Since none of us know the exact context in which some of these photos were taken, I am going to be cautious and not make hasty conclusions. Especially since Americans were famous for paying locals in Afghanistan and Iraq to pose a certain way in front of the camera, giving them 50 bucks to do something like give a thumbs up. And yeah, some poor Afghans have become cooks or servants on American bases and for all I know the man giving the soldiers tea could be one of those paid workers. Or in other cases, locals may simply be 'hospitable' for self-protection and survival. I think Manzareh put it best when he said that some us are sitting on our hineys in comfy living arrangements, judging poor people in a war zone while they aren't sure whether they'd be the next ones bombed to rubble. If they are beghairat to you, why don't you show them what your version of ghairat is instead of carping about them as you enjoy your luxurious American life. Lastly, the world knows who Pashtuns are and who Tajiks are. No offense meant but respect is something that's earned. We are talking about the identity of each group as a whole and there are good and bad in every community of people. For example, I know upright Tajiks deserving of my respect. It's easy to point fingers at people, but a better thing to spend time on is to find a way to help rebuild the country and make these people who reside in a hell hole live better lives.

I'm sorry if I come across as harsh but I don't understand your intention or purpose behind doing this. Are you just trying to sow discord among people? I have said this before and will say it again, it's human nature to scrutinize people that are closest to 'perfection' the harshest and ignore the worst of the worst. That's why everyone is quick to bag Pashtuns without restraint. I am guessing well over a million Pashtun lives have been lost in this war. We are always the ones that suffer. We were the ones that suffered during colonial Britain's aggressions, we were the ones that suffered the heaviest casualties during the Communist invasion, and we are the ones dying and suffering now. The Pashtuns have always made the sacrifices that others took for granted.

If we will call them "beghairat" we're even bigger "baghairats" for calling our poverty struck, poor and helpless brothers and sisters back home as baghairats behind our computer screen while we are doing nothing to help them. In the end of the day everyone has their own view of the situation in Afghanistan, you'll have some Afghans who support the foreign occupation while some oppose it. It all falls on person to person. What I dislike is how we begin hating on every Afghan that is with the US, you don't know their story, or anything, what if it's propaganda, or what if they're being forced in a way, and find that translating for these army men will be the best inorder to feed their families and the list goes on. I myself am against the foreign occupation, but by no means do I hate America or the west. The west has provided both me and you, with great benefits, benefits which you can't even imagine, benefits that billons of people around the world dream of, next time try thinking outside of the box.

I've heard rumors I don't know if it's one of them Afghan myths or tales, that the mujaheddin would give the Soviet soldiers a proper burial, if this is true then this how things should work in times of war.

1.Why your ashamed of being a Pashtun or Pathan: Because you chew Naswar, dislike going to school, arguing between eachother over silly issues and beat your wife.

          2. Why your ashamed of being Afghan : The west thinks your a terrorist that blows himself up because Osama bin laden, fellow Arab fighters and other mujahideen said you'd get 72 virgins if you did so.

People that grossly go against Pashtun values are no longer considered Pashtuns and they lose their respect and integration within the community. I think that's how it is with most cultures, not just us.

Or You missunderstood me or its me missunderstanding You, or we have simply different views.
My question was can "being Pashtun", with the values connected to it, with national mentality that formed Pashtun ethnos be changed by people changing and not following the basis of their nations philosophy?
                        If yes then how?
If no, than there is no way to be ashamed, because people distancing fom these values would loose also their national identity, as national identity isn't simply a word, by which the nation is named.

Tjanaparh, When your in the gym and a motivational tune comes on YEAH that feeling is 'Pashtun' or like when James Bond jumps from a building the intense feeling he is experiencing is called 'Pashtun' basically Pashtun is a state of mind.

the mashar saluting and the other offering chai - these loyan may have personal history with the soldiers, sure looks despicably beghairat but who knows?

in a country which has suffered a long war-game where the good guys gone bad, bad guys doing a few abstract good deeds, pious ones butchering, entrusted ones raping, others making lots of money, mix it all together over few decades of misery and you get such absurd incidents as pictured, very likely unrepresentative of pashtun.

Sure there are plenty beghairat people out there dressed in clean clothes, smelling very nice, doing their hajj, selling our country and making vast amount of money, and they are powerful, I keep away from them, i see them often, but i am certain allah(ج) makes them suffer in ways we dont see.

the pashtuns arent what the pashtuns used to be, i highely doubt the millions of pashtuns actualy even follow pashtunwali or the 1s living in west even understand it, every generation that comes is losing thier background and culture as the western culture engulfs them, mere survival instincts i believe

a man does what he has to to protect him and his family, in the past honour played a big role but these days i see it in decline...

the ordinary man in afghanistan is not aware of what is happening in the background and those on front line don't put their lives at stake for a ****ty cause. neither of them know that they are being used.
you don't have a problem with living by their luxuries in the west and enjoying their lifestyle but you are questioning an old man handing out a cup of tea to one of them in afghanistan??
i am not ashamed of them, i am ashamed of you.
