    QUR’AN

    Qur’an is a book:

Some people here are arguing that whether Qur’an is a book or not. Of course, Qur’an is a book. Qur’an says from it start “ZALIKAL KITABU LA RAIBA FEHI”………This is a book there is no doubt in it.

    Topic Wise Discussion:

I agree with those members in whom opinion there should be topic wise discussion as Qur’an touches every aspect of life but the emphasis is on “TAUHID” only.

    Scholars:

Some members are of the view that only scholars can discuss Qur’an and we should not touch such subject. I don’t agree with such members as first of all if there is a scholar among the members you don’t know him/her. Secondly if we don’t have any then we cannot discuss Qur’an? No.
Qur’an is for the guidance of all human being. By discussing here we can learn from each other. We can have a better understand regarding the belief and knowledge of our members about the religion. May be, we are not on the same wavelength and there may be a big difference of opinion, still we should respect the others’ opinion and explain ours in a good and congenial manner.

    What Qur’an Says About Itself:

    (7. It is He Who has sent down to you the Book. In it are verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book; and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they follow (only) that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah, and seeking its Ta'wil, but none knows its Ta'wil except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.'' And none receive admonition except men of understanding.) (8. (They say): "Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.'') (9. "Our Lord! Verily, it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day about which there is no doubt. Verily, Allah never breaks His Promise.'')
    How to Understand the Qur’an:

For the understanding of the Qur’an the knowledge of Ahadit is a must. Without knowing the ahadit one can not understand

Mahzala my post was not directed at you, you have been respectful if in disagreement.

It seems that emotions have subsided enough for us to discuss. Feel free to bring your own tangents on any topic, I don't have any specific questions. I want to discuss many topics. I want Muslims and non-muslims alike to read the Quran, there are so many misunderstandings around it.

Here are some topics, I'll add more later:

40:32-35, this confuses me. Can anyone clarify the situation?

30:1-5, did this prophesy occur? Citation please.

It seems the idea of the unconscious is prevalent in the Quran e.g. 20:6-8. Why didn't muslims then develope a science of it, or did they?

Given 4:94-96 how can anyone as a good muslim treat me badly when I always state that mine is the path of peace and have proven it on many occasions? Why don't scholars go out and declare fatwas regarding the peaceloving disbelievers? This part of your religion affects me, and I see nothing but hypocrisy in the muslim world regarding this. Further the reason for this is also stated therein I.e. worldly gain. How can you be a followers of an honurable path when you mistreat nonbelievers if you feel the grips of power leaving you albeit peacfully?

It discusses the fact that people of Egypt have disbelieved in prophets and their message and that they were misguided because allah wills some to be misguided while others are rightly guided. This is because Allah knows of your intention and therefore if he knows that you will is evil, then you will be of the evil in this world, a disbeliever. But if you will is good, then he will guide you to his straight path.

The misguided will be raised at the day of mutual calling ( day of ressurection and they will have no escape ).

30:1-5, did this prophesy occur? Citation please.
              Yes, it did occur.

Foretelling the Victory of the Romans

These Ayat were revealed about the victory of Sabur, the king of Persia, over Ash-Sham (Greater Syria), the adjoining partisan states of the Arabian Peninsula, and the outlying regions of the land of the Romans. Heraclius, the emperor of the Romans, was forced to flee to Constantinople where he was besieged for a lengthy period. Then Heraclius regained the upper hand. Imam Ahmad recorded that Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, commented on this Ayah:
              ﴿ الم - غُلِبَتِ الرُّومُ - فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ ﴾
(Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land,) He said, "They were defeated and then they were victorious.'' He said, "The idolators wanted the Persians to prevail over the Romans, because they were idol worshippers, and the Muslims wanted the Romans to prevail over the Persians, because they were People of the Book. This was mentioned to Abu Bakr, who mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah . The Messenger of Allah said:
              «أَمَا إِنَّهُمْ سَيَغْلِبُون»
(They will certainly prevail.) Abu Bakr mentioned this to the idolators, and they said, "Set a time limit for that, and if we prevail, we will get such and such; and if you prevail, you will get such and such.'' So he set a limit of five years, and they (the Romans) did not prevail. Abu Bakr mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah and he said:
              «أَلَا جَعَلْتَهَا إِلَى دُونَ أُرَاهُ قَالَ: الْعَشْرِ »
(Why do you not make it less than) ﴿I (the narrator) think he meant less than ten﴾. Sa`id bin Jubayr said: "Bid` means less than ten.'' Then the Romans were victorious, and he said, "That is what Allah said:
(Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. In Bid`i years. The decision of the matter, before and after is only with Allah. And on that day, the believers will rejoice -- with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.) This was also recorded by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i. At-Tirmidhi said: "Hasan Gharib.''

