There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

India like Pakistan supports the current NATO war/occupation and Karzai regime. India also supported the Soviet occupation/war. Thats the historical record. Which majority of Afghans are you speaking of? As of this moment both India and Pakistan are interfering and supporting the NATO occupation of Afghanistan.Originally posted by KGODB View PostIndias involvement didnt begin in 2001. Through Pakistan's supporting of the NATO war in Afghanistan- an act that has resulted in mass civilian casualties, nations like India are propping themselves up in Kabul and the North- interfering in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. This is how Pakistan is interfering in Afghanistan, by giving critical/lethal supply lines to NATO to prop up the NATO war/Karzai regime.
When one cuts all the pretense out, Pakistan allowed the NATO war/occupation to take place in Afghanistan, and by doing so, enabled the propping up of an illegal Karzai regime in Kabul.
This then has allowed India (who has a track record of supporting wars/occupation of Afghanistan) and several other nations who support the NATO war in Afghanistan to increase their presence in Kabul.
This is Pakistan's logically how Pakistan has interfered in Afghanistan- any other way that sidesteps/ignores or even condones/supports Pakistan support of the NATO war/occupation of Afghanistan is mere distortion that is usually not supported by facts.Last edited by Shah-i-Kot; 05-24-2012, 10:49 PM.

OK, in the words of St. Paul, lets move past the milk and get to the meat. I wanted to see the argument unfold and learn, but saw little to really validate either Havi’s argument or the other side’s. Interesting factoids emerged such as Havi’s referring Pashtun inclusion in movements in the initial period before partition and KGODB reminding the sister about the special place of Islam in Afghanistan with solid examples. Otherwise, I didn’t learn much except remind myself of the algorithm that underlies this discussion.
Usually the algorithm is: 1) Someone throws down the gauntlet (e.g. Pakis speak half Pashto and half Urdu, Afghans should be grateful they had refuge, etc etc) à 2) Initiate history at 1947 and build an argument that Pashtuns were held captive against their will as demonstrated by the treatment meted out to Khodaay Khidmatgaar/Sorkh Posh (no facts figures or data is presented) à 3) The Durand line is discussed in the context of legalities (albeit poorly and without all evidences considered) and Pakistanis calling foul on AbdurRahman’s moves à Afghan side answers saying AbdurRahman was actually strong armed (not realizing that making this claim undoes the argument of having been eternally autonomous) and forget pre AbdurRahman history à4) The argument crescendos over who are the “real” Pashtuns à 5) Despite the fact that the discussion is divisive in the initial we are reminded that fifth column members are utilizing the discussion to divide brothers (unwittingly supporting the argument that a ban on the discussion might very well be the solution) à Videos of Jiggalos are posted by both sides to drive home the point over who is actually a bigger prostitute
Lets make the discussion manageable. The following points need to be addressed:
1. NDS and the ISI
- Who is worse for Pashtuns?
- Is there a dramatic difference in their function and history?
- Who are they and what do they stand for?
- What is the ethnic composition?
2. Pakistani Army and Afghan Army
- Same questions as above
3. The artificial state argument
- What is an artificial state?
- What is a nation state for that matter?
- What makes Pakistan or Afghanistan either an artifical state or a nation state?
- While it did not apply to the autonomous Kingdom of Afghanistan in the 1700s and perhaps to an extent in Amanullah’s time; does this argument survive Karzai?
- Can we find similarity in the early creation of the Pakistani state and the Post Bonn Afghan state? If so, then perhaps the artificial state argument ought to be discarded.
4. Why do they do what they do?
- Why does Pakistan pursue strategic depth (we can certainly leave the efficacy of the policy out as military analysts surmise it would fail in the event of a full frontal Indian assault)?
- What does the Post Bonn Afghan state have in mind for its strategy? If strategic depth is idiotic, then is the already failed “strategic balancing” promoted by Karzai lay the basis for stability (or is history repeating itself ala Daud’s attempt to play off super powers against eachother)?
5. Karzai and Jinnah
- Both wear/wore karakuls (jk), but what about their other similarities and stark differences?
- If similarities prove existent, and to a great extent, then everyone better internalize and reflect on their own arguments against the other side.
6. We can conclude with the Russo Afghan war
- What role did Pakistan have in its inception? If it had a major role in initiating it, lets talk specifics. Lets discuss rural and urban Afghan support by metrics. 7 people in Pakistan may be able to start a war, but 7 people cannot sustain a war of attrition; its physically and psychologically impossible.
- What role did Afghanistan play in its inception?
- What role did the US and Russia play in its inception?
So for the next 24 hours let us focus on 1).
The ISI:
Here is an excellent global security paper on who and what the ISI is and what its origins are:
http://globalsecuritystudies.com/HOLT%20ISI.pdf
The ISI finds its roots in the Kashmir conflict between China, Pakistan, and India. It was an internally created organization launched after the British had left the subcontinent. In the 1970s the organization developed the internal wing under Bhutto and Zia fleshed out this internal wing according to his worldview.
Yet the British did contribute to its design: “The ISI was the brainchild of Australian-born British Army officer, Major General R. Cawthome, then Deputy Chief of Staff in the Pakistan Army
Interestingly enough, the closest thing I can find to an expert commentary on the ethnic composition of the Agency is:
“says Frederic Grare, a South Asia expert and visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He points out that many of the ISI's agents have ethnic and cultural ties to Afghan insurgents, and naturally sympathize with them.”
http://www.cfr.org/pakistan/isi-terrorism-behind-accusations/p11644
A list of the Director Generals and Sub Unit Commanders shows that the organization draws from the divergent ethnic groups. I am sure the argument could be launched that Akhtar AbdurRahman, Durrani, and Ehsan Ul Haq spoke Pashto poorly or not at all and hardly represent the rural Pashtun. This is irrelevent to the discussion because we are talking about ethnicity and not adherence to ethnic stereotypes here.
Another very good paper on the ISI here, by Frost:
http://www.martinfrost.ws/htmlfiles/jan2008/isiinfo.html
The bottom line that emerges out of all of this: The ISI is dedicated to maintaining the survival of the Pakistani state. It will utilize any and all means to ensure the survival of Pakistan and devises strategy based on necessity.
council.smallwarsjournal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1606...
This document shows that Vickery and Cawthorne contributed to both RAW and ISI respectively; indicating that the Indian intelligence organization receives equal criticism of being a “British Creation.”
The NDS
The names Sarwari, Saleh and then the names Spinzada and Nabil show that NDS leadership oscillated between Northern Alliance imbeds and Karzai centric Pashtuns.
The composition of the NDS may reflect the Army composition or it may not… the information is scant:
“If the army splinters as a result of its unbalanced ethnic composition -- Pashtuns represent the majority of the population but a small minority in the army -- this probably would result in inter- and intra-ethnic violence that could rend the nation. A civil war in Afghanistan would have disastrous consequences for the region, particularly neighboring Pakistan.”

