Was the funding about to be cut?
It is odd that the ISI gave him up now. They had to get something for it or they were pressured enough. They would not give him up for nothing. I think the US finally used their ace card. the Pakistani are afraid of one thing and that is its sovereignty and its questionable territorial borders. I think the US told them that they will side with Afghanistan about the Durand line in the international arena, This fear might have led the Pakistani to give him up. The US can easily flex its economic and military muscle to bring other nations to side with Afghanistan on the issue.

Also if they knew exactly where he was, I think they could have captured him alive rather than kill him in a firefight. Why did they not capture him alive and tried him in court like Saddam. What would the ramification be if he were captured alive. Would he have been a more powerful figure on trial, in jail. Many many questions.

I would agree…I can speculate…Pakis didn’t know…if we keep the recent ….during election…Obama clearly stated if he comes to know of Osama hiding in Pakistan, he will get him, without any hesitation or informing anyone. Notice Obama said US has OBL body…this tells me…American went there alone…maybe with some of pakis they keep in their payroll.
Pakistan needs to get ready for revenge attack by Alqahda and "Pakistani Taliban"…inshallah sooner then later Pakistan will die her natural death.

I mean they didn't know that Americans had tracked him down...There is a trust deficit between the two...I mean the mere fact that he was murdered deep inside Pakistan (which Obama emphatically mentioned) indicates Pakistani establishment wasn't in the know of the things...If the operation had been carried out with the help and permission of Pakistani establishment, US could have mentiioned FATA as his place of hiding as not to cause Pakistan an international embarrassment....

Its absolutely worse than that brother. These people, if you pause and think about it, felt disenfranchized by the US intervening in their region. Fisk and others record their legitimate gripes. Pakistan supported their struggle for a profit and for its sustained feudalism. Both sides, those who oppose the Islamist Insurgency and Islamists ought to pause and reflect on this. Take as an example the contrast of Sudan, which politely ejected them and made it clear that its soil was not usable. Its really not feasible that Pakistan did not support all this. As Abdul Salaam Zaeef said, its the snake with two heads.

You are right in your assessment about the fear of anarchy as a result of Pakistan's balkanisation. The reason is that there is no such thing as Pakistani nation [if this term is valid at all]. Pakistan is a combination of 5 big nations which have been artificially amalgamated by the military elite of Punjab by sheer force and coercion. Hence it will be advisable to seggregate them one by one - Balochistan, Karachi city state, Pakhtunistan....

Its a reasonable theory to consider. However, Abbatobad, as I recall it was a very military heavy region. More evidence will emanate if they catch other leadership folks.

Pakistan is your country, and your ANP is the stooge for the ISI.

If anything, you are now guilty of serious war crimes against the people of FATA for your complicit support for drone attacks against them.

Another theory could be Pakistani establishment didn't want to be a target of militant's wrath etc. (after Osama's capture or murder by Americans) and that is why the news about Americans accomplishing the task exclusively have been propagated by the US...But why would then US "mention deep inside Pakistan"...And why would Pakistani est cause itself international embarrassment....All it boils down to one thing....Americal hit two birds with the same arrow "Osma" and "Pakistani establishment"....

                              • What most of you don't realize that what is officially said by the government and what really happened is not always the same. Most of you think that Pak did not know about it and the operation was executed without the knowledge of Pak. If that was true than the US should take out the Nuclear warheads with out Pak knowing about it. That is hard to believe. Pak not only knew about it but most likely led the operation.

Even if the US says Pak was informed after the operation was completed, that is just rhetoric. Maybe that was part of the deal. Pak is afraid of the consquences by its people if it was confirmed officially that Pak led the US to Osama.
