  • What do you think?

So guys and girls this is my second thread in this forum.
And my question is what do you think about those Pashtuns who cant or speak a little Pashtu?
Do you consider him a Pashtun?
I am Kakar and I dont know since how many generations our family have been speaking Dari, I can speak Pashtu but not that well.
Recently there was this Kandahari dude who told me that if you dont speak Pashtu you are not Pashtun. ( I got it as an insult )

I think being Pashtuns isnt that much about the language its about the blood with in you.

    Thanks

its not your fault if you don't know pashto....no matter how much i try i cannot speak pashto fluently and perfectly as others...even if i do i cant get the accent 100% correct being born in london....like people tell me oh why u not perfect at your own language, i am like its not my fault...why do you guys care so much anywayz be happy if i am good person and whether i know pashto fluently might be gud but its not gonna make me a better person...

pashtun is an ethnicity....if u cant speak pashto doesnt mean u are not pashtun....like for example if you know how to speak english and not pashto, doesnt make u an english

If you are from a Pashtun tribe (as u have told ur tribe as Kakar), then you are a pashtoon, either you speak or donot speak Pashto, or whatever type of physical characteristics you have.
I respect you a lot my dear friend.
One thing, i recommend, you must try to learn this beautiful language. i.e., Pashto

It depends on who you confont.
              E.g.
some people consider anyone that speaks the language, a pashtun.
Where as others focus more on "pashtunwali"
i.e. follow the traditions and you could be from any race.

I would clasify you as pashtun, if you follow pashtunwali, and if you have pashtun blood, which you do. However you should learn pashto, but i wouldn't say it reduces your pashtunness. Ignore what others say.

You have the blood in you, it's upto you to decide.
Of course I do! what do you think of me? I got that as an insult as well lol

I am learning Pashtu and actually my pashtu isnt that bad, I can understand almost everything but I have a problem speaking it.
I guess I do, what about you? do you follow it?

Speaking the language is a major part but not speaking it doesn't mean you are not pashtun. Its just a tool of communication. for example most of us communicate in english here, doesnt make us english, similarly not speaking pashtu dont mean you are not pashtun. Having said that you should have the love for the language and try to learn it.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

If I agree with you we w'd both be wrong.

Be good, If you can't be good be lucky
