Ok budy.. you are getting ridiculous... you can not judge me for simple reason that you don't know me... moreover i do not live in la..im just visiting la for work related... i live in VA. I value tradition and culture but the fact is that culture changes...do you even know that "Asta boro" is actually less then 70 years old...before there was no songs in wedding. white dress and asta bro is copy of European culture Amianllakh khan brought to Kabul...and in most of Afghanistan they do not fallow this culture.

parsiwaan, you show ignorance on many levels. Is this ignorance the reason why Pashtuns (the real Afghans) have problems with you Tajikistanis in their country?

Here's a bit of schooling that might improve you. Modern states, especially those outside Europe, came into being during the colonial era. Unlike their European counterparts, most Asian and African countries could not become nation-states - that is states that are made up of one predominant ethnic group. For example, in the horn of Africa, many Somalis live outside Somalia in neighboring Ethiopia and Djibouti. Similarly, Congo, Uganda, Angola, etc are artificial states where different nationalities are made to live together and are expected to salute their 'national' flag and die for it. Needless to say, the result is chaos. Similarly, it just so happens that there are many nationalities within the lines drawn on the maps that say 'Afghanistan' and 'Pakistan'. They're both not nation-states and are therefore, conjured up countries like those of Africa. Such states are fragile and their identities are artificial and weak. Ethnic allegiance trumps a common religion or "state identity". As a national of the state of Afghanistan, you should already know this.

For a state to be successful, it is imperative that it is a nation-state like Germany, England, France, Russia, Sweden - a state where one culture dominates all others. Imagine a Bosnian saying in 1900 that he's a part of the Austria-Hungarian empire and he will gladly give his life for his flag. It's ridiculous.

Therefore, when you call yourself an 'Afghan' despite not being a Pashtun (an ethnic Afghan), all you're saying is that you're nothing.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

If want to discuss something then calling one "ignorant" is not a good way to start... now if you want to start a dog fight then sorry im not interested in useless internet fight. Your definition of nation state is bs in tribal country like Afghanistan...the same is true for Arabs...almost all of they are national state..but the tribal royalty over powers the national royalty. or better read about inter-Pashton fighting of contemporary afghan history.(I suggest you read how a Durrani side with Ranjit sing against Yousufzia and was made governor of Peshawar by Rajnit sing in return to his loyalty.) Moreover you have a nonsense ethnic-centric view of word afghan…which interestingly has nothing to do with Pashtons to began with… the word Afghan is actually Sanskrit, the word ashva (Iranian aspa, Prakrit assa) means "horse", and ashvaka (Prakrit assaka) means "horseman",[24] "horse people",[25] "land of horses",[26] as well as "horse breeders".[27] Pre-Christian times knew the people of the Hindukush region as Ashvakas (horsemen), since they raised a fine breed of horses and had a reputation for providing expert cavalrymen. Muslim historican Ibn Battuta visiting Kabul in 1333 AD writes:
We traveled on to Kabul, formerly a vast town, the site of which is now occupied by village inhabited by a tribe of Persians called Afghans. They hold mountains and defiles and possess considerable strength, and are mostly highwaymen.”

Thus as you see the word Afghan was refered to a “Persians tribes” in 1333 AD…

Now as for as being nothing.. i know who i am... i know who is my 7 forefathers...so you can s.... let me say that if we both say our last name... there will be more afghans that recongized me then you... i grantee it.

            Number one:
If your dad is a Pashtun, You are a Pashtun. If you feel like you are not a Pashtun you are cheating and lying to yourself. As simple as that.
Just a suggestion... if you do not agree with someone then try to refute him...other then simply calling him or her "wrong."

Moreover im not a Tajik, no Hazara, NO Uzbak no Nurstani but simply an Afghan! Ethnic is so useless for me... i do not give a rat about ethnic.

              • Hi Parsiwaan, welcome to our community. Enjoy your stay.

If you do not mind, I just have a quick question. All I wanted to ask was are you trying to say that an "Afghan" is ONLY someone who is a citizen of Afghanistan?

What do you think of the term "ethnic Afghan"?
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

so u say u r afghan because u belong to afghanistan... ? right?

but afghanistan consists of different people.. pashtoon, hazara, uzbek, tajik, nuristani, pashayee, sikhs (from india)... which one r u ?

u have to have some roots ... what is ur root?

And am I wrong if I say those Pukhtoons have spent time in Kabul? Only Pukhtoons in West who 'lost their ways' are those Pukhtoons who either got Tajik mothers, or either are raised in Kabul and therefore speak Dari as their first language. Just like how you don't consider yourself Pukhtoon, same wise they didn't consider themselves Pukhtoons either. I have been to USA and every Pukhtoon because of whom I got embarrassed didn't speak one word of Pukhto and nor called himself a Pukhtoon, thank God. So if speaking a language decides your ethnic then those whom you are talking ain't Pukhtoons either, fair enough?

Trust me that they aren't being looked down upon as much as your culture-full Iranian brothers are. Yes, Afghan families rather not let their children marry Pakistanis but not because they are Pakistanis, but because they are non-Afghans. Stop spreading lies, will ya? This ain't any Tajiki or Khorasani forum will people will start believing ya.

And just while before you said only difference between Tajiks and Pukhtoons is their language, so how come Persian culture in this regard isn't same as Pukhtoon culture? I am seriously confused...........

Now that's a lie I could expect from any typical Parsiwaan! Kandaharis are being called gay while today it's Northerners who buy little boys or either abduct them so they can perform 'bacha bazi' for older men, while Kandaharis have been fighting for Pukhtoons' rights for centuries. Shinwaris are known as very patriotic Pukhtoons and they are possibly only Pukhtoons in politics who will reply in Pukhto if Dari is being spoken to them. The point I am making here is that it's very typical of majority Kabulis to make fun of other people while they have got no idea what type of sh*t is being said behind their backs! Respected Pukhtoons are usually being brought down by barbaric and comic Parsiwanan, who contributed nothing to Afghanistan themselves and then dare to make fun of others! Just like how they make fun of Laghmanis, though they are were dying for a Laghmani called Ahmad Zahir. Just like how they make fun of Kandaharis, though it was a Kandahari who freed them from Iranian claw. Even I can tell you hundreds of jokes made of Tajiks but I had rather not stoop to their level.

Take a look at your Mazar first where mothers force their daughters to go into prostitution, while Pukhtanas in South are dying out of hunger as they don't a man in their household, but yet won't break their self-respect by forcing their daughters into prostitution! And not to mention little boys being sold for bacha bazi!
