u guys are all confusing this questions about siblings with a question specifically about sisters.
Feroza, our discussion was not aimed at Angaar. As you can see, the discussion involved other members, quoting each other. The question was not confused either. It was a separate discussion that stemmed from this topic, and was misunderstood or miscommunicated by some members, thus the continuous posts.

I hope this is not misunderstood. =)

            ^thank you for clarifying...

but actually i wasn't implying to say that the discussion was aimed at him.. i was just pointing out the difference between how two questions can be interpreted using his example lol... i think i was misunderstood haha... :P

if a guy asks me 'How is your sister or how many do you have'.

I will feel deeply disrespected, it's just not right.

That is like me asking Sheenkay. Out of the blue 'How is your mom?'.

                      it's against Pashtun norms.

In Kandahar even if someone coughs purposely it's considered disrespectful. We are know to have high standards for morality. We respect our woman and honor them a lot.

it's not that we don't recognize them. We just don't want them in everyones mouth.

Agreed. Yet, Angaar Khan didn't ask anyone specifically how many sisters they have; if the guys feel uncomfortable, they can just say "I have x siblings."

Call us backward or retarded but we dont share info of female members of our family with persons not related to us by blood.

If some one asks, it feels offensive to us. You can say it is a norm of pashtun society.
about the norms of a pashtun society...
sisters are not pimples that you hide their existence... had some random na mahram guy one asked you their age.. names hobbies or interests, you could said you are offended and you would have every right as a brother or family member to be protective..
but to say "i am not going to tell any one if i do or do not have a sister because it's a pashtun's way of things"... i am sorry...

you are just being paranoid and absurd..
                            b
it's not a pashtun's way of things because there are those of us who don't follow such demented narrow mindedness and no way in hell would we allow any one to slap us in the face with such illogical claims of pashtunwali and exclude us our title as pashtuns.

                            • The benefit of being the only child

“How did school go today? a mother asked her little boy. “Fine”, the little fellow replied. “We had a new teacher and she wanted to know if I had any brothers and I told her I was an only child”. What did he say?” his mother asked. “ The said, “Thank goodness”.

Other than that not many perks, you get blamed for everything that goes wrong in the house

i will disown my brothers if they ever denied my existence under whatever condition.
