Much of Pashtun history is lost, Faye. Part of the reason for this, is in modern times, there's the Mullah lot who say Afghan history began in the 9th century when Islam was introduced into the area by the Arabs.

Pashtun history is a lot older than that.

However it is possible to piece it together. Like an archeologist.

It's not only the Mullah lot, it's also the Intellectually Honest Lot, the Academically Literate Lot, the Lot who don't make conclusions without solid evidence.

Afghan was a name given to Pashtun people; but when did it start ONLY referring to Pashtuns? You fail to realize useage of such terms changed over the course of time.

        • partly yes, but it took a few centuries before all of the region became primarily Islamic; There are some legends of Afghans being of these original groups, but they're in history books scribed in the 15th-16th century, and have no source information in support of them.

          • This is a quote from Ibn Battuta

"We traveled on to Kabul, formerly a vast town, the site of which is now occupied by village inhabited by a tribe of Persians called Afghans. They hold mountains and defiles and possess considerable strength, and are mostly highwaymen."

which means the word AFghan wasnt always a reference to Pashtuns.

            • i was just reading on a site called 'the berzin files' about islam and buddhism in afghanistan. what a history afghanistan has had, all those different influences. it says how the muslims still allowed the buddhists to have their religion and were accepted into the ummah, but had to pay different tax. then later it seems to say they had to convert to islam, but voluntarily. haven't read past that but amazing afghanistan. what they have had to live through. tough cookies!

                • First these so called hadiths are not history, not proof, not an argument and I dont believe in these hadith. Second if we take it as history or an argument, the naked was used only and only for worship as some people used to go around Kaaba naked but all of them were not naked in their routine life. Being naked is a religious ritual not dress of day today life

Burka is neither Islamic nor Pashtunwali. All Muslims dont wear it and Pashtuns are not wearing it in many parts specially in rural areas even today.

                  • That is the point. If people used to circumambulate naked (however this i meant) then they were doing it as part of their pagan ritual. But this does not contradict Tertullian's statement that generally the pagan arab women veiled themselves.

yes actually it does; since these women, according to Tetulian dont want to "prostitute" even their face. Being naked at all would be a total contradiction.

                              • If you don't understand that Tertullian's quote refers to the GENERAL appearance of pagan Arab women, whereas circumabulation is a very specific ceremony, then it is no wonder you have difficulty understanding osho's very valid point.

And there's no point repeating it, since you will not be able to understand it without a couple of years worth of explanation.

Hopefully not everyone is this lacking in IQ.
