  • US attack on Waziristan will result in united response: Imran

    * PTI chief says after coming to power, his party will liberate country from shackles of US, establish peace, harmony in Karachi and other cities of country

    Staff Report

GUJRANWALA: If the US army attacked Waziristan, the whole nation would give a united response and counter it, and separation from the so-called US “war on terror” would end suicide attacks and jihad in Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday.

Addressing a rally in connection with his “Remove rules and save country” campaign attended by 50,000 PTI activists and members at the Liaqat Park, Khan said that he had asked General ® Pervez Musharraf to refrain from launching an army operation in Waziristan but he did so on the behest of the US and as a result we have lost 35,000 men. He blamed the “dollar-loving Pakistani rulers” for the mass killings of Pakistanis.

He said that the war on terror belongs to the US and not Pakistan, adding that the policies of the country were not in favour of national sovereignty, as a result of which American Army head Mike Mullen was issuing threats to our country today.

He asked President Asif Ali Zardari to inform the nation about his role under such crucial circumstances and said that our nation needed leaders and not ‘geedars’.

The PTI chief said that after coming to power, the PTI would liberate the country from the shackles of the US besides establishing peace and harmony in Karachi and other cities of the country. He said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan People’s Party, Awami National Party all had armed wings in Karachi and it was only the PTI that was working peacefully in the port city and had the capacity to establish peace in the densely populated city of the country.

He said that the country had fallen prey to the recent floods and President Zardari had gone to Dubai for shopping.

He urged the people of Gujranwala not to vote for those leaders in the upcoming general elections who were subservient to US officials, adding that the country would soon experience a positive change, which will help Pakistan, stand on a firm footing besides strengthening its economy. Imran said that self-respecting Pakistanis garner respect from outside. He blamed the US for suicide attacks and terrorist activities on Pakistani soil.

The PTI chief said that the US was bombing the Afghan people, instead of fighting against the Taliban in the neighbouring country.

          • Shujaat warns US to desist from offensive against Pakistan

            Staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Sunday urged Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to convene an All Parties Conference to counter the US threats to national security and integrity.

Terming the US threats to Pakistan a negation of diplomatic norms and traditions, he said that the national leadership should ponder upon the issue.

Chaudhry Shujaat warned Washington to desist from an offensive against the country, as US presence in the region was dependant on Pakistan’s cooperation. He appreciated the role being played by the security institutions in the existing situation and asked the national leadership to keep national interests above other causes.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of his father Zahoor Elahi’s death anniversary in Gujrat, Chaudhry Shujaat said that the situation in Karachi needed a political solution as neither the Supreme Court nor the Rangers or army could solve the problem.

The PML-Q leader said that peace in Karachi could be restored through political means only and asked the PML-N and the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership to help in coming up with ways and means to solve the issue in the provincial capital.

He criticised the PML-N government in Punjab, saying that the government of the Sharifs in the province could not match the Elahi government in the development of the province. However, he said there is no political party in the country which could match the PML-N on corruption, loot and plunder and making MPs turncoats.

Addressing the participants, the PML-Q leader said the present Punjab government had failed to provide basic amenities to the people of the province and had closed down many health, education and social sector facilities provided to them by the PML-Q government.

            • 150 suspects arrested, cache of weapons recovered in Karachi

              By Atif Raza

KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Sunday continued the surgical operation in various localities of the metropolis, including Lyari, held 150 suspects, recovered huge cache of weapons and found two torture cells.

In a raid in Lyari, they cordoned off Gul Muhammad Lane, Nayabad, Slaughter Yard, Singo Lane, Shah Baig Lane, Chakiwara, Kalakot and other areas. Sources said the law enforcers also held Zafar Baloch leader of Aman Committee but released him within couple of hours. However, Rangers did not confirm his arrest.

They said that Rangers also picked up over 130 suspects but released many of them except 17 alleged terrorists including Rashid Rekha, Mullah Nisar, Saeed, Rashid alias Tension, Asif and Hanif. The sources also confirmed that Rangers recovered three dungeons where people were brought for tortures and killing. The two were recovered from Gul Muhammad Lane and one from Nayabad while Rangers was yet to confirm the recovery of dungeons.

The LEAs also seized cameras installed in various locations and mobile jamming devices.

Rangers claimed to have recovered a huge cache of weapons, including licenced weapons. The illegal weapons recovered were rocket launchers, SMGs, hand grenades, kalashnikovs and other sophisticated weapons.

It is pertinent to mention here that Rangers and police conducted at least four other operations. Similarly, law enforcers also cordoned off the area of Baldia, Dawood Goth and arrested 15 alleged miscreants. They also carried out the operation in different areas of the Burns Road and picked up seven suspects besides seizing weapons.

The sources said that LEAs arrested a man who is an active worker of a political party but no official of police and Rangers confirmed it.

No one is debating Pakistans duplicity, but when if they side with the US, they will face a civil war that will have enormous consequences.

They have no choice but to end their support, especially after being publicly threatened with war by the US today by Graham.

Like I said, many who oppose Pakistan for supporting US war against Afghanistan have wanted this all along. Groups like TTP that have been further radicalized by this war want this. Iran wants this. Many want this.

Graham made public threats. Logically speaking, it finally ends Pakistan's support for US war.

This support to the US had to end one way or another, I guess.

                  • its funny as to what secular people call terrrorists.

Basically, they label any Islamist a terrorist.

