I disagree Afghan probably has its roots from Aspagan/Ashvakan. Also Avgan has been mentioned quite a few times by Kushans and Indians

Then there is the similarities in vocabulary, grammer, and pronounciation between Kurdi and Pashto. All this can't be a coincidence IMO. See my post at
I cant find any mention of Afghani in either of your posts.....

Ehhh, no. Pashtun and Afghan are synonymous. But the word "Afghan" is Persian. You don't have the "f" word in Pashto, do you? The suffix -stan is also Persian.. so Afghanistan is a Persian word. Bitter truth.

Who says its Iranian term for Pashtuns? Only 'Afghan' name appears in the history, even in the historical documents of Pashtuns.......Pashtun or Pakhtun are absent.

You can not compare a proper term Afghan with that Bastaerdized term 'Pathan' coined by Hindus.

Do you realize guys that everything in this country, even the name, is Persian? This proves once again our superiority. Remember this next time you call yourself "Afghan" lmao
It is Persian, not Tajiki, that is widespread amongst Pashtuns.
We lack the f letter? Where did you get that from? Educate yourself chinky Mongol, the letter ف exists in Pashto.

You're probably right regarding the roots of the word. I was just saying that Afghan was the word that Persians used for Pashtuns. They called us "Afghan" instead of the word Pashtun historically.

Firdousi is making himself look dumb because actually in all Iranian languages including Farsi, Pashto etc the letter ف was introduced after Islam. In Arabic there is no پ, so they called the language فارسی instead of پارسی. There are a few letters which only exist in Iranian languages because of Arabic influence. Letters like ق ظ ض etc were not part of these languages originally and are only included in the alphabet so we can pronounce the words borroweed from Arabic in our languages properly.

Its not a sound native to Pashto though. It exists in Pashto just like the word ﻁ exists in Pashto.

The letter <f> wasn't introduced to Persian after Islam.

The farvahar is a pre-Islamic symbol in Iran and its written with an <f> not a <p>.

Persians also pronounce the [f] sound properly when talking in Persian whereas Pashtun villagers pronounce it as [p].

hmm, strange as I read somewhere that ف is borrowed from Arabic after Islam by Iranian languages. Would be strange if none of them like kurdi, balochi etc had this letter except persian.
