Your an idiot saying that Persians invented the word or at least "gave" the word afghan to the afghans. Numerous noted scholars say that the name Afghan evidently derives from Sanskrit Ashvaka or Ashvakan, the Assakenoi of Arrian. This view was propounded by scholars like Dr Christian Lassen, Dr J. W. McCrindle, M. V. de Saint Martin, Élisée Reclus etc. In Sanskrit, word ashva means "horse", and ashvaka (Prakrit assaka) means "horseman" , "horse people" as well as "horse breeders". Pre-Christian times knew the people of eastern Afghanistan as Ashvakas (horsemen), since they raised a fine breed of horses and had a reputation for providing expert cavalrymen.

The Greek historian Herodotus mentioned a people called Pactyans, living on the eastern frontier of the Persian Satrapy Arachosia as early as the 1st century BCE, but it remains unknown as to what connection they have with Pashtuns.

The "Makhzan-e Afghān" by Nematullah, written in 1612 CE at the Mughal court in India, traces the Afghan or Pakhtun origin from Abraham. It states that King Saul had a son Irmia (Jeremia), who had a son called Afghana. Upon the death of King Saul, Afghana was raised up by King David, and was later promoted to the chief command of the army during the reign of King Solomon. The progeny of this Afghana multiplied numerously, and came to be called Bani-Israel. In the sixth century BCE, Bakhtunnasar, or Nebuchadnezzar king of Babil, attacked Judah and exiled the progeny of Afghana to Ghor located in the center of what is now Afghanistan. In course of time, the exiled community came to be addressed as Afghan after the name of their ancestor, and the country got its name as Afghanistan.

    H. W. Bellew, in his book An Enquiry into the Ethnography of Afghanistan, believes that the name Afghan derives from the Latin term Alban, used by Armenians as Alvan or Alwan, which refers to mountaineers, and in the case of transliterated Armenian characters, would be pronounced as Aghvan.

There are many claims. You can't pick one claim and tell people your claim is the most accurate and everyone should just believe in it. The word Afghan has ancient roots, it's not a Persian word at all. The word holds historical grounds.

Dear baluch brother: I dont mind when was created the word "afghan". I dont mind if pashtuns are aryans, jews or hindus. My point is: the modern term "afghan" is used by persianspeakers, but pashtospeakers say "awghanistan". "-stan" is persian and means land, ok? Thats a fact.

            your twisting things.
Sanskrit used to write Avghan and since Pashto does not have the V sound, Pashtuns would say awghan. but this is false. we always said "Afghan." because we have the Fay sound.

The hassle is that this guy is a Tajik fascist. His dream is to nuke Pashtuns. He hates Pashtuns with a passion. His life work is to defame the Pashtuns. He is a very active person in his goal.

Because the non Pashtuns have accepted the Afghan identity, he is feeling belittled that farsiwans have accepted a pshtun identity because in his mind Pashtuns are a lower sub human people. He cant accept a fact that his farsiwan people have accepted something(in their opinion) below them.

This is his beef with the term Afghan so he is trying to make Afghan a Persian invention so he does not feel belittled and feels that Persians are this "holy superior people"

The Europeans wrote down Ojibwa for the first time but that does not mean Europeans gave that name to the Ojibwa tribe, the Ojibwa tribe called themselves that. Just like when the Afghans and the English met for the first time. The Pashtuns called the English engrazon and the English called the Af-gh-ans Afgans because they could not say the "Gh". Your an Idiot.

mate some of u also have signatures like persians called us afghans indian called us pathans and we call ourselves as pashtun..pashtun is the best word .. afghan is so old and was referred by persians for the frst tym so we have to accept it that afghan is a persian word. the reason is at that time there was only persians and arabs who were famous scholars while other ethnicities were nt tht prominent in terms of writing things down. ..
pathan is also not an indian term if thats the case ,.

Afghans and Afghanistan have 4000 year old history. The origin of the word Afghan has hundreds of claims. What you're doing is picking the most "offensive" claim that will most likely have the pashtuns spark on you. The pashtuns are not the best people to mess with.
do u even know what u r talking abt .. even true persians(not tajiks or fake iranians) dnt have 4000 years old ..where did u com up with this bs terms.. man i dont know do u have ur own wikpedia britanica or selfmade google..dnt make bs ....
