But then a friend gave me a formula that do at the Rome what the Romans do and I dressed up like Brazilians and was trying to speak their language and I was safe.I visited almost the whole south and central America and nothing happened to me.

The same I am doing in Afghanistan and Pakistan especially in Afghanistan and Tribal areas. In settled areas of Pakistan you can travel just in shalwar kamees preferably with mustache and a little beard.I am a traveller and traveeling in my own land is not at all difficult as my family comes from Kunarh and got educated (primary)in Dir District of Pakistan. Still I have relatives in these areas.

i dont understand what your are talking about, its definatly safe to travel to major cities, the only problem areas are in the tribal region, even me a urdu speaker went to Peshawar last year to visit my cousins there, i had a great time traveling even alone on many occasions.

Osho it is good to see you traveling to so many pashtun areas....
I have also noticed that pashtuns are weak in chaplosi thats why they are not liked by their officers and they are not prefered for jobs. Compared to punjabis, they are not that much clever and tactician and are too naive...plus their temper issues make them least favourites.

They are emotionally intelligent, job oriented, concerned only with their job . disciplined, while Pashtuns create problems as they make non issues as issues and interfere in administrative and managerial decisions. They do more politics than the real work. They become angry on petty issues and its simply difficult to work with them.

It was mere chance that a friend told me that the other day an Arab recruiter in Islamabad preferred Punjabis to Pashtuns in an employment interview for Bahrain and Qatar for almost the same reasons!

I am still thinking and discovering more facts and information that why Pashtuns are not preferred for jobs because of their personality and behavioral or attitudinal issues.
Have you also taken with you that "khpal Rabab ba tangawuma..." that you somehow took out of the blue during Musharaf regime?

Do you have documentation of all the events you described? It would make the authenticity of your travels more confirmable.

Thank God you realize that, too. "Pakistani" is a national identity, whereas "Pashtun" is an ethnic identity. Just like one can be an American Pashtun or a British Pashtun, one can be a Pakistani Pashtun. The national identity is subject to change (e.g., with the creation of a new state, or the removal of one)--but so what?--whereas the ethnic identity goes with you wherever you go because it's blood-determined.

But never mind. It's clearly not so easy to understand it this way, although I wish we'd at least try understanding it because, no matter how much you or I or Pashtun nationalists might be against Pakistan, most (if not more than most!) of the Pashtuns in Pakistan love Pakistan and want to remain a part of it. It's a pity that we claim to be fighting for their well-being but refuse to hear them. And then when someone suggests that we let them speak for once, she/he is accused of supporting Pakistan's oppression of Pashtuns. ~sighs~

Pashtuns face discrimination, and fortunately, do not have slave-like mentality, and never will. That is the reason. The rest here sounds like something that Khalid Husseini or Simon Cowell's fiance Meghzan Husseini would say.

Actually 'Pakistani Pashtun' is an official identity and not national or something else.

I am meeting many important persons both from Afghanistan and Pakistan and am having threadbare discussions on all these political, social, economic, religious , educational and other issues . I am having first hand experience and request the friends here to comment on my remarks and experiences and may share their own and may not just go for petty personal information which is not at all significant for sharing and learning purpose.

If you agree with my observations then may add to it and if not then may correct me , criticize me and share your own observation or experience.

That day I was talking to a senator from Afghanistan on the issue of Durand line and Loy Afghanistan or Pashtunistan. It was so revealing what he told me that I was surprised how realistic, far sighted and wise he was. His comments really reflected the ground reality on these issues.

He told that now we must accept this harsh reality that Pashtuns are citizens of two countries Afghanistan and Pakistan. They are and can be citizens of any other country like USA, Germany, UK etc. Durand line is now an internationally recognized border. Even Afghanistan recognizes it in a de facto manner as it is not taken up by Afghanistan anywhere as a controversy between Pakistan and Afghanistan as we have other international issues like Kashmir, Falklands, Sahara. Nigoro Karabagh etc. Taking Durand line as an issue between Afghanistan and Pakistan will harm the benefits of Pashtuns as a whole.

About Loy Afghanistan and Pashtunistan he said that that these are just utopias, dreams, fantasies and dead slogans. These are conspiracies against Pashtuns to entangle them in such empty slogans in place of talking of peace, development , prosperity and education.Instead Pashtuns must concentrate on their well being in both Afghanistan and Pakistan or elsewhere.

These thoughts are so near to my personal approach on these issues and so close to the ground reality I see with my own eyes in Afghanistan and Pakistan. All Pashtuns in Pakistan including the nationalist Pashtuns are so well integrated in Pakistan and never never talk of any Loy Afghanistan or Pashtunistan even in the very close circles of ANP and PMAP.

In Afghanistan also these are dead issues and no body takes interest in a real way and I did not find no organization or party or even a group of individuals who are really struggling in the shape of a movement for any Loy Afghanistan or Pashtunistan any where in Afghanistan or Pakistan.

No one in Afghanistan can be concerned yet with Durrand line issue. However, once Afghanistan is free (which will be a reality), then Durrand line issue will be of major importance. Durrand line issue will not be resolved by non-entities like ANP/PMAP, but by the Afghanistan.

The Taliban as a movement have never recognized the Durrand line, and it matters not how integrated KP and FATA pashtuns are with the Pakistani system of things as these lands were a part of Afghanistan proper not long ago, and hence, these lands are considered part of greater Afghanistan.

This is a major issue because as long as the Durrand line is there, Pashtuns as a whole will never be able to take their place in the world. Defeating and destroying foreigners is a natural response, and while it is one of pride, it is not the complete way forward.

. Once Afghanistan is free, stabilized, and developed with its own resources, and with trade relations with other friendly nations, Durrand line issue will be resolved one way or another, give or take 30 years.