Abu `Isa At-Tirmidhi recorded that Niyar bin Mukram Al-Aslami said: "When the following Ayat were revealed:
              ﴿ الم - غُلِبَتِ الرُّومُ - فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ- فِي بِضْعِ سِنِينَ لِلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِن بَعْدُ ﴾
(Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. In Bid` years.) on the day they were revealed, the Persians were prevailing over the Romans. The Muslims wanted the Romans to prevail over them (the Persians), because they were both people who followed a Book. Concerning this Allah said:
              ﴿ وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ - بِنَصْرِ اللَّهِ يَنصُرُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ﴾
(And on that day, the believers will rejoice -- with the help of Allah. He helps whom He wills, and He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.) The Quraysh, on the other hand, wanted the Persians to prevail, because neither of them were people who followed a Book and neither of them believed in the Resurrection. When Allah revealed these Ayat, Abu Bakr went out proclaiming throughout Makkah:
              ﴿ الم - غُلِبَتِ الرُّومُ - فِي أَدْنَى الْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ- فِي بِضْعِ سِنِينَ لِلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِن بَعْدُ﴾
(Alif Lam Mim. The Romans have been defeated. In the nearest land, and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. In Bid` years.) Some of the Quraysh said to Abu Bakr: `This is (a bet) between us and you. Your companion claims that the Romans will defeat the Persians within three to nine years, so why not have a bet on that between us and you' Abu Bakr said, `Yes.' This was before betting had been forbidden. So, Abu Bakr and the idolators made a bet, and they said to Abu Bakr: `What do you think, Bid` means something between three and nine years, so let us agree on the middle.' So they agreed on six years. Then six years passed without the Romans being victorious, so the idolators took what they had bet with Abu Bakr. When the seventh year came and the Romans were finally victorious over the Persians, the Muslims rebuked Abu Bakr for agreeing on six years. He said: `Because Allah said: "In Bid` years.''' At that time, many people became Muslim.'' This is how it was narrated by At-Tirmidhi, then he said, "This is a Hasan Hadith.''
It seems the idea of the unconscious is prevalent in the Quran e.g. 20:6-8. Why didn't muslims then develope a science of it, or did they?
A science of knowing the ghaib which is only known by allah? Obviously, human beings cannot do that. Because knowledge of ghaib is only available to Allah. Claiming to know the unkown or to forsee the future is prohibted in Islam and people are beheaded for making such claims.

(And if you speak aloud, then verily, He knows the secret and that which is yet more hidden.) This means that He Who revealed this Qur'an, has also created the high heavens and the earth and He knows that which is secret and what is even more hidden. As Allah says,
(Say: "It has been sent down by Him Who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'') ﴿25:6﴾ `Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas said,
(He knows the secret and that which is yet more hidden.) "The secret is what the son of Adam hides within himself, and
(that which is yet more hidden. ) is the deeds of the son of Adam, which are hidden before he does them. Allah knows all of that. His knowledge encompasses that which has passed and that which is in the future and it is one, complete knowledge. In this regard, all of the creatures are as one soul to Him. That is the meaning of His statement,
Given 4:94-96 how can anyone as a good muslim treat me badly when I always state that mine is the path of peace and have proven it on many occasions? Why don't scholars go out and declare fatwas regarding the peaceloving disbelievers? This part of your religion affects me, and I see nothing but hypocrisy in the muslim world regarding this. Further the reason for this is also stated therein I.e. worldly gain. How can you be a followers of an honurable path when you mistreat nonbelievers if you feel the grips of power leaving you albeit peacfully?
And for your information, the ayat have a relevance to particular matters:

