I think, correct if I am wrong, Taylor or Gabore married a Hotel super magnate.

I agree with you that its foolish to assign binary thought processes to either of the sexes. If anything, I would venture to say that sizing up a mate is like a weighted score for the sexes with both assigning somewhat different weights to different categories of importance. This means that its unlikely average Joanna is going to simply pick the ugly duckling who is King duck and average Joe is not going to go solely for the most aesthetically or carnally endowed duck.

Yet I think anecdote, not necessarily pure evidence yet, lays the basis for how average Joe picks a potential short term mate.

One also has to take into account that although you are correct that the acquisition of wealth may mitigate status having a weighty score in the calculation for Average Joanna, the fact that females are marrying at later and later ages may instigate a quick decision making process that drops the weight of the status score in that setting (i.e. the ticking of the biological clock makes it so that the value of the ovum lessens and potential buyers diminishes and the supply versus demand ratio flips in favor of the male market).

And although anecdote is no replacement for evidence, I would say the anecdote most of us have witnessed tends to tilt the preception that the man paradigm or algorithm does put a potential bit more weight on visual initially. If the relationship progresses, the weights assigned may change...

      • barakzai hi.
you, as a medical professional would have a lot of difficulty doing your job, i would imagine, if every time you were confronted with a semi naked or naked female form, fazed off into a fit of fantasy over said form.
so you must have experienced that being educated about the body and having visual familiarity with it, allows you to not just think of it in terms of sexuality.
i as an artist have this experience also. i have been sketching naked bodies since a kid, when i was allowed to copy from anatomical books.
having lived amongst alternative people and their lack of obsessiveness about sex, contrary to popular belief, i know that men do not have to think sex if seeing a naked female.
i also do not like the use of women as sex objects. i see it as retarded and that men still have the upper hand in advertising, film making and publicity. also women finding their feet in a freer capacity are still not confident or educated enough to stand their ground aginst abuses. historically,it has not been very long for women to have the freedoms of choice and to know their own minds.
music clips for rap usually have content that i would assume is not acceptable to muslims, yet it seems to be very popular with the men on here. women shaking their booty like dogs on heat is disgusting and i feel sorry that these women and any woman who allows themselves to be used as sex objects are still stuck in such a mindspace that they are unaware of the lowliness of such behaviour and treatment.
some here assume that i approve of everything in the western society. i absolutely do not, but i believe that women in the muslim world are craving to have more freedom of expression and it will happen, it is happening.
it doesn't have to be that they become feral tarts.

I'm think it's more a stereotype than anecdote. Traditionally men might have had all the stature and could pick out women on looks. Now it's not so dogmatic. Men don't all have stature, women have a lot more than before. And I'd wager both think the same way on average when they say a good looking mate of the opposite sex (stature unimportant).

Whether such a system is better or worse is debatable from a wider point of view.

What a load of baloney. Wake up from the feminist claptrap. This is 2012. Women have it very good, better than a lot of men.

            • i wasn't expecting an intelligent response from you roadie. thanks for being so predictable.
if women are still being manipulated or choosing to behave as sex objects, then the best outcome for women has not been reached.
see, we still got to put up with dumbasses like you

maybe thats freedom of expression? unless they are actually having sex how can your perverse mind think of sex at a booty shake? its ok to paint a naked body but not to see one shake. LOL

see thats what you call freedom, standing naked and let people paint you in the name of art.

ovcourse they are being manipulated and choose to behave like a sex objects. but you people look at salsa for example and think its just a dance when its the exact same as booty shaking. Naked women on all the adverts, even from soft drinks, to chocolate to car tyres have naked women marketing them, to be a **** and show your body off is deemed as freedom of expression.

                • she's not being perverse by claiming women that allow themselves to be used as sex objects are disgusting. she's being overbearing, intrusive, and a nosey parker.

it's a bit like assuming women can only want to show off their body at ice rinks to entice you.

well manzareh, maybe i have listened to the words of some rap songs more than yourself.
your mind doesn't have the capacity to discriminate between what is sexualising and what is just nakedness or semi nudity, without being there to entice males. being naked for art is not for the purpose of turning anyone on, it is for the appreciation of the amazing human form.
there is really not much point in trying to communicate with you manzareh, as most of what you just said is what i have already referred to.

After reading about the recent success of the Afghanistan National Women's Football Team against Qatar, I was wondering:

Taking into account your religious/cultural values (or lack thereof),

                              • Do you support such national sports teams for women?
                              • Do you believe that it is not a woman's place to play sport at all?
                              • Do you think it is okay as long as certain conditions are met (they wear full clothing or that they are coached only by other women or that their matches are private...etc)?
                              • If you are a woman and you were talented at any sport, would you consider joining the national team?
                              • Would you ever allow your sisters or daughters to publically participate in such sports, and if so, under what conditions (if any)?
