for us to continue in our pursuit of achieving what we desire from the worldly life.

As soon as you start talking about hell fire, punishment, accountability, Allah's wrath, suddenly you are ignored and labeled as an extremist.

                        ^ EXACTLY !!!!

                        It's NOT extremist ;
                        it's WISE
ADVICE for souls to stand apart from the dangerous swirls of thought
which permeate every associate in workplaces,
                        acquaintances at random,
                        articles in the media,
nearly ALL Christian "churches" today preach this message
which in turn filters into the fabric of Western societies.

I am very dismayed at this weak, devil-inspired mentality
which is leading so many into the path to Hell.

Hell is terriby serious; it's not a figure of speech.
It's time to change NOW before one meets that
                        terrifying fate.

MERCY is giving advice to help people wake up while there's time
There always IS time for people to repent and mend their ways.

But better not to procrastinate, counting on that merciful side of Allah [swt].

There's no time to change like today !
                        This minute !!!

Yes he is strict in punishment. BUT remember he is also the ONLY judge, and master of the day of judgement.

You calling people Kafir, is judging somebody; which is only Allah's job.

SO the Sahaba were wrong to make takfir of those deviants? You know better than the Sahaba? Sahaba went against Islam by making takfir?

God is الحكم Al-Ḥakam The Judge, The Arbitrator 22:69.

He declares who is really a believer, and in unbeliever. The concept of Takfir was brought from Abu Bakr. Who declared people who didn't pay zakat, be labeled as in unbeliever. Abu Bakr declared this when they were Muslims, adding other things to Islam.

So for one to be considered an unbeliever, is when Muslim(s) starts to add more to Islam. Like Mirza Ghulam Ahmed, from Ahmaddiya/ Bahai/ Shia.

In this case (prayer) the person is not adding anything to Islam. His deeds are in the hands of god. You or anybody else labeling people "Kafir" is hypocritical, to your faith.

Why wont you tell the whole story?

Abu Bakr Siddique radiallahu anhu made takfir of those who refuse to pay Zakah. Refusing to pay Zakah is an act of apostasy.

So if refusing to pay Zakah is kufr, how about refusing to pray? Prayer has a higher status as a pillar of Islam than paying Zakah.

So how can someone be a Muslim while not praying and yet become a kafir for not paying Zakah?