Imam Ahmad recorded that `Ikrimah said that Ibn `Abbas said, "A man from Bani Sulaym, who was tending a flock of sheep, passed by some of the Companions of the Prophet and said Salam to them. They said (to each other), `He only said Salam to protect himself from us.' Then they attacked him and killed him. They brought his sheep to the Prophet , and this Ayah was revealed,
              ﴿يَـأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ﴾
              (O you who believe!), until the end of the Ayah.'' At-Tirmidhi recorded this in his (chapter on) Tafsir, and said, "This Hadith is Hasan, and it is also reported from Usamah bin Zayd.'' Al-Hakim also recorded it and said, "Its chain is Sahih, but they did not collect it.'' Al-Bukhari recorded that Ibn `Abbas commented;
              ﴿وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَـمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِناً﴾
              (and say not to anyone who greets you: "You are not a believer;''), "A man was tending his sheep and the Muslims caught up with him. He said, `As-Salamu `Alaykum.' However, they killed him and took his sheep. Allah revealed the Ayah;
              ﴿وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَـمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِناً تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَوةِ الدُّنْيَا﴾
(And say not to anyone who greets you: "You are not a believer; seeking the perishable goods of the worldly life).'' Ibn `Abbas said; "The goods of this world were those sheep.'' And he recited,
(Peace) Imam Ahmad recorded that Al-Qa`qa` bin Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad narrated that his father `Abdullah bin Abi Hadrad said, "The Messenger of Allah sent us to (the area of) Idam. I rode out with a group of Muslims that included Abu Qatadah, Al-Harith bin Rab`i and Muhallam bin Juthamah bin Qays. We continued on until we reached the area of Idam, where `Amr bin Al-Adbat Al-Ashja`i passed by us on his camel. When he passed by us he said Salam to us, and we did not attack him. Because of some previous problems with him, Muhallam bin Juthamah killed him and took his camel. When we went back to the Messenger of Allah and told him what had happened, a part of the Qur'an was revealed about us,
(O you who believe! When you go (to fight) in the cause of Allah), until,
(Well-Aware).'' Only Ahmad recorded this Hadith. Al-Bukhari recorded that Ibn `Abbas said that the Messenger of Allah said to Al-Miqdad,
              «إِذَا كَانَ رَجُلٌ مُؤْمِنٌ يُخْفِي إِيمَانَهُ مَعَ قَوْمٍ كُفَّارٍ فَأَظْهَرَ إيمَانَهُ فَقَتَلْتَهُ، فَكَذلِكَ كُنْتَ أَنْتَ تُخْفِي إِيمَانَكَ بِمَكَّةَ مِنْ قَبْل»
(You killed a believing man who hid his faith with disbelieving people, after he had announced his faith to you. Remember that you used to hide your faith in Makkah before.) Al-Bukhari recorded this shorter version without a complete chain of narrators. However a longer version with a connected chain of narrators has also been recorded. Al-Hafiz Abu Bakr Al-Bazzar recorded that Ibn `Abbas said, "The Messenger of Allah sent a military expedition under the authority of Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad and when they reached the designated area, they found the people had dispersed. However, a man with a lot of wealth did not leave and said, `I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.' Yet, Al-Miqdad killed him, and a man said to him, `You killed a man after he proclaimed: "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. By Allah I will mention what you did to the Prophet .' When they went back to the Messenger of Allah, they said, `O Messenger of Allah! Al-Miqdad killed a man who testified that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.' He said,
              «ادْعُوا لِيَ الْمِقْدَادَ، يَا مِقْدَادُ أَقَتَلْتَ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ: لَا إِلهَ إلَّا اللهُ، فَكَيْفَ لَكَ بِلَا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللهُ غَدًا؟»
              (Summon Al-Miqdad before me. O Miqdad! Did you kill a man who proclaimed, "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah" What would you do when you face, "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah tomorrow") Allah then revealed;
              ﴿يَـأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَـمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِناً تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَوةِ الدُّنْيَا فَعِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَغَانِمُ كَثِيرَةٌ كَذلِكَ كُنتُمْ مِّن قَبْلُ فَمَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ﴾
(O you who believe! When you go (to fight) in the cause of Allah, verify (the truth), and say not to anyone who greets you: "You are not a believer;'' seeking the perishable goods of the worldly life. There are much more profits and booties with Allah. Even as he is now, so were you yourselves before till Allah conferred on you His Favors, therefore, be cautious in discrimination). The Messenger of Allah said to Al-Miqdad,
              «كَانَ رَجُلٌ مُؤْمِنٌ يُخْفِي إِيمَانَهُ مَعَ قَوْمٍ كُفَّارٍ فَأَظْهَرَ إيمَانَهُ فَقَتَلْتَهُ، فَكَذَلِكَ كُنْتَ أَنْتَ تُخْفِي إِيمَانَكَ بِمَكَّةَ مِنْ قَبْل»
(He was a believing man who hid his faith among disbelieving people, and he announced his faith to you, but you killed him, although you used to hide your faith before, in Makkah.)'' Allah's statement,
(There is much more benefit with Allah.) means, better than what you desired of worldly possessions which made you kill the one who greeted you with the Salam and pronounced his faith to you. Yet, you ignored all this and accused him of hypocrisy, to acquire the gains of this life. However, the pure wealth with Allah is far better than what you acquired. Allah's statement,
(so were you yourselves before, till Allah conferred on you His Favors.) means, beforehand, you used to be in the same situation like this person who hid his faith from his people. We mentioned the relevant Hadiths above. Allah said,
(And remember when you were few and were reckoned weak in the land). `Abdur-Razzaq recorded that Sa`id bin Jubayr commented about Allah's statement,
(so were you yourselves before), "You used to hide your faith, just as this shepherd hid his faith.'' Allah said,
(therefore, be cautious in discrimination), then said,
(Allah is Ever Well-Aware of what you do.) and this part of the Ayah contains a threat and a warning, as Sa`id bin Jubayr stated.
              (95. Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home), except those who are disabled, and those who strive hard and fight in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred in grades those who strive hard and fight with their wealth and their lives above those who sit (at home). Unto each, Allah has promised good (Paradise), but Allah has preferred those who strive hard and fight, above those who sit (at home), by a huge reward.) (96. Degrees of (higher) grades from Him, and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.)

