If there is a promblem using foreign alphabets for Pashto, why simply not invent an own alphabet that would be adapted?

By the way the Arabic and Roman alphabets both derive from the same one.
The good of the Arabic one is for sure that it is more easy for a Pashtun to learn afterwards Arabic and read the Quran in original. The bad may be problematics with the vowls. But roman alphabet is neither perfect as it doesn't have enough letters for Pashto, no?
So You would have these ugly mofified letters, its better having You own alphabet on this point or its possible to use those alphabets that were spread in acient times in the region like bactrian, sogdian , avestic scripts, or perhaps as Toramana said Kharoshthi?
May I ask how many exact sound does Pashto have?

ok first it will be changing the alphabet.. next thing you know u mught wanna change the Quran... just like other religions that rewrite their holy book ur gonna wanna do that too cuz "times have changed" right?

Reasons would be that there are not enough sounds. That all the literature is written in the arabic script and that there would be a barrier between young and old!

There are enough alphabets that can encompass all the sounds of that exist in Pashto language. What if all the literature is converted to the new script. Will you still oppose it?

Books can be reprinted, but there are monuments, history, manuscripts, artof caligraphy. Things written on buildings. There are old people who sure wont learn it anyore, and when you teach it to the young they wont be able to write the olders.

Arabic script isn't difficult, sure it has problems like the missing of vowels that doesn't make it s adapted fo non-semitic languages. On the other hand the special pashto letters aren't so ugly as are the special letters in latin alphabet.

I haven't read thru the entire thread. But addressing Toranama's point:

- Scientif/mathematical notational conventions and systems based on Greek, Roman, Latin, English symbols could be easily realizable in Pashto...With that, greater amount of knowledge could be transferred from other languages into Pashto...

There isn't a need to supplant Pashtun heritage to facilitate this. If you want to transfer the world's knowledge to Pashtuns then just make sure that start learning English at a young age.