The worst crime today is to be a supporter of war.

                    This is what they are

They claim to be concerned for Pashtun welfare, but then they are supporting US war against Waziristan ???

                    • Time for Pakistan to act on Haqqani menace: Musharraf

Time for Pakistan to act on Haqqani menace: Musharraf

Karachi, Sep.24 (ANI): Former Pakistan president and chief of army staff General (Retired) Pervez Musharraf has said Pakistan-United States relations have reached a critical stage, and it is time Islamabad took a decisive action in this regard.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Musharraf said the time has come for the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to take on the Haqqani terrorist network, and added that indecisiveness would not help the situation at all.

Pakistan should confidently approach the United States on the issue. (ANI)

Didn't think Musharraf would stoop this low. He is desperate to come back to power in Pakistan and being in America's good book helps.

Someone should ask him, that why didn't he take care of Haqqani when he was the leader of Pakistan.

                      • 14 militants killed in FATA

Security Forces (SFs) on September 24 killed 14 militants and neutralised two of their hideouts during operations in Orakzai and Khyber Agencies in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), reports Daily Times. According to sources, SFs bombed the suspected hideouts of militants in Dabori, Alikhel, Mamozai and Mullakhel areas of Orakzai agency with jet planes. During the operation at least 10 militants were killed while two hideouts were also neutralised.

Further, in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency, SFs pounded suspected hideouts of terrorists with heavy artillery fire, killing at least four militants. The areas targeted by the SFs were considered to be strongholds of terrorists.

PESHAWAR: At least 15 militants were killed Saturday in a gunfight with troops in a restive northwestern Pakistani district, security officials said.

The day-long gunbattle near Kharkai hills, in the Lower Dir district of the once Taliban-infested Swat Valley, started when troops were approaching a strategic peak to establish a post, a senior security official told AFP.

“More than 15 militants were killed in a clash with security forces,” the official said.

“One soldier was martyred and three others were wounded,” he said. Another security official confirmed the fighting and casualties.

Last week a suicide bomber blew himself up in the same district as mourners gathered on open ground in Jandol town attending funeral prayers.

More than 4,600 people have been killed across Pakistan in attacks blamed on the Taliban and other extremist networks based in the tribal belt since government troops stormed a radical mosque in Islamabad in 2007.

In 2009, 30,000 Pakistani troops went into battle against Taliban fighters who for two years had terrorised people with a campaign of beheadings, violence and attacks on girls’ schools in Swat and parts of Dir.

The army declared the region back under control in July of that year and said the rebels had all been killed, captured or had fled.

                          • Commanders in favour of defusing tension

ISLAMABAD: Top army commanders held an extraordinary meeting on Sunday in the wake of US allegations about ISI’s links with the Haqqani network and agreed on the need to de-escalate the situation.

Holding a corps commanders’ meeting, possibly for the first time on a Sunday, reflected the seriousness of the crisis created by a series of allegations levelled by US officials against Pakistan’s security forces and its top intelligence agency. However, the military’s public affairs wing, ISPR, didn’t say a word about the outcome of the meeting chaired by Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. Earlier in the day the ISPR had announced that a special corps commanders’ conference had been convened to “discuss the prevailing security situation”.

A source privy to discussions at the conference, however, revealed that de-escalation efforts were afoot. “Escalation is harmful. In the cost-benefit analysis there appears to be no benefit of a confrontation.”

His claim was corroborated by another senior official.

But there was nothing to suggest that the army had agreed to act against the Haqqani network under US pressure.

The army is rather asking for developing strategic coherence and clarity about US goals in Afghanistan and thinks that
                            operational differences would be addressed.

The commanders met at a time US Centcom chief Gen James Mattis was to leave Islamabad after meeting Gen Kayani and Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne.

Fresh strains in Pakistan-US ties in the aftermath of allegations by Admiral Mullen and other US functionaries remained the focus of the discussion.

Army and the political leadership has categorically rejected the allegations that the Haqqani network was a ‘veritable arm’ of ISI and that Pakistan was responsible for the attack near the US embassy in Kabul.

It is understood that Gen Kayani, who later in the evening departed for the UK to address International Institute for Strategic Studies and the Royal College of Defence Studies, conveyed to his commanders the message Gen Mattis had brought with him.

Little is known about the precise nature of the message, but the US embassy said: The Centcom commander stressed on “the need for persistent engagement among the militaries”.

An ISPR statement on Gen Wynne’s meeting with Gen Mattis quoted the former as having spoken about “achieving enduring peace in the region… through mutual trust and cooperation”.

Reuters adds: Gen Wynne expressed concern over the “negative statements emanating from (the) US”.

“He stressed upon addressing the irritants in relationship which are a result of an extremely complex situation,” the statement said.

About the corps commanders’ meeting, military spokesman Maj-Gen Athar Abbas said: “The prevailing security situation was discussed.”

Gen Abbas acknowledged that army’s Directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence maintained contacts with the Haqqani network, but said that didn’t mean it supported it. “No intelligence agency can afford to shut the last door of contact,” he told Reuters.

“Maintaining contact doesn’t mean that you are endorsing or supporting that terrorist organisation.”

firstly there are no Afghans (except some people who are migrants) in FATA ...and secondly most FATA people do not support the Taliban.

Thirdly pulling a peewee herman "I meant to do that" routine doesn't exonerate that the Taliban are panicking.
