            3) Pashtunwali is an old ancient tradition which was mentioned during the times of Alexander the great. it's a non written code of conduct like the Bushido.

            4) Why do you pakisatni pashtuns consider everything to be associated with the British? No the british did NOT introduce anything to us.

Even in afghanistan in pure pashtun area like kandaar they use pashtu not pashtunwali.
Pashtunwali was used by outsiders and those pashtun infulenced by them.

I am from Balkh, which is in the north and we always referred it to as Pakhtunwali. The word Wali is not found in English or Persian. It is pure pashto. I don't believe anything the English say, all they want is to divide pashtuns and cause doubts.

The revenge and honor focused culture, abiding by a way of life similar to Islam even before Islam arrived in the region, the old Shinwari practice of lighting candles on Fridays, the common tradition of tapping rocks on graves, levirate marriages, spraying water on travelers, humiliation and slight when one's head is uncovered even for men, nanewatey or giving sanctuary to fleeing criminals, etc. One thing interesting is that rural Pashtun men take head covering really seriously. I have heard from relatives that if a man's head covering falls after a scuffle, the victim may even kill to seek revenge for the slight because it has a deeper cultural significance. I havn't come across such a thing in any other Muslim community except in Pashtuns. There are many more things and all of these are what I know first hand. An interesting thing I once read was that the leader of a Pashtun tribal court or jirga is known as a masher and this evolved from the hebrew name for Moses, Moshe, from whose (Mosaic) law 'Pashtunwali' is presumed to have evolved.

According to Pashtun oral legend, Qais (later named Qais Abdur-Rasheed) who is referred to as the symbolic ''father'' of Pashtuns was the 37th grandson of King Saul. When one reads about King Saul in the Qur'an in Suratul Baqarah, the King is described by Allah swt as a man who although poor and looked down upon, was blessed with wisdom and might in stature. He successfully destroyed the superpower of his time. Allah swt follows that He swt chooses certain people to overcome others in order to maintain order within the Earth and the tense that was used by Allah swt included the future tense, almost as though the ayah were a prophecy. Since King Saul is the earliest known ancestor of Pashtuns, it's odd that the same legacy continued among his descendants. To those people that deny it and claim that early Pashtuns just fabricated the story, they should look at the deeper spiritual parallels which void that assumption.

Apart from that, there are numeous (clear) hadith from the Prophet SAW where he (SAW) mentions that the sons of Aaron (as), the sons of Qais, or the Muslim Bani Israel from the East in Khurasan will fill the ranks of the Mahdi and Messiah in the battles of Armageddon.

What does "Wali" mean in this sense. The Arabic definition is owner or custodian but that does not make sense when you use it in pashtunwali because we are saying it as " de pakhtun lee-ya-ra"(The pashtun way). Even this is wrong by definition because it is not pashtun way but its actually pashto's way. Only a foreigner would say pashtun's way, not a pashtun himself/herself because a pashtun would say "our way." So the whole term is wrong.

Pashtuns on both side of the Durand say "pashto" or "pakhto." The term like "pakhto waka" is whats used by all pashtuns. Most illiterate pashtuns have never heard of the term pashtunwali because the term was made by incompetent foreigners who did not even understood the term.

Their language, way of life was always pukhto.
Pukhto was the religion of pashtun before the islam.
If one dose,nt follow the way (religion) of pashtun (pukhtu) in pakhtun society he or she was called be-pashtu.
The pashtu ,,mathals,,,are like the script from their holy book.
Even today pashtuns follow more ,,pashtu,,,then islam.
Today we are all muslims alhamdulillah but it is fact pashtu was not just a way of life of pakhtuns but religion as well.
A none pashtu speaking pashtun is not accepted in pashtun society.
                    Because he is be-pukhtu.
                    So pukhto was our religion.
I dont think you can call pakhto a religion. It more describes manners and behavior but not worship. most pashtuns are under the impression that pashto's way and islam do not contradict.

But on a side note, during "kha shpa," we make a large fire and then dance around the fire. I always thought this was a practice left over from pre-islamic times.

So? Waziri is an arabic word meaning cheif but pashtuns still use it as a tribe name. I have never heard of pashtuns referring to pakhtunwali as "pakhto" this is the first time i am hearing this. Can you provide me some evidence? I'm not buying this for some reason.

We also use the word "wali." but I asked you what does it mean in pashtunwali, custodian of pashtuns? that would not make sense.

Ive never heard of a pashto word "Wali" meaning the way. lee-ya-ra means way not "wali." and why would pashtuns say pashtun way, why dont pashtun say "our way." its like they would be speaking in third person.

-wali is a Pashto formative suffux to create abstract nouns (in the same way are created nouns as morwali or wrorwali). So translation of Pashtunwali could be Pashtunity.

There is also a compound verb pashto kawel. I think you all know its meaning.

Pashtuns are one ethnic group, varied group. That's why there are so many Pashto dialects, certain customs vary depending on the region. That's why some Pashtuns thinking about Pashtunity will say Pashtunwali, the others - Pashto.
