Preaching is different than using physical force. They are free to preach all they want but they can't force anyone to do what they did from 1994-2001.

The pashtuns celebrate it in Afghanistan because its the start of spring and new year officially. We don't celebrate it because its a pagan celebration which is not even true since new year has been celebrate at the start of spring for thousands of years.

The reason pashtuns in Afghanistan tend to celebrate is because they live in Afghanistan where its the start of spring and new year. Pashtuns in Pakistan might not celebrate because they live in Pakistan where the Georgian christian calendar is followed. Pakistanis celebrate new year like the Christian world. The Afghan calendar is Islamic Hijri Shamsi calendar.
aha so its islamic? but it was unislamic before islam?
so whats been built on wrong would grow wrong....:D

to be honest i dont think its a pashtun thing but some pashtuns celebrate it as you see in this thread and im not sure why not all the pashtuns celebrate it till now!! maybe we did celebrate it before islam.

Ofcourse many don't celebrate it because they live in other countries where they celebrate chritian new year and some the islamic new year. You have to be in Afghanistan to see if people celebrate it or not. In Ningarhar, they have the Narenj Gul mela where people gather and recite poetry and celebrate the coming of spring. Unfortunately with the rise of Taliban and other cancers, people are losing the cultural hertiage.
ma parents and two of ma brothers been born in afg not in saudi arabia THEY would have celebrate it here if they did in afg!! LOL
ma cousins go and come from afg every months and they NEVER celebrate it!!

as for the rest part al hanif bro did reply to you :D

Thats because Persians are the biggest group 80-90 million people so ofcourse they will come across as being the representatives of Nouruz.

I don't care if people celebrate it or not. Its their choice and nobody is forcing anyone to celebrate. The rituals of Nouruz have been modified so its not anti Islamic. Instead of the Zoroastrian Gathas people read Quran or other Islamic poetry such as Hafiz, Rahman Baba and so on. I rather people celebrate Hijri Shamsi calendar rather than Georgian Chrisitian Calendar. The Calendar of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is Islamic and appropriate. Its a 2 day holiday at the start of New Year in Afghanistan and you can spend it the way you want. But people usually go picnics and have a nice time. Its just an excuse for social gathering. Nobody gives two hoots about where it came from in reality.

Ofcourse Afghanistan will be moving towards Persia-stan as you put since Pashtuns are too busy trying to be Arabs, Pakistanis and Parsiban. The success of pashto depends on pashtuns working for it and making it a language of Arts culture and academia. Until then Pashtuns on both sides are prone to be persianized and urdufied.
ok now this looks like a suffi imam who didnt want to leave the old shirk which made him start read quran instad of what they use to read!!

i dnt have a prob with it if its not anti islam!! but it seems like anti islamic :S
and what i have prob with is what you guys claim its a pashtun thing!! while more than half of us dont celebrate it!!

What you said would be like saying pashtuns of Afghanistan are so pashtunified that we might as well call jalalabad Pekhawar. You see how absurd that sounds? Farsi speakers of Afghanistan and Iran and Tajikistan share the same language and culture and its natural that they will influence each other. Its not Pashtuns conern how cosy they get as its not farsiwan's concern how cosy pashtuns get from Lar aw Bar.

Having said that we must be vigilant of Iranian intentions in Afghanistan (spreading shiaism, persianess on pashtuns etc) but Mirwais Hotak (ra) already showed them what will come their way if they try anything dodgy.
maybe its been a pashtun thing in mixed pashtuns families?

what is the (ra) after mirwais hotak? -_- lol

As its been proven the celebration of Spring is older than Zoroastrianism. If you can prove to me Islamically that eating Haft Mewa on Nouruz is haram then I will accept it. The rules of Islam state everything is Halal until explicitly mentioned as Haram. Its not the other way around where everything is haram until proven halal.
If its not a pashtun thing then how come the old rulers of pashtun regions such as Arachosia (kandahar) and Gandhara (peshawar, swat) bringing gifts to the persian king in Persopolis?
Its very clear that after the arrival of Islam the people changed their old customs in accordance with Islam. Just read what tor_khan wrote about Akhtar. He says Akhtar could have come from "Yakh Ter" meaning cold weather ending. So when pashtuns became muslims they used that same name for the Islamic festivals of Eid. Why else would we call Eid Akhtar?
The same with this stupid bani isreal descent theory. After the arrival of Islam pashtuns learned that most prophets came to Bani Isreal so they conjured up a story to make a place for themselves in their newly accepted religion. In the DNA thread, it was found that those Afghans claiming to be Arab were actually more closely related to India.

All these examples show that after the arrival of Islam people tried to use it for their own interests.

