The wooden ruler over the knuckles is a staple of the catholic schools in Pakistan. I got many of those, including having to squat like a chicken in the corner of the classroom. Got taken out of the school by my dad because a children's story had a dog named Tipu. He got furious at the 'father'.
not really but that was probably because i was a girl and by the time i got to the age of pulling pranks on others, i was out of there....?
our qaari sahebs were very fair which i assume has to d with the fact that he actually had a life outside the madrasa...i did see him beat up two guys one time though. he had heard them mention each other's sisters and mothers during an argument. he tied their hands and feet and beat the life out of them. you could hear them from far away. i was so scared that i went home that day and never went to the madrassa again..which was fine because my father started teaching us at home from then on anyways.
i used to get beaten up by my math teacher a lot but i will save that story for some other time.
