My point is that confused, identity starved, socially struggling second(most) and third(a few) generation expat pashtoons, who have rarely seen watan, and those with such children have a tendency to go for what they think is the ticket back to a place of belonging so they can get a handle on life.

Well after looking around the path of least resistence is the wahabi/islamic religious bandwagon. It is a easy choice as it keeps the parents relaxed, old paradigms are not shattered and the illusion that one is a pashtoon remains intact. Interactions with others in such dilemmas on forums like this is the main source of reinforing this illusion.

The reality is the expat second generation is less than 1% of the pashtoon youth world wide (majority live in watan). Those in watan, their needs are different, they want relevance in the world, oppurtunity, progress and such. They being 99% will shape the future pashtoon identity, not you. The best way to serve them is to join them and help them in their quest, not drag them to your lost cause.

Help them get modern education, modern ideas, science, technology, social global norms, commerce, competition and such. Not drag them in the darkness of medieval folklore, for it may cure your pangs of anxiety, it will only increase theirs.
