I was picking pizza up one time and the man randomly asked me "Are you from Europe?" I said "erm, no...I'm Afghan!"

One American white lady asked if I was Italian. She was like, you look it but you don't talk like one so I'm confused. I have gotten Armenian a few times. At my university orientation a long time ago, the student director asked if I was Russian. A Palestinian asked me in Arabic if I was Arab.

I have even gotten Indian from some people. But Indians themselves call me a "white girl" to tease me because I often express my contempt for them. Lol, oh yeah... a funny thing is one time a white supremacist type person asked me where I was from. I was signing a receipt for a return and he saw my name. I was like "India!" And then he was like, "really, which part in India? I said the North. Haha. Another time an Afghan shopowner asked me where I was from and I said "Pakistan." He was like, "Are you sure? Because you look Afghan to me." I got embarassed and said that that's maybe because I'm from Peshawar. And then he started speaking in Pashto. I nearly started imitating a Pekhawri accent but I was afraid I'll laugh. :D

I'm not ashamed khor but sometimes privacy is important. It depends on the person. If I think Afghan will catch a stigma with them, I don't tell them. Or if they are Afghan and I don't want them to ask too many q's after finding out I am as well, I prefer not to tell the truth.

But now I know fibbing is haram, so I've stopped.
