    I am wondering how are we going to achieve our 'ideals' if we are still unsure about our 'identity'.Tsk,tsk!

          My first preference goes to my aboriginal name ,Pakhtun/Pashtun. I don't mind to be called an Afghan. But if Tajiks, Uzbeks Aimaqs, Turks, and Nooristanis are also bracketed in the appellation of " Afghan",then I would not like to be called an Afghan. I'm living on the Eastern Side of the Durand Line, broken away by the infamous Durand Accord and now the Afghan Constitution ( Asasi Qanoon ) does not hold me an "Afghan", but it can not rob me of my ethnicity of being "Pakhtun/Pashtun", then why shouldn't I prefer to be called as a "Pakhtun/Pashtun"?.No constitution on the Earth and no geographical lines on the map can snatch away my etymological recognition of being a "PAKHTUN".

            Pukhtoon on the other hand represents someone who can speak the language, which can also be anyone, even an American who has recently learned to speak it.

            Therefore, use only Afghan for all Pakistani, Afghanistani and around the world real/true Pukhtuns.

            Grana Khushal Khana! I disagree with your contention. I had put on an article on Khyberwatch under my Netname , "Sakhi Arsala Khan". The topic was ," Pakhtun, Afghan and Pathan". I lead you to the article for amicable clarification through the following link;

              The Afghanistan constitution has not barred from such a name. That is like saying because a chechen or tatar is a russian citizen therefore a russian in ukraine can't call themselves Russians anymore. I am sorry that is a little weak logic. Afghan is just as aboriginal as Pashtun, in fact both of their roots are unknown just that they have been historically known as both. Lolzz when within Pakistan identity and domicile they hold you Afghan how did Afghanistan bar you?

                        Yes there are Pashtuns like that unfortunately on both sides. Afghanistan khalk pa peshawar kae khaista tujarathoona ham shuruu karree wo. And if wasn't for jumaithe munafiq for cheer leading Americans to arm the mujahideen then they wouldn't have to leave. However I don't expect much from Jumaithiyaan, even donkeys make more sense and are of more political use. (no offense to your friend Yousafzai wrora).

                          I didn't vote, because whilst my heart says of course we are one, reality tells me that on the city streets we are not.

                          Somewhere, deep in the villages, away from the influences of urban politics, there was a time when it didn't matter which side of the Durand Line someone was on. The daily life of ordinary men and women was indistinguishable.

                          But then time has changed. Yes, yes Pashtoons in the east were sold out after 1893, but that was the action of one person. How could the elite in Pashtoonkhwa who saw what happened become clients of British India and later Pakistan? They have watched their language and culture become diluted, their people humiliated, held back and led to ruin. They have profiteered on this and feel that progress is only possible through that process of dilution.

                          Pashtoon leadership in Pakistan has done little to resist, to fully take control of their own politcs, to forge their own electronic media and stand on their own feet. Pashtoons appear to exist because the Panjab allows them to exist - this is undignified and shameful.

                          A good example is Swat which became a part of Pakistan much later in Pakistan's history and look what happened there - last year it was brought to its knees and today is riddled with state spies. Just try speaking your mind.

                          Pashtoons in Pakistan didn't become "domesticated" so easily, I accept, but they appear to have lost the will. We need a strong Afghanistan for Pashtoons to be one but before Afghanistan can be strong, we need Pashtoons - wherever they are - to make it so.

                            ^ Rational and perceptive as always, tor khan! I couldn't agree more with you.
                            "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

                            "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".
