The jahmiyah, mu'tazila and their beliefs - YouTube

I guess the idea that Gods presence is above created existence and non-existence, is a bit too much. Like fish in the water probably think there is nothing out side of their existence. But the most interesting part was how he interpreted that to = God doesn't exist at all ?????
Brother, let me show you the otherside of the coin...sadly in Urdu and Arabic,i will share inshaAllah soon in English....

    Question: 6972

    Answer: 6972

      MU’TAZILITES (Rationalists)
This is the third school I will like to discuss. The word ‘Mu’tazili’ stems from the root word ‘a’zala’, which means to separate. Aisha Bewley writes defining a Mu’tazilte: “Someone who adheres to the school of the Mu’tazila which is rationalist in its approach to existence. The term means ‘ withdrawers’ because they withdrew to an intermediate position as regards the evaluation of grave and lesser sins, holding to the position that someone who commits a wrong action is neither a believer nor an unbeliever. They also opposed the view that the Qur’an was eternal and uncreated, believing that this would compromise the uniqueness of Allah.” [13]
They call themselves ‘Ahl al-‘adl wa’t-tawhid’ (The people of justice and unity). ‘Justice’, because they say that human actions are not predetermined by Allah or it would be unjust for god to reward or punish people; ‘unity’, because they reject the attribution of any physical and human qualities to Allah, saying that Allah not only is unique, but also he has no multiplicity within him. They hold the view that all anthropomorphic expressions in the Qur’an must be interpreted as metaphors and images, and must not be understood literally. [14]
Montgomery Watt explains the origins of this school in his book ‘The formative period of Islamic thought’. He says, “The account of the origins of Mu’tazilism given by ash-Shahrastani is widely accepted as the standard one, not least among occidental Islamists. According to this account someone once asked al-Hasan al-Basri whether they should regard the grave sinner as a believer or an unbeliever. While al-Hasan hesitated, Wasil ibn Ata’, one of those in the circle, burst into the circle with the assertion that the grave sinner was neither, but was in an intermediate position (manzila bayn al-manzilatayn) literally a position between the two positions. He then withdrew to another pillar of the mosque, followed by a number of those in the circle, whereupon al-Hasan remarked ‘Wasil has withdrawn (i’tazala) from us’. From this remark came the name Mu’tazila. [15]
Now I will highlight some of their beliefs. Some of their beliefs are apparent from the definitions provided above. There are five main principles that are called the ‘Usool al-Khamsah’ (The five principles). These are the fundamental beliefs of the Mu’tazilites. All their other beliefs stem from these five. Doctor Ahmad Mahmud Subhi has highlighted them in the contents of his book ‘Fi I’lm al-Kalam’. He has also gone into depth whilst discussing them in which he has provided us with some valuable and useful information. The Principles are: 1. Tawhid (unity). 2. ‘Adl (justice). 3. Al-Wa’d wal-Wa’eed (the promise and the threat). 4. Al-Manzila bayn al-manzilatayn (the intermediate position). 5. Al-Amr bil-Ma’ruf wal-Nahy an al-Munkar (commanding the good and forbidding the evil). [16]
Here is a brief commentary on the five principles.
Tawhid: The oneness of god. The Muslims unanimously agree upon the oneness of Allah whereas the Mu’tazilites take another meaning. For Allah unity means that he is free and pure from all of the physical and human qualities according to them. [17]
They interpret all those verses of the Qur’an in which the literal meaning shows that Allah has a hand or face or eyes. [18]
From this view of theirs comes the belief of the Qur’an being created. They say this because they do not believe that the Qur’an is a quality of Allah like his other qualities that are uncreated and eternal. They believe that the Qur’an is created because it contains threats and also rewards and orders. If we take the Qur’an to be eternal, then it is necessary that there be such people who the orders and the laws of the Qur’an apply or imply to at all times, where as, in believing that the Qur’an is uncreated, this is impossible, because there has always been a particular time in which there was no one but Allah. Now, if we take the Qur’an to be eternal then whom will the laws apply to in those times. [19]
‘Adl: Justice. This means that Allah is just and will treat his servants in a just manner. The belief of predestination comes from this. That is, Allah hasn’t destined the actions of a person. Otherwise if he did then on the Day of Judgment he would have no right to reward or punish him, as he would be going against the quality of justness. From this also stems the belief of freewill, that man has a choice to do as he wishes. He is not forced to do what Allah has destined for him. If he was forced into his actions then how can he be made responsible for his actions and also accountable for them? If these were predestined and man was forced into his actions then this will be pulling Allah towards being an oppressor, something that is impossible for Allah.
The promise and the threat: This is a subsidiary of the previous belief and principle. I.e. Now that we know that Allah is just and that man is not forced into his actions, instead he has freewill we come to a stage where we will say that Allah has rightfully promised for those who fulfill his commandments a great reward and also threatened those who went against them.
The intermediate position: This is their belief in regards to a person who has indulged in a major sin. He will not be classified an unbeliever nor will he be called a believer. Instead, he is in a stage between the two. So this is exactly in the middle of the belief of the Kharijites and the Sunnis.
Commanding the good and forbidding the evil: This is the only principle from the five that is related to actions. All the others were related to ideologies. The Mu’tazilites apart from Abu Bakr Asamm have agreed upon the necessity of this action for the purpose is that good should not be wasted and evil should not occur. [20]

