Yeah. Unfortunately, some of us think that in order to be equal, all men and all women must be the same. The best way I can think of showing how silly this is by giving a simple, easy example from mathematics:

2+2 = 4.

Are both sides of the equation the same? No, they're not the same. But are they equal? Yes, they're equal, as indicated by the = sign.

The equality of women and men is the same concept here. We're equal (and hence, a man should not be allowed to beat up his wife; both have an equal standing, both stand shoulder-to-shoulder with each other), but we are different genders/sexes, with different bodies -- and society and religions take that to mean that becuase we have different bodies, we should have different roles as well, with the intention of keeping harmony in society.
