  • pashto was the religion of pashtun before islam.

Pashtuns never worship statues, fire or sun etc this is wrong info from iranian historians..
Their language, way of life was always pukhto.
Pukhto was the religion of pashtun before the islam.
If one dose,nt follow the way (religion) of pashtun (pukhtu) in pakhtun society he or she was called be-pashtu.
The pashtu ,,mathals,,,are like the script from their holy book.
Even today pashtuns follow more ,,pashtu,,,then islam.
Today we are all muslims alhamdulillah but it is fact pashtu was not just a way of life of pakhtuns but religion as well.
A none pashtu speaking pashtun is not accepted in pashtun society.
    Because he is be-pukhtu.
    So pukhto was our religion.

The term bai-Pashto has decent popularity in Kandahar, in fact, if someone promises someone, and fails to fulfill the promise; they usually "Pashto jhi ra karai wa, oh ta dasey wakra?".
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

i've also heard use of the word Pashto/Pakhto as a term for a promise, or even used as a term for not speaking to someone.

Contrary to popular belief, in many areas of Afghanistan (and Pashtun dominant areas of Pakistan), Pashtuns still put Pashtunwali before Islam. Besides, most Pashtuns of current day have morphed Islam into a religion that somewhat falls in line with their culture and tradition. And yes, previously Pashtuns who were unable to speak Pashto were mocked, but these days many Pashtuns don't speak Pashto. If we were to say only Pashtuns who speak Pashto are Pashtun, then the Pashtun population in Afghanistan will greatly plummet down. Many of my relatives are Dari-speaking Pashtuns, and they'd kill you if you were to tell them they're not Pashtuns. Unfortunately, they just never got the chance to learn Pashto, due to the poor education system in Afghanistan which doesn't focus all too well on Pashto literature as much as it does on Dari.

How the hell can you follow a language?

Pashtuns back then followed "Pashtunwali" which was considered a religion. Some tribes followed Buddhism.

pashtu is not just a langauge but something more .

            Now back to your question.
The word pashtunwali is not that old.It was more papular during british era.
In reality it was always pashtu or pukhto.

Did you ever heard ,,,daa be-pashtunwali dah?
or ,,daa da be-pakhtunwli khabara dah.
            I do,nt think so.

It was always like this ,,,daa be-pakhtu khabara dah
or daa der be-pakhtu saray day.
            khpala pukhto ma pragda

or ,,pashtu mathal ,,,da pukhto kaanay pa wobo ki na wrasteegi.
            pukhto kawa.

These are the papular words we use in our daily life.

            admin khana wrora,,,

The afridi pashtun use a word before eating together.
              Thowra maata kra.

Remember it is not tora or torzan.

The afridi pashtuns say ,,thowra maata kra,,,,before meal.
That means ,,thawrat,,,the holy book of Hazrat musa alaisalam and jews.
Back in the old days pashtun used some words before meal and they call it ,,thowra,,.
Now even the afridi pashtun do,nt know what ,,thawra ,,mean.

This is another theory which i am not sure about but our discussion and research is continue on that point .
For example there is tribe in jews exactly similar to our tribe name ,,gad or gadoon,,.
              This is another long discussion.

                1) My name is not Khushal

2)Like i said, you can't follow a langauge, that makes no sense.

                3) Pashtunwali is an old ancient tradition which was mentioned during the times of Alexander the great. it's a non written code of conduct like the Bushido.

                4) Why do you pakisatni pashtuns consider everything to be associated with the British? No the british did NOT introduce anything to us.

Kushan, what Gadoon is saying is that the term 'Pashtunwali' is used by foreigners moreso than by Pashtuns themselves. Pashtuns usually just refer to their way of life or customs as Pashto. Pashto is not just a language. It also denotes a code of conduct.

Gadoon, I myself have seen many customs of Pashtuns that hint to an Israelite origin. There are many hadiths about this topic. I have actually found evidence from the Qur'an al karim as well which I can share with you some time.

Dear brother, Iranians themselves havn't been initially fire or statue worshipers. Generally the sense of worship in ancient times and now is quiet different - material worship established itself when people distanced from faith. Among Muslims that happens too, at least i know quiet many of such examples.
For the Zartusht followers fire was not the object to worship, things changed when specially under Sasanids the Zoroastrian RELIGION was created. Before the teachings of Zarathushtra were closer to a faith and actually were no separate religion, but simply he Zartusht tried to bring people to faith again. Fire was nothing more than a symbol. The Sun was worshiped in sense of respect like the whole nature, it is from the moment that the people lost respect to nature, and don't keep clean the earth that the "CRUEL civilization" was born, were faith was replaced with religion.

To me Pashto seems quiet similar to all Aryan faiths, except Vegnance
