It is also very important city to Afghans, majority of afghans that i come across internet whether he/she is tajik or pashtun, have spent few years in peshawer...after which they went to foriegner countries. Many have very sweet memories of the city. It is after After russian invasion, war in afghanistan, that peshawer has become become major pashtun centre. As it is an urban centre so one should'nt expect 100% traditional pashtun enviroment of villages. Still it is very traditional unlike kabul or other cities of pakistan.
Kabul is also important city but has dari enviroment.
Qandahar is pashtun city like peshawer, but it is very small city, as large as DI khan and abbotabad. It is easier for small cities to retain pashtun colour than for very large cities.
So i agree with sultan, due to instable afghanistan, peshawer is curruntly cultural centre of pashtuns.
    Winter capital was Jalalabad.....
And I don't think Peshawar is cultural city of Pahstuns, yes there is a culture but its repsresenting the city not us, I have seen movies from Pakistan Pashtuns they are not representing PAshtun culture, and not to forget the language that you use....
I have Khyber chanel and there is a drama there that my mother sometimes wtches, the peopel are calling maktab "school" LOL and are using OKe and other english words, and sometimes Urdu...

That's not true, some of them are even happy they say that they could get acces to the sea plus Afghanistan would become bigger... And by the way the ones that are against Pakistan pashtuns are mostly also against Pashtuns in Afghanistan

We are the proud Pashtuns of PAKISTAN..We were..and will always be

        Inshallah!!
Calm down, Arooj (btw, I have never met an Afghan Pakhtun with this name, very interesting...)

You are barking but for what reason I dont know

I never said being Pakistani means you cant be Pakhtun. You can be a Pakhtun, a strong nang Pakhtun at that, and still be a proud and loyal Pakistani. I have made that clear. So lets set aside that issue.

My point is very clear. It is fun and cute and sexy to talk about "Lar aw Bar Yaw Afghan", or that "Pakhtuns dont recognize Durand", or that "we are one and the same". Those are empty slogans

When the Pashtun of Pakistan recognizes the Pakistani state and his role and identity within it (as is his/her right), then at that point we as Pashtuns cease being one Kor. We no longer can make that claim. Because a Kor cannot have two Mashers, or two roofs, or two mazhabs or two ways of running the house hold.

Whether this is a bad or good development, I leave it to Pakhtanuh to decide and conclude.

What Im saying is that by being a Pakistani Pakhtun, we are no longer the same, because in being a Pakistani you reject that the two sides of Pakhtuns lands belong to one nation or law.

If thats what you choose to do, then God bless you and I wish you luck, but to us there is no brotherhood. Because our brotherhood is reserved for those within our borders. So to me, the Uzbek from Mazar is my brother over the Pashtun from Quetta who is a proud Pakistani.

And to be honest, I dont have a problem with that. Because what makes an Afghan is the land. That is the narrative that our nation must push. Afghanistan is not a Pashtun land. It was when Afghanistan stretched to the Indus but not anymore

Nothing distinguishes Afghanistan but the land. The land is free. When the British and Russians were debating which Iranian ass cheek belonged to them, and when the British were playing Polo in Peshawar, we were free. And Inshallah we will always be free. We had to amputate some of our limbs to keep the body intact, but the body will always be intact.

This land is a free land, and all those who live within it are blessed. The Uzbek of Bukhara was colonized not the Uzbek of Balkh. The Tajik of Dushanbe was colonized not the Tajik of Badakhshan. The Pashtun of Peshawar was colonized, not the Pashtun of Paktia.

The Pakistani state is a dagger pointed at the heart of Afghanistan, and whether its a Punjabi hand that holds it or one of my Pashtun "brothers" hands that holds it, its irrelevant to me

These are not good examples. Maktab is also an arabic word. You to have understand that spoken langauge is always different from poetry and literature. Each of these english words have fit itselves naturally into pashto or word and have histories behind them. Forexample school, colleges and universities are introduced to pashtuns of KP by british, so your maktab is school for us from very begging.
Tell me what is pashto word for "airport"? Should i use arabic word "mataar" for airport, like maktab. Is there any need to find pashto words for "sim", "mobile" ,"road","T.V", "passport", "battery" etc..and even if you invent replacements for such words , it wont appeal to people to use "mataar" for airport.
So it is cheap attempt of discrediting pashtuns of KP. KP has more dialects then afghanistan and so have more vocubalary words of pashto then afghanistan. E.g in my marwat dialect the word for "kambala" is "kunjarr" and in bannuchi dialect it is "shirak" and so on. So for one word like "monkey" we may have four or five words in different dialects of pashto, swatis use "shado", we use "bezo" and so on. Sadly words of differents dialects are not organized into one.
Feel free to raise alaram when we start using "camel" for "okh", "papa" for "plaar", "pani or water" for "obo" or "chewanti or ant" for "megay".

