separate password protected boys and girls forums

Abubaker, like Sangar said, there are separate sub-forums in most forums on the internet, usually the Islamic ones and I understand and side with the reason we should have one. When this site first started, which was very early, I know, but as a suggestion for Admin Khan to remember and consider, I placed the same thing before him. Today, if I were to ask him, his response would be the same, as would mine, and that is that we need to 'grow' as a site, before we make such decisions. I understand and agree that there are always topics that only men and women can discuss between each other, and if we were to start at the religious and cultural levels, we would have quite a long list of topics, however, we are still in the process of recognising some members, and if I may say, their motives. I don't think the idea is brought forward to advance personal conversations between either gender, as, quite obviously, there are other mediums for communication of that nature. A sub-forum, that is moderated by respective genders and controlled too, where a certain member, either male or female intends to 'join' the desired forum, the 'application' or request is considered by that particular moderator or Admin and then, based on certain criteria, they are admitted to either group. This does happen on other forums, and there are no such problems that I am aware of (of course, I understand, there could be problems, but they are always minimal).

An end note: This suggestion has been on our plates for a while now, and won't be ignored.

what you are saying doesn’t make sense. how can you say 'let them join' If the boys start joining girls' section with fake ID, then how do you plan to achieve 'da haya parda' when people joining that section will solely do it for 'be hayaee'...

The fact that a girls' section will be prohibited to guys in this forum will encourage guys even more to take extreme measures to get in that section to know what is being discussed there... have u heard of a term "curiosity"?

I am not sure what all girls here want to discuss with each other, but personally I am not ok with discussing private issues online with random girls. Actually girls have bigger issues as far as trusting other girls goes... I have seen many times that some girls have shared their personal issues online with other girls and the other girls have used it against them later.

It is a public forum and discussions/view/personal info should be limited to what one considers acceptable for public to view. Don't misguide people by giving it an impression of private forum , doesn't work especially when the members of that private forum are random online people...

for private discussions, i suggest PM, MSN(IM), or phone.

anyways, its my personal opinion, the rest is up to you guys, do what pleases you

And, if we do decide to embed such a feature on our website, then that criteria will be formulated very carefully, for instance, to be admitted, you should have a certain number of posts, or have spent a certain amount of time on the forum. These will be set by default as they are implemented. Of course, we do have ideas in mind now, but for the time being, and to avoid criticism, it is better that they are not made public. Once again, the reason behind the creation of a sub forum of such nature is not to discuss your private lives with other people. It is for other purposes such as understanding Islamic rulings pertaining to either gender, or cultural issues we are not aware of, or even general advice that either gender feels they are not able to expose in a mixed medium. In saying all of this, I am not disagreeing with you on the fact that online privacy is of grave concern to each individual here. Your personal opinion does matter to us, and it's always a pleasure to see you voicing your concerns. The question of creating such a sub forum is still a big if, so, rest assured, don't worry too much about it. My intentions are not to disappoint.

Right - only the people who are already registered and have said out loud whether they're males or females.

Enforce such rules in your life in person; don't bring them to the online world because we already have enough trouble online and don't need anymore.

And, like Feroza said, the internet isn't a place where people should be discussing private stuff anywhere. If you wanna talk to males only, PM a group of them.

It wasn't a threat. unless definition of threat has changed. I simply said this is a flawed argument and people can take advantage of it. I will be more than happy to see a sub section, my point is you can not practically stop guys from there, which nullifies the whole concept.