30:1-5, did this prophesy occur? Citation please.
Yes, it occur. First Persians defeated Romans in lowest lands - palestine and jordan (Area around dead sea are really lowest in the world) and took from them very dear artifacts, among them was fragment of real cross, considered by christians (Rum, i.e. byzantines were christian) as holiest thing. But Then Heraclius, byzantine emperor defeated Persians and drove them out of palestine, and also recaptured real cross and returned it to Hierusalem, i.e. Quds.

Note: There is no room for opinion, ridiculing or personal remarks in this thread. When a question is posed to clear misconceptions or explain Islamic concepts, it is a responsibility on us, as followers of the religion, to represent it in a manner befitting with the authentic sources and explain only what has been asked leaving little room for an attack on a person's character which has little to do with the question at hand. There are ways of explaining and correcting mistakes as there are volumes on the way in which the message has spread to this day. If your comment does not comply with this note, it will be edited/deleted without notification.

What is this? This is a discussion, all opinions are welcome. I am sure many here would like to hear his side. I know you said you dont want to learn nor teach anything from/to anyone which is a very arogant statement but what else can I expect from an atheist.

So, Mahmud, go ahead please give us your side because the humble ones are here to learn and contribute.

I think Pi is well aware of my competence in this subject matter therefore the debate might not be as fruitful for whatever motivation he has intended here.

                          Shamla, good post.

I wanted clarification on whether God commanded Joseph to say there will be no prophets after him.

As for the unconscious, it is something we can not know. Rather we can see its effects. It seems the Quran speaks of it in such terms.

As for the case of the disbelievers, how do you reconcile the next verse that says: Even as he is now, so were you yourselves before till Allah conferred on you His Favors, therefore, be cautious in discrimination).

It seems your position is that he who greets you with peace is a believer who hides his belief. That verse seems to contradict that view.

Thanks everyone for info on the Romans.

As for Mahmud, his opinion is of course welcome. I don't want to engage him because of our previous personal experiences. Namely his lack of character regarding personal matters and respect for interpersonal relationships. I didn't want to divulge that but he claimed I have ulterior motives.

To learn from such a person is not worth to interact with him.

You are misinterpreting the verse in your own favour.

This verse doesn't apply to you since you have already made it clear that you do not believe in Allah, the day of the Resurrection...and the warning for disbelief is clear in the Qur'an. If someone says they are muslim, on the other hand, then this verse applies to those who call the said person, a non believer.

We are not hypocrites. You are just ignorant!

We have never had any personal experiences; MSN messenger and asking me questions I refused to answer is not a "personal experience". I respect only things which are worthy of respect.

Feel free to divulge anything, I'm as transparent as can be.

As for the subject matter, I'll be glad to reply.