        Question

There are some people who call themselves Mu‘tazilah and they slander Ahlus-Sunnah and all their supporters saying they are hypocrites. Who are the Mu‘tazilites? How can we refute them?

        Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Mu‘tazilah is an Islamic sect that originated at the end of the Umayyad era and flourished during the Abbasid era. They were affected by the books and views of philosophers and consequently gave precedence to reason over revealed texts in understanding ‘Aqeedah (creed). They also caused confusion among people by spreading their deviant creed through the power of the ruling authority.
They are also known as Qadariyyah, ‘Adliyyah, Muqtasidah and Wa‘eediyyah.
Their ideology is based on five pillars: Tawheed (Islamic monotheism), promise, threat, the in-between degree, enjoining good and forbidding evil.
Muslim scholars of their time refuted their arguments. Some of those scholars were Abul-Hasan Al-’Ash‘ari who was the first one to associate with them but later he renounced their beliefs and refuted their arguments using their method in argument and debate. Imaam Ahmad also refuted them and suffered greatly because of their statements regarding the creation of the Quran. Later, Ibn Taymiyyah examined their statements and exposed them in his books.
Some contemporary writers and thinkers want to revive this thought in the hope of disuniting the Ummah (Muslim nation), stirring up doubts about the foundations of Islam and making the Muslims vulnerable to their enemies.
These people work under the slogans of rationalism, enlightenment, renewal, enlightened religious thought and modernism.
The most dangerous aim of Mu‘tazilite thought is the endeavor to change the Sharee‘ah (Islamic law) rulings that are indisputably established in the Quran and the Sunnah (Prophetic tradition), such as the prescribed punishment for apostasy, the obligation of Jihaad, the general prescribed punishments, divorce, inheritance and Hijaab.
We advise the questioner to read literature that exposes their corrupt beliefs so that he may understand them and refute their allegations and arguments if he is qualified to do so. Otherwise, If this is beyond his ability , then it would be sufficient for him to disassociate himself from them, and this was the same method followed by Ibn ‘Umar . Forsaking them is the best remedy for them until they repent.
        Allaah Knows best.

The Mu‘tazilah - Their Beliefs and the New Mu‘tazilah

          Fatwa Date : Rabee' Al-Awwal 21, 1433 / 14-2-2012

          Question

          Who are the Mu‘tazilah?

          Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

They were called the Mu‘tazilah (literally in Arabic "those who forsook the group") because Waasil ibn ‘Ataa’ forsook the session of Al-Hasan Al-Basri . Waasil was of the opinion that the one who commits a grave major sin like adultery and drinking alcohol is neither a believer nor a disbeliever in the worldly life. Rather, such a person is in a middle rank between these two. He is like a traveler between two towns who cannot be attributed to either of them. However, in the Hereafter he would be doomed forever in Hell if he does not repent. It is also said that they were called Mu’tazilah because they made it obligatory to boycott and detach oneself from those who commit grave major sins.
They based their school of thought upon five foundations, which are:
          1. Tawheed: By Tawheed they mean the negation of the Attributes of Allaah. They said that the Attributes are not something other than the Self because this— according to their view— would lead to claiming the existence of many eternal beings (other than Allaah The Almighty). Therefore, they negated the fact that the believers would see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection. They said that the Quran was created and many other incorrect theories.
          2. Justice: They mean that Allaah The Almighty does not create the deeds of the slaves or want corruption; rather, it is the slaves who create their deeds by the ability which Allaah The Almighty made in them. They also said that Allaah The Almighty does not order something except what He wants and does not forbid except what He dislikes. They were not guided to differentiate between His Legislative Will and Universal Will. Had they been guided to this difference, they would have known that the Universal Will of Allaah The Almighty entailed the existence of disbelief and corruption for some wisdom that He knows and He does not will them by His Legislative Will. There are differences between the two Wills. One of the important differences is that Universal Will is not accompanied by love whilst the Legislative Will is. Allaah The Almighty does not want something to be done by virtue of His legislative Will unless He loves it.
          3. Promise and threat: They mean that Allaah The Almighty rewards the good doer and punishes the evildoer but He does not forgive the one who commits a grave major sin. His justice necessitates not forgiving the one who commits grave major sins. Accordingly, the Mu‘tazilah denied intercession in the Hereafter for those who commit grave major sins.
          4. The one between two ranks: They refer to the one who commits a grave major sin as previously mentioned.
          5. Enjoining good and forbidding evil: They mean the obligation to do so. On the basis of this foundation, they advocated the obligation to rebel against the ruler if he deviates from the right path even if his act is not plain disbelief.
One of the principles of the Mu‘tazilah is to wholly depend on reason and to give it precedence over Sharee‘ah (Islamic law) texts in issues of creed and others. Saying that the authentic Sharee‘ah text contradicts reason is a false claim. Rather, Sharee‘ah and reason never contradict each other. In case of confusion, one should give precedence to the Sharee‘ah text over reason because the text reached us from an infallible man (the Prophet ).
          Allaah Knows best.

