Those applauding this: why are you happy?

Ignore thoughts on religion... a civilized country would allow people the freedom to name their offspring whatever they want.

Same with the marriage thing. The science is out there. People are free to decide in light of that. I feel half the ones cheering this are the same ones who think it's fine for two men to get married to each other. Why apply a double standard?

They are deluded nationalists morons. This kind of moves only will boost resentment among Tajikistani Muslims.

^ so the two of you agree that most Muslim societies are the farthest thing from being civilized because according to you, civilization is defined by a society's ability to allow its members the freedom to choose??
Muslim societies expect you to adhere to strict rules or you are severely punished. Are we not civilized??

"Civilization" is an abstract term. In many senses Afghans are quite more civilized than Westerners but in general I believe there is nothing to be proud of right now. Muslims are stuck between two separate paradigms: brutal secular dictatorship or theocratic fascism. We need an alternative.

Most of Muslim countries are failed states, instability, lack of basic freedom, progress and education are the norm. No wonder most of Muslims would kill their mothers in order to reach Western countries and once they get here they spent most of the time b*tching because they find out West is not disneyland as they expected.

Dont get me wrong. I am not a murtadd nor a dirty traitor. I despise those Western wannabes who spent most of their life looking down on their own people. Despite being a non religious Muslim I believe in Islamic values/principles, I believe in Afghanyat, I love my Persian culture/language but I want reforms in our countries. This doesn't meant I want us to become a bunch of effeminate individualist decadent pussies like most of Westerners are right now but when it comes to science, progress, education, insaniyat and freedom we have too much to learn from them.

Depends really... much of what Firdousi said is right. The part I disagree with a fair amount is his dislike for individualism. Individualism is great, and one of the hallmarks of western thought.

The good parts of our culture exist... my favorite is the high degree of inequality. The lower class knowing their place eliminates alot of unnecessary strife. Look at a poor pakistani bum: most of the times he looks more physically able than a standard middle class North American. There's also close family ties, far lower divorce rates, and other stuff.

Freedom to choose, a basic amount of free market principles (diminishing by the day, sadly), and removal of religion from state decisions, and other things, are all to be admired from Western society. Although, many muslim countries are more free market than the west (if you ignore the limitations on what's available in the market).

There are drawbacks in western culture too. They treat the uproductive too well if you ask me. Many people are closet communists. Only in the west are the productive class chastised and despised so openly and frequently, and only in the west are there measures to give rewards to the lazy and those who's lives depend on government handouts. Welfare abuse is rampant. Insurance fraud is commonplace. Child support is a business model. Too much welfare... and to an extent, I can't even blame the unproductive. It's the system that's flawed. But at least there's opportunities to succeed in certain countries. I would argue this opportunity doesn't exist in much of Europe, since Europe is basically welfare-land at this point. They'd rather everyone have welfare, than anyone try to be productive. They think paid leave forever is normal.

The amount of rich Twitter/Facebook "communists", studying abroad thanks to their parents' money, is nauseating. The stupid occupy wall street event had kids on their iPads, updating things on tumblr/insta/YT. The welfare scam system is unsustainable. That's the only reason they're decaying... they treat their garbage as if they're not garbage. No other reason. This is the reason things are so messed up.

Muslim countries are definitely behind, and yes, in many ways saying they're uncivilized in certain matters would hold truth.

dont really care for the rest of the comment, especially about the inequality part but HOOOLLLYYY SSHHIIITTTT how true is this the amount of rich desi immigrants kids with everything i could dream of all being twitter communists. They've deluded themselves into being 'enlightened' but i wouldnt mind as much if they kept their stupidity to us/canada issues, but these idiots who dont know anything about their home county (especially politically) start spreading their dumbassery on us and its annoying

Though I don't understand how Arabic alphabet can be a threat to their language (especially their written alphabet is in Russian) but considering to use purely cultural names, banning first cousin marriages are both good and bright steps. Good on them.

By the way, wasn't it reported more lately they'll now promote Arabic alphabet in parts of their nation so Tajiks across the continent can communicate better and easier? And also a proposed view on possibly banning Russian surnames (aka ov's and ova's)?