There is really not much of a need to discuss who trains, arms, and created the NDS:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/06/06/AR2010060600714.html
Everyone and their mother knows the answer to that question.
Interactions between NDS and ISI?
The common but erroneous starting point for this discussions begins in the Zia Ul Haq era. NDS is a decade old organization. In the mean while Khost Protection Force is trained by the CIA and NDS and penetrates the Durand border in an equivalent manner as the ISI’s own boys.
But the discussion actually needs to be projected back to a bygone era… the era of KHAD, the predecessor organization that had familiar faces. Atmar, mentioned in the article above was not officially NDS but certainly was KGB/KHAD. The fact remains that Najibullah himself did as much tit for tat with the ISI by taking in Zul Fikaar and dissidents that directed proxy warfare against the Pakistani state whilst Najib claimed to want a neutrality policy from Pakistan. So let us not sit here and pretend history initiated in 1990. The world was spinning in its orbit well before that and on the scale of things KHAD and ISI were functioning according antagonistically at the behest of their super power backers.
Why should the rural Pashtun not trust either organization?:
Two pertinent examples are enough:
We have ascertained that the handler for both agencies is the CIA – Military Industrial Complex:
When the handler’s cooperation is exposed, especially by a citizen patriot, that citizen’s life becomes endangered. Take for instance, the exposure that Tribal Reporter Hayatullah Wazir gave to the fact that the missiles that were killing Wazirs were made in the USA:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/taliban/tribal/hayatullah.html
Wazir was brutally killed by the ISI for exposing these hellfire missiles:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5092802.stm
As a prelude to this, the fact that the government was involved in his murder:
https://cpj.org/protests/01ltrs/Pakistan07aug01pl.html
What about the NDS? The ISI sure gets the bad rap here, but in the NDS they have a mirror image Pashtun oppressor and killer. Additionally, a recent main stream media report shows that no one is safe from them either. Here is an example of how they recently harassed one of the family members of the Panjwai massacre during an interview. Human Rights Watch has reported worse than just simple harassment of the Pashtuns, at the hands of the NDS.
Here are the exact words of the Kandahari villager who survived the Bale massacre:
“The only official contact he’d had since his discharge from the hospital was when he was summoned, still wounded, to Kandahar city and interrogated by an officer from Afghanistan’s much-feared intelligence service, the National Directorate of Security.
“That man was a ba-stard,” Naim said. “He accused me of having laid IEDs” – improvised explosive devices, or homemade bombs – “before the massacre to target the American forces.”