            Question

Assalamu Alaikum, Why is that the "Golden Age of muslims" which muslims claim is actually a Mu'tazilite period who are described as heretics by Ahlus-Sunnah?.

            Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Some ''Muslim thinkers'' spread the idea that the ideology of Mu'tazilah (a deviant sect) was founded in the Golden Age. It might be that they did so because the Mu'tazilah tried to counteract the philosophers and debated with them using rational evidences. The Mu'tazilah did so in fact, however, since their belief was (i.e. the Mu'tazilah) based on principles which had no relation whatsoever with Islam, they did not really succeed in counteracting the philosophers, on the contrary, they were affected by some of their ideas. Indeed Ibn Taymiyyah said about the Mu'tazilah: "They neither supported Islam nor succeeded in counteracting the philosophers."
Therefore, it is not permissible to spread the statement which you mentioned in the question as this may lead to deceiving the common Muslim messes and leading them to believe that the ideology of the Mu'tazilah is correct, and this is undoubtedly very serious.
There is no doubt that the Golden Age for our Muslim nation was the era of the four caliphs, may Allaah be pleased them, as it was the era when the nation achieved great developments in all fields.
            Allaah Knows best.

Afghanistan2010 ....these sites you're quoting from are not trustworthy because they come from deviant Wahhabi sect.

Islamweb does "Taajassum"; which is Anthropomorphism and claim that God sits Above his Throne like something creaated.

              Question
WHERE IS ALLAH ON THE EARTH OR IN THE SKY, OR EVERY WHERE?

              Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and Blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The Sunnites (AHL-AL SUNNAH WA AL-JAMA’A) believe that Almighty Allah is above his Arsh (the throne). His Arsh is above the skies. Allah, the exalted is above every thing. The Prophet’s Companions, their successors, and their immediate followers have unanimously agreed that Almighty Allah, be He Exalted, is far from imperfection. He is above the skies, above His Arsh with His Holyself, separate from His creation. Some groups do not legalize the question: Where is Allah? But, it is permissible to ask such a question, as it is. In the sound Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim from Muawiyah Bin Al-Hakam said: “I had a maid-servant who tended goats by the side of Uhud and Jawwaniya. One day I happened to pass that way and found that a wolf had carried a goat from her flock. I am after all a man from the posterity of Adam. I felt sorry as they (human beings) feel sorry. So I slapped her. I came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and felt (this act of mine) as something grievous. I said: Messenger of Allah, should I not grant her freedom? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Bring her to me. So I brought her to him. He said to her: Where is Allah? She said: He is in the heaven (and gestured towards the sky). He said: Who am I? She said: You are the Messenger of Allah. He said: Grant her freedom, she is a believing woman”. If you desire to know more about this subject, you may refer to these books. 1 – AL-ULU ( FOR IMAM – AL - ZAHBI). 2 – USOOL – EATIAD –AHL - AL - SUNNAH – WAL – JAMA’A (FOR IMAM AL-LALKAI ). 3 – AT-TAWHEED ( IBN KHUZAIMA). 4 – AL - IBANAH (FOR IMAM ABKARI). 5 – AL-TAWHEED (FOR IBN ABDUL BARR).

              Allah knows best.
To say something is "Above" something is implying that it has finite attributes like location.

Which means this Wahhabi sect is deviant and thinks like Hindus that God is like a human being.

