Does leaving the prayer make one a kaafir?

This is correct. According to Imam Sahib's (Hanafi) madhhab and the Maliki and Shafi`i madhhabs, missing the prayer does not entail one being a kafir.Originally posted by afghan View Postthe munafiqeen has prayed alongside the prophet, did not miss any prayer, according to Imam Saeb hanifa no one become kafir by missing the prayer.
From Reliance of the Traveller:
The Hanafis, Malikis, and Shafi`is all hold that someone who misses the prayer out of laziness is a Muslim, and that missing the prayer does not entail his being an unbeliever. Nawawi says, "This is what the vast majority of early and later scholars have held" (al-Majmu` (y108), 3.16). As for the Hanbalis, they have two views, the first being that such a person becomes an unbeliever and is dealt with as a renegade from Islam (def: o8.2), while the second view is that he does not become an unbeliever, and this is what Ibn Qudama, in al-Mughni (y63), 2.329, has declared to be the soundest position.

The following hadith is part of the evidence that someone who neglects the prayer is not an unbeliever (cited in Reliance of the Traveller):
The hadith of `Ubada ibn Samit (Allah be well pleased with him) that he heard the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) say:
"Allah has made five prayers obligatory: whoever performs their ablution well and prays them in their time, completing the bowing, the humility, and the awe that is due in them, has entered a solemn pact with Allah to forgive him. And whoever does not, has no pact with Allah: should He want, He will forgive him, and should He want, He will torment him,"
which is a rigorously authenticated (sahih) hadith related by Abu Dawud and others through multiple authentic channels of transmission. The evidence of the hadith is that the case of someone who does not pray is up to Allah's considered choice, meaning that Allah could choose not to torment him, while it is necessarily established that unbelievers will be tormented and enter hell (n: necessarily established in that the words of the Koran will necessarily be realized against them, just as Allah has stated (dis: w55.3(2)))--a consideration which with the above hadith indicates that someone who neglects to pray is not an unbeliever.

Imaam Abu Haneefah had some views leaning towards Irja. And He does not have the final word in these matters.
besides, if we listen to you Sufis, you practically label everyone as Muslims. Hindus, barelwis, Shi'ites etc.
Oh and btw: Since you mention Imaam Abu Haneefah, it is written in Fiqh al Akbar that the one who does not believe that Allah is above his arsh, is a kaafir.
Now I am wonder why you Sufis still consider yourselfs and your fellow Mu'tazili/Asha'ite and Maturudite brethren as Muslims.
If you really want to cling on to the views of Imaam abu Haneefa, than make takfeer of every Maturudi/Ash'ari/Kullabi. Since most of you deviate from what Imaam Abu Haneefah believed to be kufr.[SIZE="4"][B][CENTER][URL="www.quranawsunnat.com"]www.quranawsunnat.com

for you every one is a kafir, many people dont pray in young age, but they start it when they are middle aged, and even much older when there is nothing to do, but to pray.Originally posted by شمله ور خراساني View PostThey are not the same. Wasn't Bukhari a Sheikh? Weren't the Sahaba shutukh who compiled the Quran into one book?Originally posted by کیش View PostOh please, your the one who listens to Sheiks all the time. Now you do not want to listen to our opinions, or "creative interpretations"?
I say your sheiks and scholars are the ignorant ones.
Near the day of judgement, the "learned ones" would be of the losers. That's a Bukhari Hadith (reworded)
Your views and opinions are based on your shallow understanding of Quran and Sunnah. It is as if a kid who plays with lego and goes to tell people he can build cars.[SIZE="4"][B][CENTER][URL="www.quranawsunnat.com"]www.quranawsunnat.com

Islam Question and Answer - Ruling on one who neglects prayer
Praise be to Allaah.
The scholars have differed concerning the Muslim who deliberately neglects salaah without denying that it is obligatory. Some of them say that he is definitely a kaafir who has gone beyond the pale of Islam. He is considered to be a murtadd (apostate) who is to be given three days to repent – if he does not, he is to be executed for his apostasy. The funeral prayer will not be recited over him, and he will not be buried in the Muslim graveyard. The greeting of salaam is not to be given to him, in life or in death, and his greeting is not to be returned; prayers for forgiveness and mercy for him cannot be offered; he cannot inherit, neither can his wealth be inherited, instead it is to be given to the Muslim treasury (bayt al-maal). This ruling applies whether the number of people who are neglecting their prayers are many or a few.
This opinion is the soundest and most correct, because of the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “The difference between us and them is salaah. Whoever neglects it is a kaafir.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad and the authors of Sunan with a saheeh isnaad); and: “(Nothing stands) between a man and kufr and shirk, except prayer: (whoever neglects it becomes a kaafir and a mushrik).” (Reported by Imaam Muslim in his Saheeh, with other similar ahaadeeth).
The majority of scholars said that if a person denies that prayer is obligatory, he is a kaafir and an apostate from the religion of Islam. The ruling concerning such a person is as described above. If he does not deny that it is obligatory, but he neglects it because of laziness, for example, then he is guilty of a major sin (kabeerah), but he is not considered to be beyond the pale of Islam. He should be given three days in which to repent. If he does, then al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allaah); if he does not, then he should be executed, but this is a punishment, not because he became a kaafir. In this case, he should be washed (ghusl, after death) and wrapped in a shroud (kafn). The funeral prayer should be offered for him, prayers can be offered for forgiveness and mercy for him, and he should be buried in the Muslim graveyard. He can inherit and be inherited from. In general, all the rules concerning Muslims who are sinners apply to him, in life and in death.

He certainly did say that. But who are you to decide when exactly the end of days will arrive? And who are you to decide which current shuyukh are corrupt and which ones are not?Originally posted by کیش View PostI'm talking about the Sheiks and Scholars of TODAY. You are just a kid who cant get detached from watching cartoons. So who are to make such accusations against the great ulema of our era?
Al though good scholars are a dying breed, it does not mean that everyone who is a scholar is automatically corrupt.
This is the view of kharawij to discredit all scholars in order to get away with what ever they desire.
We still have Quran and Sunnah and the works of thousands of scholars with us. And we still can differentiate between a bogus man and a scholar.
It is not up to children to go around and talk about these matters.
Get rid of your arrogance and pride and go and sit with a decent scholar and learn a thing or two.[SIZE="4"][B][CENTER][URL="www.quranawsunnat.com"]www.quranawsunnat.com

I caught you last time quoting a book that had a Sahih Muslim Hadith reworded differently. Remember? The one about taken pride of your lineage.
Calling me a kid? That's pretty immature, as only a kid goes around calling people a Kafir.
Who am I? Somebody
What can a scholar teach me? Lol.Last edited by کیش; 07-06-2011, 12:27 PM.

an-Nafi wal Ithbaat is the religion. Making takfir and affirming the truth is obligatory upon every Muslim.Originally posted by کیش View Post

Failing to make takfir of a kaafir and ascribing a kafir to Islam is a grave matter. It means that you expand the fold of Islam to include non-Muslims.
If someone says something or believes in something that is clear cut kufr, and you still consider this person to be a Muslim, then you have failed in your own shahada.[SIZE="4"][B][CENTER][URL="www.quranawsunnat.com"]www.quranawsunnat.com
