Come on Brother, it was a simple question and very simple answers were give. But you gone too serious. We did not know you would be too serious.Originally posted by Alchemist View PostI sincerely appreciate all your inputs towards my query.
Except for emkhan I believe everyone here has in some way hinted at what the good life is.
Playing the cynic is easy...There is no doubt that we are all tied to others. We have families, loved ones, for whom we want what we want for our selves. This is the simplest axiom of the ethical life - to want for your brother what you want for your self.
The good life, in my opinion, is finding a worthy cause, a good cause and fighting for it despite the odds, despite it's unpopularity, despite the discomforts. Standing up and fighting for a cause that means more than one's life and then dying for it.
We might imagine the good death to be an easy one. Laying in comfort in our bed, with all our loved ones surrounding us, at the end of a long and prosperous century, sighing the last of our breath. In reality, more often than naught, it comes with less dignity as we chock on a fish bone at a restaurant, or drop off from the toilet seat or in the back of an ambulance surrounded by strangers.
The good death is the chosen death that happens in the glory of the battle field of your choosing. Falling for what you believe in. Those who willingly opposed a form of tyranny, or refused to yield to an unethical and inhuman order given to them at the tip of the gun. Maybe that of Sayed Jamulludin who spent his whole life working towards the revival of the ummah. At the end of his life being dragged by the chains around his throat by some unknown guard of some forgotten regime's leader. Or the death of Sayed Qutb who could have easily lived a life of ease and comfort but chose to speak against the dictator...who hung him in the end. The same happened to even the revered Abu hanifa. Their deaths were a statement of their life. What socrates famous was the way he staked his life on his beliefs.
Dying for what you believe, doing what you believe to be your calling in life, that is the good life and the good death.
I am not saying everyone should become a great scholar or a warrior and take up pen or kalshnikov to change the world. The first of those we want to stand up for is our selves, then our families, then our loved ones, and the rest of humanity.
There is purpose in everyone's life, and it goes beyound the psycho dramas of daily life. A mundane life is not worth living at all. At least I don't believe so. I hope to live the good life.
You are young and able, find a way to work towards becoming a force for good...do something for your kinsmen, pashtoons across the boarders. Afghanistan it self. Most afghan youths are caught up in the rat maze of the west. I fear I am caught in it too. I pity myself and them. If you are young set your goals higher. We all know what the good is.
My humble melancholy rant :]
Anyways you talked about Syed Qutab yeah I have read a little about him.
Do you have some info about him in details. I admire this great man.
