Shariah law does not allow forced marriages.
O'faithful hearken thy vezir, for he promises them another Gandamak and for the ancestors of Hari Nalwa a similar fate has been sealed. We shall shake the foundations of their inner sanctums, written in gold and immortal will remain this endeavor of Afghans.

So are you saying that after a jirga decides that a murderer gives his sister or daughter away to the victim to settle the dispute the opinion of the girl regarding the matter is consulted? LOL!

I have heard that if you, yourself is not in agreement with the Nikkah, then the Nikkah is not valid.

you are mixing arranged mariages with forced marriages, they are two diffirent things. even in arrages marriages our sisters have no choices but the girls are informed by the parents, who is the husband going to be.

even if it is arranged, women have no choice. Other people decide for them.

Sangar, who decided for Aisha (r.) to marry the Prophet (pbuh)? Was it not her parents? Was it not the Prophet?

And was her say ever taken into consideration? She was too young to say yes or no, was she not? Many say, "Well, who'd ever say no to marriage with the Prophet?!" But that's not the point: The point is that she was never consulted, according to her own accounts in Saheeh al-Bukhari -- though, of course, now one can just say, "No, no, those aren't authentic."

So, many Muslims say, "Well, we should be following the Prophet's example, since he was for ALL people of ALL times. If he married Aisha at such a very young age, even though the marriage may not have been consummated until she reached puberty, then so can we today, since he wasn't just for the 7th century; his examples are supposed to be for all times."

So whoever thinks that forced marriages have absolutely no place in Islam, think again. They may not according to the Quran; but they do according to certain authentic hadiths and the marriage of Aisha.

No culture or religion would say it's okay to force people into marriage. But people do it anyway. We should refrain from saying it's *because* the culture or religion supports it. When such a practice happens over and over and over again, it becomes normalize to an extent that people subconsciously support it or allow it to happen.

Through realizing the humanness of another individual, we might be able to abolish such practices without justifying them from a religion or cultural point of view.