I know there are levels of shirk thats why I mentioned those examples because calling every little thing shirk devalues the real meaning of Shirk.
how come more than half of us dont celebrate it anymore? if we use to do!!

how did pashtuns celebrated it before islam? if it was anti islamic then what we celebrate now days is not a pashtun thing.

go to Kunar and see how people are before coming here judging them with foreigners glasses.

for us muslims Islam is superior to paganism and islam has culture, customs and its the whoel way of life.
you seem to be confused my friend.
just because you can use the word mullah doesnt give your claims any validity.

you think mullahs are bad for teaching people that nowroz is paganism (which it actually is).
liek i said ive celeberated nowroz all my life but i never will compare it to Islam or defend it in the face of truth.
So dragging people off the street and into mosques is not physical force? Isn't this what Taliban did during their last time in power? OR Am I mistaken and its all propaganda?

Ofcourse Kunarian will follow them when they are issued with threats and dire consequences if they don't. Once Karzai the puppet and the infidels leave, Kunarian will have no reason to follow them and they will have no excuse to roam around the streets trying to implement so called Sharia.

you think mullahs are bad for teaching people that nowroz is paganism (which it actually is).
OK, prove it Islamically that eating haft mewa and gong to picnic with your family and cooking Samanak is Haram.

Prove Islamically that Pashtuns who celebrate Nawe Kal are commiting shirk and following pagan rituals.

Prove that the Zoroastrians are pagans?

If you can prove these points then you might have a case until then you have no point.

More than half the pashtuns live in Pakistan where the new year is the Goergian Christian new year. Pakistan doesn't follow Islamic Hijri Calendar which Afghanistan follows. The new year in Afghanistan starts on the 21th of March each year which is the same day as Nawroz which literally means new day.

I don't know why certain pashtuns don't celebrate it but maybe maybe some jahil mullahs considered it haram and because pashtuns try to be good muslims and are mostly illiterates follow the mullah like sheep.

Samanak is a dish which parsiwan women usually make from dawn in the morning when everyone is asleep till morning cooking it slowly. Its a sort of halwa.

we afghans have loy aw warukay akhter.
we also have pesarlay feest which is about poetry and sports.

funny how you guys under the guise of criticism talk all types of things about muslims but when it comes to things non muslim all up sudden you become angry and defensive.

I never said Nawroz is part of Islam which is what you are trying to say.

Second thing is that no its not Persian hagemony as put it but similarity in culture due to belonging to the same are and same linguistic and racial group. OR you like some others here believe we are Bani Isreal?
I have already said that different people celebrate Pasarlai differently, not everyone makes haft mewa, not everyone makes samanak, you can celebrate it the way you want like naranj gul moshaira, flying kites, going to picninc, singing whatever.

Thirdly I am a hanafi muslim not Zoroastrian but many people make the mistake of calling Zoroastrians pagans and fire worshipers which they are clearly not if you read the basics of their religion.

Kunarian and other Afghans don't need Talibs to tell them how to be muslims, Afghans are muslims and don't need Salafi, deobandi inspired scholars with over emphasis on Tawhid and Takfir telling them how to be muslims.

I have no problem with people not celebrating it but telling others that its pagan and against Islam is inventing lies against Allah (swt) and Islam.

I have already proved and so have others that the origins of so called Nawroz are older than Zoroastrianism and haft mewa is not zoroastrian ritual. Just because two things have similarities doesn't mean they came from the same souce. Jews have some customs similar to pashtuns, that doesn't make pashtuns isrealites as some claim.

God knows how many harmless traditions have been lost due to stupid uneducated mullahs who declared them haram. I have no doubt that it might have been some imbecile mullahs who outlawed Nawroz so pashtuns had to abandon it. Sada pashtuns need to get their deen from the source itself rather than follow these dumb mullahs.

So called Islamic Emirate has no legitimacy and so called Amir ul Momineen is a nobody.

They don't have any authority to forbid something allowed by Islam.

What do you mean no more Ashura?

Just shows the typical intolerant mentality towards other muslims.

Although I am hanafi sunni, I have no problem with Ashura the way shias do it.

Mullah Omar needs to come to some of these mahfils they have on the day of Ashura, I am sure he will learn something.

Understanding the pro-Persian, anti-Persian thing is simpler if you relate that sentiment to others. Many here are pro and anti any number of subjects depending on their own politics and where they draw commonalities.

The bit that I understand is the bit that works for or against Pashtuns. If Pashtuns are being lost silently to other languages for example because of the economic/political strength of those languages, expect me to be somewhat defensive. I have, however, nothing against the languages per se and think it is a good thing to learn them all.
