  • Ex-spy held by militants demands help – The Express Tribune

“You people are fully aware of the role I played for the nation and my country during my service,” said Imam, reading from a written statement with two masked gunmen behind him. “But if the government of Pakistan does not care for me, I will also not care for it and will expose all its weaknesses.”

    • two masked gunmen behind him and him reading a written statement, yes it sounds like he was talking from his own free will. you fogot to mention he actually said "I am talking from my own free will" and then he look at teh guns pointing at him.

      • conspiracy theory again?.....It wouldn't make sense to kill him if the Taliban were using him to strike the Pakistani establishment if he was willing to expose it....unless of course they're apart of the Pakistani establishment doh.

              • he just threatens that he would expose Pakistan weakness to the Taliban(pakistans enemy). he does not mention anything about paki slaves an he is doing this all under the threat of a gun pointing at him.

                so this proves nothing

                • Actually it proves a lot ....why would they kill him if he would expose Pakistan if they're Pakistan's enemy....I doubt the Taliban would let him live even to finish the video if he said what you say.

that's absurd Khushal ....and also conspiratorial.

Across the line in Waziristan, both the Taliban and their masters are mudering people of my tribe, yet there are those of us who support both.

I pity them, but what can I do except pray?

May Allah guide us over-emotional and hot-headed Pashtuns.
ofcourse you are denounced as traitor. anything that has to do with central authority will be rejected by the tribesmen as a threat to their way of life, to their autonomy.
The struggle here Bermal is that there are those in your tribe that would like the people to be part of a nation and would like to have central authority and there are those that reject such things and would like the status quo of autonomy. This direct challenge to the autonomous nature of the tribes is going to be very bloody, this is not the right way to go about it.

                    • that's bull**** Khushal because the Taliban themselves claim Mullah Omar as their central authority.

please stop using the "independent tribesman" scapegot. it's baloney because if the Taliban are "madrassa students" as you argued. Then that contradicts tribalism at all nevermind tribal autonomy

hes telling the pakistani authorities that if they do not care about him then he does not care about them. he is essentially blaming the pakistani authorities for his demise. That is why he is saying that he will expose the pakistani weaknesses to the taliban.
but the main thing is that it is done under duress, so we cant believe anything under duress. he will say whatever they want him to say.

no its not. the Taliban didnt rule the tribes. they left them alone. most of the things they did that you and I dont agree with ie beardlength, no school for women and other things, they did in Kabul. They respected rural afghan tribesmen because they are well aware they could not challenge them. Whats makes the taliban smarter than NATO is they are using what PAksitan was using in FATA, and that tis the slow education of the tribesmen and have them by choice integrate into the nation instead of this forced intrusion by an arrogant power that think they can do anything because they have big guns.

The reason the tribesmen respect the taliban is becasue they respect their autonomy, the reason they disrespect NATO and the afghan government is becasue they dont recognize their autonomy, NATO and the afghan governments aim is to create a modern nation and detribalize the society hence it would be easier for US hegemony to take hold in the region.

Dont you find it strange that the Afghan taliban use pakistan to stage attacks against NATO and the ttp use afghanistan kunar region to stage attacks against the PAK army. both NATO and the PAK army are infringing on pashtun tribes autonomy and both are facing violent resistance.

Unruly nature of the tribes is a direct challenge to US hegemonic ambitions.

I do not approve of the invasion, foreign presence, secularism, or the current government, but neither do I support the Taliban, a group of hypocritical uneducated "jaahil" youths that blindly follow a book of which they don't know the significance and taking orders from Shaitan himself.

The introduction of Wahabism and the materialistic Western culture/ideology to Pashtunistan is the problem, and very little else.

                            Po dranasht.
I never said you were. I am trying to explain the conflict. Wahibism has nothing to do with it. The Taliban follow deobandi Islam.
But is you look at the bloodiest times in Afghanistan and FATA, it was during the invasion by foriegn powers into these areas and the most peaceful time was when those invaders left. The invaders main purpose is to have hegemony over the population and in order to have this hegemony is to infringe on the tribes way of life. to detribalize them and have them follow the rule of law, the rule of law created by the invaders.
Why do you thing that when the invaders come, it is the tribes that resist and the city folk not only succumb but actually begs the invader to stay.