Ibn Taymiyyah's views are said to be against the mainstream Sunni views according to the majority of Sunni Scholars, so he cannot be taken as credible.

The position of the majority of this Ummas scholars, both past and present, with regards to Imam Ibn Taymiyya (Allah have mercy on him) is that they respect him as a scholar and acknowledge his works, but disagree with certain views of his wherein he chose to go against the mainstream understanding of the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah Wa al-jamaah. This viewpoint is held by most of the contemporary scholars, both from the Indian Subcontinent and the Arab and Muslim world.

I swear by Allah, there is no God beside him and that Muhammad is his slave and Messenger, your beliefs are corrupt, this sect is corrupt there are no doubts, you can always argue with wahabiyah, you will also accuse Darul Uloom Deoband of being wahabis,as long as it does not suit your opinion you can black mark them.

It is an authentic belief of the believers :

Ibn Jarir At-Tabari (d. 310 H.) said: “and His saying {Adh-Dhahir}, He is saying: And He is dhahir over everything below Him, and He is High above everything, nothing is higher than Him. {Al-Batin} He is saying: and He is the batin of everything, nothing is nearer to anything than Him, as He said: {And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein} [50:16].” (2)

At-Tabari says in the Tafsir of that ayah [50:16] : “With knowledge of what his own self whispers to him.”

Ibn Abi Zamanin (d. 399 H.) said: “ Adh-Dhahir is the High above everything He created, and Al-Batin is His inward knowledge of His creation (i.e His knowledge of the hidden), {And He is All-Knower of every thing} [Al Hadid: 3].” (3)

                    Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

al-Shawkani (may Allah's Mercy be upon him) said in his book 'al-Badr al-Tali': 'In 1125 A.H. Our Imam (of Yemen) received two good books from Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul Wahhab . One of the two books contains research works of Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab about guiding people to monotheism and leading them away from polytheism done by those who believe in help of tomb dwellers. For sure, they are good works that are based on the Qur'an and Sunnah' .
al-Sheikh Muhammad Bashir al-Sahwani , an Indian scholar of Hadith in his book 'Sianat ul-Insan (Maintenance of a human being) said: 'It is not known that al-Sheikh (i.e. Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul Wahhab (may Allah's Mercy be upon him) had some special opinion that is not agreed upon among Muslims nor among Ahl-al-Sunnah wal-Jama'a. No doubt that all his opinions concerning monotheism of Names and Attributes of Allah as well as worshipping Him are agreed upon among Muslims with the exception of followers of al-Mu'tazila, al-Jahmiyyah and worshippers of tombs. Opinions of Ibn 'Abdull Wahhab constitute part and parcel of what Prophets and Messengers and Revealed Books agreed upon' .
al-Jibirti , an Egyptian historian, praised al-Sheikh and his sons and followers in the book of 'Ajaeb al-Athar'.
Many just scholars as No'man Khir al-Deen al-Amawi , Mahmood Shukri al-Aloosi , the prince Shakeeb Arsalaan and others praised al-Sheikh Muhammad Ibn 'Abdul Wahhab and his sons since they read their good books.
                    Allah knows best.

This shows they are followers of Wahhabiyah and are not actual Sunnis

                        (Fatwa: 994/834=B-1429)

Najdi is called one who is attributed to a great reformer and scholar Hadhrat Shiakh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab Najdi This great reformist was accused of many things; therefore the opponents attribute us to him for irritating us. It is useful to study the book ?Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab ke khilaf propaganda aur Hindustan ke Ulam-e- Haq per uske asaraat? written by Hadhrat Maulana Manzoor Nomani.
                        (2) If you study the ?Dastoorat? of Jamat Islami Hind, then you will come to know that many of their thoughts are deviated from the right path. Also, if you study the book: ?Khilafat w Mulukia? you will know how misleading thoughts they have about the companions of the Prophet

I consider Mutazillah muslims, I admire their emphasis on personal responsibility and agree with their argument about the Quran being created and their position about the sinful muslim (fasiq).

These are very minor differences, none of these beliefs makes one kafir.

To me their definition of Tawhid makes more sense than some people who take things literally ascribing human attributes to God such as occupying space, having hands etc. In the matters of Tawhid I am more fond of Sufi stance on Tawhid, theirs is the only definition of Tawhid which appeals to me.

One thing I don't like about the Mutazillah is their over reliance on reason. Reason, logic, rationalism all are limited. Anything which is product of the mind is false based on assumption, preseption and so on.

That is somewhat of an oversimplication of Mutazilah views of reason/logic, bu we can discuss that. Whatever else you stated is very sound.