**Conclusion: For the average pashtun: ISI = NDS = agency that benefits of largesse of same foreign handler and will protect that handler at the expense of the average man. The cases of Hayatullah of Waziristan and Naim of Panjwaay demonstrate this as two cross border case studies**Last edited by BarakzaiAbdali; 05-25-2012, 12:14 AM."2 crackheads don't become any better or stronger by sharing the same crack pipe." - Greatest PF quote

Regarding Sell out question
You only need to look at the nature of the Pashtun and realise the fact that being called or calling a Sell out by a Pashtun is culture for us.
We call everyone sell outs, even people in our villages who can read and write are called sell outs.
In regards to Afghan Pashtuns viewing Pakistani Pashtuns as sell outs and British agents is quite hilerious, let me confirmed that both sides are just as sell out treacherous nuisences and are as bad as each other.
Neither have Afghan Pashtuns nor Pakistani Pashtuns been sincere to each other.
they are just as rotten to the core as each other.

the "help" is going to come whether people like it or not. its a matter of what countries are honest in their dealings with afghans and which aren't. aid from japan is far more "no strings" than aid from iran, for example. you will hardly find any afghans who have good thoughts about pakistan, but they see india as more of a hands off power. as for nato, most of the countries that matter on earth "support" the war, so what is afghanistan going to do even if the taliban come back to power? not have any relations with these countries because they were pro nato? you don't understand how the world works.
what india did over 20 years ago, no afghan remembers/knows/or cares. hell, on every other street corner in kabul people are selling post cards of massoud and najib. things are not as black and white as you think they are in afghanistan. most people there hate politics and want nothing to do with it. but let me ask you, if indias past and present is an issue then why did the taliban travel to the US to meet with american officials about a pipeline whose main beneficiaries are secular turkmenistan and formerly pro soviet india? the taliban had no issue with where the gas came from and who it goes to, nor did they care that the americans would possibly be involved.Last edited by randolph85; 05-25-2012, 04:22 PM.There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. A Message to Pakistani Pakhtuns
My dear brothers & sisters since we all know that almost all of our neighbours have accused us interfering in their states so if Afghan fellows say the same why we become offensive. We know that our foreign policy have failed and we as civilians have never worried about it, now our civil society is realizing that our state can not survive without a powerful civilian administrative control and we are on the way to get it.
We must realize that without us state can not flourish at all and it is our duty to keep it peaceful for us, we must stop having punjabi phobia because all cultures in the world are equal and i consider it a character weakness. We must seek refuge from Wahibism & Deobandism otherwise there will be no difference between us and satin.
When we engage in a words fight with Afghan fellows they can easily say anything to our state or us but we can not say anything because we are connected with them specifically but u should make them understand that no harm will come from ourside unless a misbehave occurs.
Those want to limit our Pakhtun nationalism to indus have little knowledge regarding our historical expansion from Balkh to Bengal so don't argue with them let them grow up and make your PakhtunWali to grow.فرزانہ بہ گفتارم دیوانہ بہ کردارم

Bengal and other parts beyond the indus are not pashtuns territory, its like saing that the English should claim India again becuase they ruled it for centuries, the only reason that some Afghan pashtuns or any Afghan in general want an unification, is becuase then we can control the territory, so when the goverment wants to centralize and bring change we will not have peopel who will hide in Pakistan and atack Afghanistan again, like what they are doing now. The bigest instability is coused by that, enemys of Afghanistan can easily hide in Pakistan and atck whenever they want, if that area was under Afghan control, the rise of Mujhahids and talibs power would never happend, they could have been dealt more easaly. And Afghanistan would be now a secular and peacefull state.