Inshallah there will be no more confusion soon, as my goal in life is to ensure the Durand line is made a permanent one. Maybe if non Pashtuns of Afghanistan had seen sweet face of Pakhtuns they could accept being in a state with them, but to them Lar Pakhtuns represent Nadir Shahs marauding hordes, or Taliban lackeys driving them out of their own homes

Lar Pashtuns wallah have had a very good time. They have the best of both worlds. They live in Pakistan, act Pakistan, claim Pakistani lifestyle, but they can always rely on their Afghan past to distinguish them and give them self worth

Wazirs and Mehsuds live in Pakistan and have allegiance to Political Agents sent from Islamabad but roll into Afghanistan from time to time to interfere there

Those days are over soon, inshallah

PS: The usage of the term "Afghan" differs. Many Non Pashtuns call themselves Afghans and use it a strict national and civic sense. But many Non Pashtuns, esp older ones, use Afghan strictly for Pashtuns

then which city do you think??
Here is some evidence from wikipedia
"Peshawar is the centre of culture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Its culture has evolved over the years and has been principally influenced
by Ghandhara culture, Pakhtun culture and Hindko culture.Peshawar is the major cultural, educational, political and business center of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa."

you are pointing at our language but do you really know that urdu is our national language???
As far as english in concerned, you ,yourself are using the same language right now!!!!!
what's your view about yourself being a proud afghan...and the other afghan members of "this forum"
(sorry if it hurts someone. Some silly people compelled me say it.)

You just gave the answer, you say cultural center of KHYBER PAKHTUKHWA, that is not cultural center of all Pashtuns, and you also claim that it is been influenced bij indian culture ghandahar culture mixed whith pashtun culture, so basicaly you say yourself peshawar culture is mixed -_-

when I use english I use only english and when I talk pashto I only use pashto, I don't mixe does languages, becuase it sounds stupid.

The Pakistani state is a dagger pointed at the heart of Afghanistan, and whether its a Punjabi hand that holds it or one of my Pashtun "brothers" hands that holds it, its irrelevant to me
Best post from an Afghan. The bold and red parts are the parts i liked most. Though I wish there could be some form of amity between the two sides and the Afghan Pashtun stopped wishing us at the bottom of the Indian ocean.

But then that means no more Pakistan bashing on this site... if you guys have accepted the durrand line and Pakistani Pashtuns et all then theres no reason to fight. The Pakistani Pashtun and Afghan grab a coke together, a cigarette?... hell maybe even do maurijauna together. Anyone? Admin Khan? No?

Arooj Khan is just angry. Of course when you have nearly been bullied into oblivion... no tortured would be a better world... oblivion means end... finish... torture means slow violence or in other words "cooking over a spit."

Pakistani's have been bullied on this forum at every turn. Their Pashtun-ness is doubted. Their cultural capital Peshawar is treated as some Urdu-Punjabi *****house even though 90% population is Pashto speakers and rest is some hindko speakers who even identify as Pashtun. Arts, fashion, music... every Pashtun artist originates from there but all they see is fat women without nang dancing.

Obviously at one point the person is going to blow. This is what has happened with Arooj. She has probably been watching how (before Luffy came) Afghans would gang up on any patriotic Pashtun and start bullying him for fun like vultures against a dying goat. Of course shes going to ask why and become defensive.

Arooj Khan i really have to salute you. It takes real bravery to come up here and argue with people who have been taught they are superior and the Pakistani Pashtun a slave beneath his feet waiting to be liberated from "evil Pakistani oppression." Afghans are really going to enjoy if they come with the same attitude of looking for a fight with everyone in Pakistan.
