also when your long dead and all that remains of you is your bones your ancestry (those precious pashtun genes that so many members here treasure) can only be traced via Mitochondrial DNA which is inherited from ones mother! So the only ancestors that can be traces are your mothers ones! the father does not pass on his mitochondrial DNA
Doctor sab people know you from your Dad side..not your mother side.
when people said to you "who's son are you" you wouldn't said your mothers name but you will said your fathers name.

      Its true
the DNA sequence is realitively minor about 7000 amino acids bases long or so (if memory frm Biochemistry and genetics days serves me right ) however mutations in this strand can result in a form of blindness anyway point is that after death to show your ancestry the only way is via your maternal line... so for those who say if your dad is one you are pashtun.... take a pashtun man and a non pashtun woman.... the kids after death when their DNA is analysed would be shown 2 be non pashtun loooooool

another outdated custom... its roots lay in showing that you were not illegitimate for if you knew your father you were not, we are in the 21st centuary.... genes are inherited from both MOTHER AND FATHER, culturally the mother has more of a role so your pashtuness would come from her, after death your decent would be traced through her....

don't worry about tracing bones or bodies etc.
all you do is go to their grave and you will know who your father or grandfather is.
plus who will spend money just to trach their family history lol, even in the 21st centuary you are known from your father.

Science maience otaso, you wouldn't see a pashtun going around saying "oh zama moor laila nom dy" or "zo da laila ziya yam".
remember the mother will adapt her husband culture and language.

My trors elder daughter who is roughly the same age as me... her husband is Yousefzai he speaks the northern Kh PUKHTU whereas we are Khattaks and speak the softer SHHH kandahri Pashto branch.... guess which type of pashto their child speaks?????? the mother has greater influence than the father
